Well, poop. I screwed that up.
I dropped the ball on five minutes a day yesterday. I had a serious case of “I don’t want to.” It’s not that I don’t like the book (I do) or that I don’t want to prove it can be done (Already done, it CAN be.) It was a case of “I had to make something stressful give yesterday, and I picked five minutes a day as the item that didn’t get done on my list.” (Along with five minutes a day, I failed to…

The Five Minute a Day Project: Day 10 Update
Ten days have come and gone since I decided I would write a project using only five minutes a day (with a few extra seconds tacked on to finish a sentence or paragraph.)
I won’t lie. I hate this method. I hate this method so hard I want to stab it in the face with a rusty spork that’s helpfully been laced with as much tetanus bacteria or whatsit as I can find. And some polio. And the bubonic…

On the Nature of Excuses: The Five Minute a Day Project
The most common excuse I have ever heard for not writing–or finishing–a novel is the lack of time. I almost always reply with: “If you spend five minutes a day on the book, it will get done!”
This usually transforms into a long list of reasons why the person I’m talking to can’t make five minutes a day to work on their book.
We’re all busy, I get that, but it ispossible to free up five minutes a…

In the Royal States of America, magic rules all, but life—and love—always finds a way.
Born without magic, Mackenzie Little has few prospects. In a futile attempt to break her out of the null caste, her mother ropes her into participating in a charity auction, where anything can be bought with enough money.
She never expected her ex-boss, Dylan Mason, an elite with a love of driving her crazy,…

Newsletter Short Stories: Kalen #1 (Gifts Fit for a Queen)
Protected: Newsletter Short Stories: Kalen #1 (Gifts Fit for a Queen)
Before he became the Rift King, a 14 year old Kalen learns a very important lesson on the nature of favors within the Rift…
“‘Go fetch gifts for my Queens,’ he said. ‘Even a simpleton could do it,’ he said. ‘Any Rifter could do it in a month,’ he said,” Kalen muttered, staring up at his trapped foot. Blood rushed down to his head, making his ears throb in time with his heart. Glaring didn’t free…

Pronoun is Closing its Doors (And yes, that screws Huntress.)
Pronoun is Closing its Doors (And yes, that screws Huntress.)
Well, some things are just not meant to be, I suppose. Due to the closure of Pronoun (the publisher for Huntress,) it is unlikely I’ll be able to attempt the bestseller run as intended–unless Amazon can save the day.
Which I doubt.
I have emailed Amazon to inquire if my book can be merged to my account with preorders preserved. I doubt it. In good news, I won’t be penalized by Amazon, but in bad…

The Ups, Downs, and Arounds of Working with a Cover Designer
Over the course of my career, I’ve worked with several designers. I started with Chris Howard, who did the artwork for The Eye of God, Royal Slaves (TBD,) Inquisitor, Winter Wolf, The City of Clocks (TBD,) Storm Without End, Storm Surge, and The Tides of War (TBD.) Working with someone who does custom artwork, such as Chris Howard does, is a much different process than hiring a designer to…

I need your help: an announcement regarding my June bestseller run.
I need your help: an announcement regarding my June bestseller run.
Royals saved the United States when magic tore the union apart. Under the rule of sixteen monarchies, America has risen from its own ashes and returned to its place as a global power.
In the Royal States of America, magic rules all, but life–and love–always finds a way.
I will write the official description of the novel this week, but Huntress tells the tale of Prince Kevlin, the youngest son…

Hoofin' It has released!
Hoofin’ It has released!
All Shane wanted was to get away from the wreckage of his career for a while. He picked New York City to provide him with a distraction from his early, unwanted retirement from the police force.
New York City delivered, distracting him with three corpses and a miniature llama with a spitting problem and an attitude. If he wants to return to a normal life, he’ll have to face off against a sex…

A Stormy Day
Every year, July and August were a living hell for many in Las Vegas. Monsoons popped up with little warning, and a three foot wall of water could—and did—sweep away everything in its path. The pressure of the building storm wrapped around me and squeezed.
When the rain came, the heavens would open, and I needed to be outside. The rain called to me, and if I didn’t escape the…

Playing with Fire *and* Water Viper won bronze medals in the 2017 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards in the Urban Fantasy Category!
I never thought I’d see the day where I made an announcement informing people I had tied with myself in a book award, but here I am. Playing with Fire and Water Viper are the bronze medal winners of the 2017 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards! I don’t know about you, but I’m laughing quite a bit over here. I keep thinking about the judges and how they were grading the winners, and then they come up to…

My novels are now available at most merchants!
My novels are now available at most merchants!
I recently wrote about why I was pulling out the Kindle Unlimited program. At the recommendation of a colleague, I emailed Amazon and requested to be removed from the program, and they granted my request. As a result… my books are now all available wide.
One thing some of you may have noticed is that the original Tales of the Winter Wolf stories are no longer available for sale. I’ve combined…

Our New Adventure in America Delays Hoofin' It.
Our New Adventure in America Delays Hoofin’ It.
As those of you who are following me on facebook already know, I recently moved to the United States. Right now, we’re calling Sunnyvale, California our home, although in a few weeks, we will be moving again! As such, Hoofin’ It will be a few days late. Some of you were already aware this was a likelihood, but I’m confirming it now. I’m not sure the exact new date, but it shouldn’t be in too…

I'm withdrawing from KU. Here's why.
I’m withdrawing from KU. Here’s why.
For most of my career, I’ve been a loyal KU author, sticking through it despite the changes that Amazon made. Some of the changes I liked. For example, I’m a fond fan of the pages read system–with a caveat.
It’s broken, and because it’s broken, I’m leaving KU.
It’s not broken in the technical sense, although it’s a technical issue that has ultimately broken the system. No, it’s broken because of…

Protected: Newsletter Short Stories: Pedro #1
This short story is exclusive to newsletter subscribers. Thanks for your ongoing support. I hope you enjoy the story!
Pedro only makes one appearances in the Witch & Wolf stories, but he became a fan favorite. I enjoyed returning to this character and giving him a little space to call his own!
Underneath the nose-singeing stench of my goddaughter’s perfume, I detected the scent of a wolf, and…
