After the 5th trial, the survivors give Makoto the we need you speech. And he just snaps at them.
Because he's tired.
He doesn't want to be strong, he doesn't want to be needed. Why does everything have to rest on him all the time?
He's cold, he doesn't remember his last meal. And for once he wants to be the held and not the holder.
Why do they get the luxury of breaking down when he's not allowed?
If his survival wasn't important than why is everyone looking at him to lead them?
If his talent is so useless and he's such an annoyance, why listen to him now?
What was killing me the first time not good enough for you? Is this the price for living?
Because if so let me go back underground.

"Makoto wasn't affected by his execution attempt."
Makoto: seeing his friends again Everyone was here. All my friends who had struggled together, and survived. As soon as I saw them, I couldn't help myself.
I started to tear up.
Everyone: bring up how Makoto stinks from being stuck in the rubbish pit.
Makoto: And in a flash my tears dried up.

The switch up from everyone seeing Makoto as disposable and that he has nothing but naive optimism. To Makoto being seen as irreplaceable and the only reason we're all alive.
Like the same way everyone treated Junko, they do the same to Makoto.
The only real difference is Junko wanted this while all Makoto wants is for his friends to survive.

Makoto may not be a morning person, far from it but it didn't stop him from dragging everyone out of bed to have breakfast.
It didn't matter how busy they were, everyone would be summoned downstairs for every meal.
And well, no one was about to argue with Makoto. Don't let the cheery attitude fool you, he was a force to be reckoned with.
The survivors and the rest of the 77th class learned this very well.
Makoto could be heading to a future foundation meeting and still have coffee and tea made for everyone.
How, no one knew. Sometimes they'd joke Makoto had Chisa's talent instead of Luck and he'd go all red in the face.
"Why do you do all of this?" Asked Hajime once, he'd offered to help Makoto with the dishes along with Asahina, Fuyuhiko, Peko and Teruteru.
"I dunno, I just like seeing everyone together." Said Makoto, a small smile on his face.
"We all get caught up in our busy lives, that it's nice to step back sometimes. And, well I think food tastes better when you eat it with the people you care about."
Hajime smiled "I think you're right about that."

Makoto watching everyone's stances on him change overnight. He was once the disposable optimist, now he was the one they couldn't live without.
... Wasn't there another student they said that about?
Was he destined to join her when all was said and done?

FF. Makoto Remembering His Friends:
Makoto dies a little inside whenever anyone shows up late to a breakfast meeting (or any meeting at all). He remembers how Kiyotaka was firm about punctuality and begins to understand him better.
When Makoto passes by a dead cherry blossom tree or a rundown dojo while out on a mission, he remembers Sakura and how she had sacrificed her life for her loved ones.
When Makoto notices people reading comic books, finding solace during troubling times, he remembers Hifumi, who had dreamt of making something original that could connect with so many hearts.
Makoto has enforced a rule of 'not going out during nighttime' amongst his friends for safety, honouring Celeste.
And there's never a moment Makoto doesn't hold Chihiro in memory, considering how he frequently works with Alter Ego and the Neo World Program.
Anytime Makoto correctly figures out what's going on in your mind and you question him, he says "I'm psychic," before smiling mischievously and continuing, "Kidding . . . I just have pretty good intuition." Like Sayaka.
Anytime Makoto wants to console you or assure you of something, he may sometimes declare "It's a man's promise!" Like Mondo. And whenever he passess by demolished houses and buildings, he remembers how Mondo wanted to become a carpenter.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Move past their deaths? That's... I could never do that."
"No... I'm going to carry them with me the rest of my life. How could I possibly "move past" something like that? Leon...Sayaka... I'll carry them with me forever. I'll carry their memories with me wherever I go!"
- Makoto Naegi, in the aftermath of Trial 1.

Makoto watching everyone gain hope, be happy and move on with their lives.... While Makoto falls further and further into despair.
He gave them all the stars in the sky and left himself in darkness. He's till in the trial room falling apart as his friends fall.
While they're all standing and shining in the light.

Komaru meeting the Remnants though....
Makoto: Oh and this is my little sister, Komaru Naegi.
Ibuki: Hey lil Naegi, I'm Ibu-
Komaru: Yeah I know who you are. You're the ones who kidnapped me from my home, killed my parents. Locked me in a house for a year and forced me to watch my brother play a death game.
Remnants:...
Komaru: But no, yeah... Nice to meet you.

Watching Danganronpa 3 like... Man the pressure Makoto must've been in during his time at Hopes Peak.
He got in through a lottery, I highly doubt he thought he was gonna get that far. So most people think he got in by a fluke.
His talent is Luck which a lot of people consider to not even be a real talent.
When it is.
And it's such a a hard talent to showcase and work on. Because unlike Nagito's, Makoto's luck is wild and unpredictable.
Junko herself can't figure out Makoto's talent, and she's the Ultimate Analyst.
Makoto must've spent so long trying to figure that shit out and use it in a way that seemed beneficial.
And he might've forgotten that once the Killing game happened.
Also Makoto doesn't seem as well off as the rest of his classmates. He's fairly average, I don't think he came from a lot of wealth.
Which when your classmates with the son of a billionaire and the son of the former prime minister, that's a lot to stand up against.
I wonder if Makoto was afraid that if he failed he could lose his ultimate title entirely and be a regular person again.
But he wouldn't be able to afford the Reserve course fees, unlike someone like Hajime. Makoto's essentially here on a scholarship.
No wonder he was so stressed at the beginning of the game even before he knew about the killing game.

Danganronpa 3 except there's a post credit scene on the final episode.
Makoto's sat down on a sofa, he's tired but there's a smile on his face. He's got a message on his phone telling him to enjoy his day off.
He chuckles, turning the TV on and whatever he's watching cuts to an emergency news broadcast.
About 16 missing students from various schools, and hearing a recording that was found at one such kidnapping.
Makoto's blood runs cold as the tell tale voice of Monokuma...and some others(?) Fill the room.
"Our new Killing School life reality show is going to be just as if not more, despair inducing than the rest! Oo pu pu pu!
The screen fades to black and all we hear is Makoto's horrified scream.
Because you fools Makoto doesn't get a break.

Hello! I’m in love with your Honorary Remnant, and Befriend AUs. Does Makoto’s tendency to pass out consistently in THH carry over into either?
Aw thank u!
Yeah it carries over, Makoto's pretty unbothered by it but everyone got super concerned the first time they witnessed it.
They all keep an eye on him, especially Mikan. And Nekomaru because he's managed teams with players with a similar issue.
Gundam is considering giving Makoto a guardian, aka a sort of service animal to watch over him when the others aren't around.
He's also theorising if Makoto is cursed, which... Wouldn't suprise me honestly.
Teruteru makes sure he's eaten a good meal and had plenty to drink.
Because Makoto's tendancy to overwork himself, not helping the situation.
This is just added to the list of concerning stuff Makoto does.

Makoto and imposter alliance -> quickly turned friends.
How they started alliance in the first is because Makoto came to imposter for help on things togami might like because he (Makoto) likes bya and wants to impress him. So it starts out business-y at first but you know how makoto just can turn anyone to an ally and now he is a friend.
But psst togami is a bit jealous because how dare Makoto hangout with his faker when he literally right here in the flesh everyday.
Aww.
Byakuya you underestimate Makoto's ability to befriend. He will befriend you and your imposter, you gotta just accept it man..
Also Twogami is a sweetheart who would just take one look at Makoto and go well we're friends now. All the while also ordering them both dinner, because that is one scrawny ass boy.
