4 years ago.... something amazing happened. I had a really great meal of fish & chips after going for a walk with my roommates. Then I went home and opened my shitty Alienware laptop that didn't work unless it was plugged in and launched gmod and eventually HLVRAI was made..

I've never actually played Half-Life 1.. and I found this Playstation 2 copy of the game years ago. So I figured for the 4 year anniversay of HLVRAI I would check out HALF-LIFE 1 ON PS2. The box says it has UNPARALLELED AI (lol) and EXTRAORDINARY REALISM. I think also from what I've heard this version is kinda weird and different (like me LOL 🤪 ahaaaa)

hey i dont want this to come across as a personal attack or anything bc i dont doubt your intentions are good but i would pick a different animal for your b.aaulp furry design 😭 theres a pretty storied history of racist comparisons between asian people and rats unfortunately

i can understand your intent with this but I dont think that its necessary for me to change the whole species for that alone when he hardly looks like a rat to begin with, much less a racist cariacature. I picked the animal out of a list of ideas because of how he acts on stream (i see him as a rodent-like individual if you will), his wise and aloof demeanor, and because it just so happens to also be an animal on the chinese zodiac.

Overall, I picked the rat for wholeheartedly positive reasons! And because I like rats.

i think personally, it would feel more racist if I were to restrict certain ethnicities from being drawn as certain animals when the intent of that portrayal is wholeheartedly innocent (furries), and the animals are real. It would be wrong to portray another ethnicity as a "demon, goblin, witch" or otherwise exagerrated, demented creature. And it WOULD be very wrong of me to portray an Asian man as a grossly negative cariacature of a rat, with long noses and thin eyes and nasty claws and teeth, which should rightfully be called out if people were to draw someone like that.

I hope my reply doesn't come across as argumentative. I certainly learned something and would gladly keep it in mind so as to not make the mistake of exaggerating the final design too much (I could see myself making this mistake had I decided to draw Ratbaaulp differently in the planning stages), but I have good reasons for the species choice. I'm always eager if anyone wants to give me tips on how to avoid accidentally creating a racist cariacature in my designs.
