Another piece painted in September in Grand Marais MN. I was set up on the opposite side of the highway from the airstream. I had to start late, at that time of year it's light past 9pm and I really wanted the only illumination to be the street light. About an hour into the painting a wolf trotted by me, it was terrifying and magic. This will be in the Outdoor Painters of Minnesota show opening Saturday night at FrameWorks Gallery in St. Paul.

Charcoal Drawings

I've had a couple of novice students in my classes at the Edina Art Center recently and I started them out in charcoal. We set up a still life and I'd have them draw it in one 3 hour class. It's a great way to understand the importance of relative values. I started drawing along with them between critiques and had a lot of fun. I thought I'd share the drawings before they get all smudged and creased at the bottom of some pile in my studio.
