Finally finished a little side-project for Artie;

Had a damaged grill from when i crashed, so i fixed it and painted it! I am actually rather happy with how it turned out. Got the install done on my birthday too!

Some progress on the Maple Leaf!

I had already bought this diff out of an f350 a while ago for this project, and the rims it came with were an awkward size (16.5) so ive had to buy new wheels.

One of the 4 it came with was actually a 16 inch.

Ive managed to pick up a set of 6 16 inch rims for $850, 3 with new tyres, and my family were able to pick em up for me while they were in Sydney. My grandpa has most of em at his place, since dad could only fit 2 in the boot of his commodore.

So now I pretty much just need some springs, then I can set up the rear suspension!

1976 Chrysler LA Lancer

So, my 76 Lancer, Artie, is my daily driver. He's my first car, and he's been rather reliable too!

Now, you may have noticed that i have a fair few lancers. This is because they were my dad's favourite car hes owned. He had a 2-door when he was younger, and he ended up giving it to my uncle as his first car. In 2017, my uncle found a 2-door for sale in South Australia, and he bought it for me as my first car. It isn't complete at the moment, because we want to rebuild it properly, not quickly, so its on the backburner at the moment. So the three of us drove from the Central Coast in New South Wales to go get it. That sorta kicked us off into buying lancers again. Theyre not very common, but not very sought after, so theyre usually a decent price when the do come up.

Artie was the 3rd we bought, and only cost $350. We initially agreed to pay $300, but all the parts were in pretty damn good condition, so we felt kinda bad. When we got him, he was part way through a rebuild. He had been in a front & rear-ender in about '97, 15 years after being built, so the previous owner had begun the rebuild. They pretty much got the point of reassembly, having done most body repairs. Dad and I rebuilt the stock Saturn 1400 (a 1.4 litre Mitsubishi motor) and swapped the front suspension with the blue 4-door we had, since dad had put in new parts in it after using it as a daily driver for a time. We did all the work ourselves, including paint, which was done by me & my grandpa (also a hot rodder) in his backyard spraybooth. The paint isnt perfect, but for my first car, its good enough.

Ill make a follow up post in a bit about Artie's life since returning to the road, so I'll leave it here for now.

My 1936 Chevrolet Maple Leaf

This truck, which i bought for $3,500 about 4 years ago as of 2023, is going to be my first Hot Rod. Its currently in bits at the moment, as Im working on the new suspension. It used to have the stock 7:1 ratio monster of a diff, but I'll be putting one out of a a late 70s Ford F-350 under it, because i want duallys and to be able to fit my lancer in the back. For the front suspension, Ive used that out of a 70s Jaguar XJ6, which i have already begun mounting. Ive welded on the front mounts, but have to sort out the rear suspension before welding in the rear front mounts, for alignment purposes.

For an engine, instead of the old blueflame 6 (which didnt even have a pressurised oil system!) Ive got a 331 Hemi to go in.
