Riddhi Damodar: Emerging Designer of the Year

COMPETITION was tough at Day 2 of the MHCC Fiji Fashion Week with so many high quality emerging designers. New comer businesss woman Riddhi Damodar took out top honours with her ‘Blossoms” collection which was inspired by her daughter Dimani, after whom the fashion house Dimani House of Fashion is named.

An emotional Riddhi told the crowd that the win said she was prepared to win.

“I guess I did come prepared. Every little detail matters and I was really focused to present something which was international standards,” Mrs Damodar said. “I’m really happy and overwhelmed.  This is a really big achievement for me.”

Riddhi is the wife  of local cinema boss, Div Damodar. She said that background gave her the competitive edge needed.

“I think it was the overall presentation they liked because I paid a lot of attention to the details from the fabric itself to the end product,” she adds.

“First I would like to thank my family because they have been very supportive, my House of DIMANI team and crew and my sponsors.”

Showcasing her collection, which not only evoked glamour but also elegance and haute couture, Riddhi Damodar left the audience astonished from the first garment to the last piece.

For a first timer, Mrs. Damodar said that she did come prepared and ready for a challenge. “The small details really did matter and I was really focused to present something that is international standards”.

“The Judges were very detailed and were very strict in scrutinizing garments” says Mrs. Damodar. “I have a business background and I explained the commercial part of my garments which was a bonus on my end”.

Introduction

Hello all the fabulous fashion lovers.. I am riddhi Damodar. I am the founder of Dimani house of Fashion that is also the home for my label “riddhi Damodar”. Before I became a fashion designer I come from a business background. Being the head of operations and marketing for past 2 years in the Damodar group of companies I juggled several sides and leaned a lot about the business in Fiji. Originally from India I have been playing with fabric and colors since I was a child. My father closely involved into big textile industry I got to visit huge factories that manufactured thousands of meters of material for sarees and other garments. I was able to see the entire process and it all felt magical. I came into Fiji 5 years ago and I entered the local Fiji fashion scene. I love dressing up and my own personal styling made me fiji’s best dressed people last year. I absolutely love anything and everything with fashion. I love Local designs with high end labels. My favourites are Gucci, Prada and Louise Vuitton. I decided to finally start my own fashion label Last year and I created my first collection inspired by one of the biggest trends of Spring/summer 13/14 “Stripes”. As much as I love classic stripes I decided to give a trible twist. The collection is a evening/ formal collection. My second collection is “Blossom” which is inspired by the beauty of nature and some very special moments I had last year while I was expecting my first child. My daughter “Dimani” is the true inspiration behind all this. We entered Fiji fashion week 2013 in emerging designer category with blossom and got the title of “Emerging designer of the year 2013”. This blog is all about my personal style, inspiration and my creations. Be part of my journey.. It’s just getting started.. Xx RD
