You were miserable, no scratch that, miserable was the flu; this was twenty times worse than that. Every part of your body ached, the smell of meat made you want to vomit, and your feet were so swollen that all you could fit into was slippers. It was enough to drive any person to madness, but on this particular afternoon, you were past your breaking point. Hot tears rolled down your cheeks as you stared at your last piece of pie on the floor, it was silly to be so upset, but you couldn't help it. That piece of pie was something you had looked forward to all day, it was the only reason you made it through your entire workday, and now it was splattered on the kitchen floor. 

You tried your hardest not to cry, but it was coming. Pregnancy hormones were no joke, and this had been building up. Then, as a small sob escaped your lips, you heard the sound of your husband, Rio, coming inside. You did your best to wipe away the tears, but then you saw your pie on the floor, and you started crying all over again. 

Rio didn't even bother to take off his shoes. Instead, he came running to the kitchen the moment he heard you crying. 

"Why are we crying?"  

You smiled faintly. ‘We’ everything was ‘we’ for Rio. "We're pregnant." or "We're getting an ultrasound." We. We. We. He was endlessly supportive, and it shouldn't have made you cry harder, but it did. 

His hands were around you in a tight hug, and he swayed you in his arms. He didn't pressure you to tell him what was wrong. He had learned early on that you would as soon as you got the tears to stop. 

"I dropped my pie." 

Rio froze with his arms still around you, and then he started to laugh. 

"Your pie?" He asked, not entirely sure if he understood correctly. 

You nodded and pointed the lost treasure on the floor. Rio covered his smile with his hand and tried his best not to laugh again. 

"Aw, mama, it's okay." 

He kissed your forehead and then your round belly before giving you another big embrace. Rio held you tightly in his arms, 

"Do you want more pie?" 

 You nodded your head against his chest. The tears turned to sniffles as he consoled you. Rio kissed the top of your head, "Okay, mama, we'll get us more pie." He muttered reassuringly as he rubbed your back. 

You smiled again at his choice of words. Us and we, the two best things to be.
