CHUB RUB IS A FAT-POSITIVE, FEMME & NON BINARY BAND
Tumblr media
Chub Rub is a Philadelphian band who just released their debut EP, Make Some Fucking Space, containing powerful feminist folk ballads such as “50 Ways to Kill Your R*pist” and “Shrink,” which boasts the titular lyric: “If you think I don’t fit in, well/Make some fucking space.” FUCK YES!!! I can’t tell you how excited I am about this group and what they’re doing for fat representation and liberation in music, specifically for the Philly community! 💗
Tumblr media
“This is what makes Chub Rub feel so victoriously ground-breaking: that they’re four femme people demanding “fats to the front!” at their shows, performing alongside other explicitly body-positive acts like Thunder Thighs. By encouraging support and community among fat femmes, the four-piece addresses an aspect of accessibility and inclusivity in the DIY scene that is often ignored.”
—Amanda Silberling, for Audiofemme.com

Eating disorder treatment protocols have improved significantly in recent years, but there’s still a LOT of bad, non evidence based, diet-culture influenced “treatment” out there. Gwyneth Olwyn aptly called it the “recover but not too much” phenomenon. These clinicians have the same fears as their clients’ eating disorders—of food, of weight gain, of rest, of Too Much.
If this is what you’ve experienced, and your recovery goals seem always out of reach, or you can’t see a way out of your ED, or you’re perpetually relapsing… it isn’t your fault! This is the environment working against you, an environment that you should be able to trust. I’m not sure what advice is universal enough to give to an audience of thousands of eating disordered ppl people on this, but I will say: trust your recovery gut. If it feels like it’s still disordered, or limiting your ability to meet your body’s prodigious needs for food and rest in recovery, find better guides to support you in doing the work. They exist!

Fatblr block list
Unfortunately there are so many fat blogs that are just straight up racist or racist apologists, as well as other gross things
worth-beyond-a-number-scale/Hannah (callout here)
fatphobiabusters (has Hannah as a mod and blocked anyone who brought up her racism, evidence here)
fatandlikeitlikethat (blocked me for linking them to Hannah’s callout, even though she was asking for sources)
fine-ass-fatshion (continues to interact with Hannah)
starlighthh (continued to and still does interact with hannah even while in my discord server where Hannah’s action were detailed)
squirreltastic (mod squirrel on fatphobiabusters)
happyfat (another one of squirrel’s blogs)
please send me any more fat blogs that are racist, especially if they are complicit in Hannah’s continued actions against people of color. of course, other problematic fat blogs will be added here but there is clearly a huge racism issue in the fat community here

One of the reason why you're not welcome in fat positive/neutral places even though you "feel fat" is because, to you, "feeling fat" is a bad feeling. I hear people say "I feel fat" but what they mean is "i feel gross/bloated/unattractive".
Stop saying that. That shit's not as cute or relatable as you think it is.

“For 60 years, doctors and researchers have known two things that could have improved, or even saved, millions of lives. The first is that diets do not work. … The second big lesson the medical establishment has learned and rejected over and over again is that weight and health are not perfect synonyms.“
“Studies have found that anywhere from one-third to three-quarters of people classified as obese are metabolically healthy. … Meanwhile, about a quarter of non-overweight people are what epidemiologists call “the lean unhealthy.” … Habits, no matter your size, are what really matter.“
“Doctors are supposed to be trusted authorities, a patient’s primary gateway to healing. But for fat people, they are a source of unique and persistent trauma.“
“According to several studies, thin doctors are more confident in their recommendations, expect their patients to lose more weight and are more likely to think dieting is easy.”
“Then there are the glaring cultural differences. … wealthy, skinny doctors will often try to bond with their low-income patients by telling them, “I know what it’s like not to have time to cook.” Their patients, who might be single mothers with three kids and two jobs, immediately think “No, you don’t,”“
““She didn’t even ask me what I was already doing for exercise,” he says. “At the time, I was training for serious winter mountaineering trips, hiking every weekend and going to the gym four times a week. Instead of a conversation, I got a sound bite. It felt like shaming me was the entire purpose.”“

gaining weight is good and being fat is good and nourishing your body is good and resting is good. fat bodies and disabled bodies and queer bodies and all marginalized bodies are good and deserve to be celebrated. your body does not have to be relegated to the sphere of neutrality or tolerance or acceptance. the world is *better* because your body is in it. the world is better because you are in it.

hey fat girls, especially fat wlw…its okay to like…have standards. you dont have to just “settle” for whoever finds you attractive. you deserve to be picky when it comes to your love/sex life. you dont have to be “grateful” for every crusty person who finds you fuckable.
this goes doubly for trans girls and excludes terfs/transphobes.

Fatness and beauty are not mutually exclusive. Fatness and perfection are not mutually exclusive. I can be both at the same time. Trying to erase my fatness to call me ‘perfect’ is not a compliment, it’s a fatphobic backhand that expects some sort of timid milquetoast groveling in return. Which is something I point blank refuse to do. Fuck off.
