this was the problem with arlo— he was always coming up with these bright ideas, but they were never very realistic. if it even slightly involved the possibility of an opportunity to leave stars hollow behind and start a new life, he was hooked on it, no matter how idealistic. “ don’t look at me like that. go on, say it— ‘ oh, arlo, life doesn’t work like that. you can’t just skip town and pursue all these unrealistic pipe dreams. ‘ but fair warning, if you do say that, i’m gonna compare you to my mom. that’s exactly what she would say. ”

truth be told ? there was nothing juno would have loved to do more than pick everything up and go. just go. it didn’t matter where, it didn’t matter when. she was not made for being stagnant, for settling. but her responsibilities transcended her job. ( even if they didn’t need to, just how right did it feel to leave ? ) “ well, i wasn’t going to use that specific phrasing. ” it was true: life didn’t work like that, it was nothing but a pipe dream, but... “ i mean, unless there’s money in it, we can’t all just pick up and leave, sabbatical or not. ” and passion led to excellent teaching. would she be allowed a brief sabbatical ? she was sure of it. but the sense of responsibility that hung in the balance... on one hand, perhaps it would be better to get away some time. he wouldn’t know who was missing, after all. but on the other ? “ is there ? money in it ? ” damn, i’m making her sound like alan ! oh, but this is in regards to payments, not greed.

the bubblegum to her marceline ! the last thing i want to do is force ship. do you know how awful it is to get stuck in a ship when your characters wind up having no chemistry ? it’s terrible ! but, in any case, this is related to ‘friends/best friends’... only there’s more nuance to it. there’s a more complicated history and, to make it worse/better, more attraction. maybe there’s a fwb aspect ? whether this would culminate in something romantic-ish is totally dependent on how we think the chemistry is going, but wouldn’t that be sexy of us ? wouldn’t that be sexy of this connection ? old friends ! juno didn’t grow up in stars hollow, but she did grow up a few towns over. this could work well if summers were ever spent in one town or another, if weekends ever overlapped, etc. then... omg, she’s suddenly moved to stars hollow ( by ‘suddenly’ i mean, like... six years ago ) !? reunited and it feels so good !

roommate(s) ! trying to pay for shelter, food, transportation, etc ? all the while also paying for a nice retirement home ? she isn’t exactly the spitting image of wealth ! even if she’s still able to run off of inheritance, that only lasts for so long... and money as a music teacher ? you only get paid so much... she’s gonna need someone to split those utilities with ! his twin brother / the ford to his stan ! obviously this would be the case of picking up a new characters afhldks but literally think of stanley pines vs. stanford pines. as explained in the intro, alan and alex ( ‘al’ and ‘lex’ ) grew up relying on each other, close as could be ! in their youth, their differing, almost opposite, personalities clicked together perfectly. but, the older they got, the more the opposite became true. y/m ( alex ) became more obsessive, more withdrawn ; alan became more deceitful, more aggressive. it culminated in a terrible falling out. alan moved to stars hollow four years ago. whether y/m moved earlier or later is up to you ! ( 0/1 ) ( must be amab )

high and dry ! romance is not something alan understands. he’s heard of the concept, but he’s never felt it. thus, he and y/m met somewhere ( be it a chance encounter, through a dating app, etc. ) and hit it off. perhaps it was a drunk decision, perhaps it wasn’t, but the two decided to leave their meeting place and boink. now, even if there was no romance ? the sheer fact that alan got along with them and had good sex with them was enough to prompt him to leave in the morning, no goodbyes... and leave them with a hotline. conversely, if y/m woke up before alan, they could’ve done the exact same thing. ( preferably 24+ )

i can’t believe it’s not butter ! by trade and by hobby, alan is a conman. from slight scams to counterfeit bills to identity fraud, the man’s done it all ! and this includes having scammed/conned your character. although the status of the town -- aka, how small it is -- has made him more wary of anything big and/or traceable, they managed to figure it out. conversely, they did not manage to figure it out and he is still scamming them.

a naive customer ! this goes hand-in-hand with the above. basically, y/m comes into kim’s antiques a lot ! while most people usually see through his little lies about the products, but still buy them because what harm had it really done ? y/m genuinely believes every single thing he says. ( 0/2 )

a dog sitter ! he’s honestly half convinced that the man who sold him rexy saw his scam and scammed him right back -- some counterfeit money for a possum -- but he loves that odd animal. he loves that odd animal to the point that, if he can’t be around for just a day, he will get him some companionship. but he doesn’t trust just anyone with rexy... can you believe he trusts y/m enough ? ( 0/1 )

friends ! the man’s a sleazeball, but he’s gotta have some friends. he is, after all, a sleazeball with a heart of gold ! and once you’re friends with him ? he’s actually a great guy ! a lot of ribbing, sure, but it all comes from a good place !

friends with benefits ! different from high and dry in that the two were already friends. clearly since he hasn’t had any romantic feelings for them before, he won’t develop any now, right ? right ?! ( 0/2 ) ( 25+ )

BACKSTORY:

triggers: death (car accident), stroke, alzheimer’s disease

juno didn’t know her parents for long. as any given angsty tumblr rp background would include, a fatal car accident, courtesy of swerving out of the way of a drunk driver, took place when she was five.

unlike any given angsty tumblr rp background where the parents die at the beginning, she did have a stroke of luck that did not put her in the foster system: her mother’s parents. quick to step in and take on the role of guardian, juno was nurtured beautifully. offered a stuffed bear, who would affectionately become known as ‘yubby,’ absence, while felt and painful, was not as strong as it could have been.

angsty tumblr rp background something something. at eleven years old, it seemed that her grandfather -- pop -- had been acting a bit more erratically. more forgetful, slight changes in personality, but her grandmother -- mawmaw -- assured her that it was simply old age.

whale. angsty something something. old age caught up to mawmaw, suffering a stroke when juno was thirteen that would have complications leading to death a year later... as pop’s forgetfulness and personality changes became more intense.

although he was soon unfit to take care of a child, juno did her best to mask that and, instead, took care of him. everything he did for her, she began doing for him.

it was gradual, and whether that was good or bad, she wasn’t quite sure. but at nineteen, he ran through a spell of forgetting who she was... and it was then that it was deemed time to find somewhere more suited to take him, because now she wasn’t fit to take care of him.

a hefty amount of her inheritance was spent on uprooting and moving after researching some of the best facilities. a highly lauded one was placed in a city nearby... but, god, it was expensive. thus, she checked him there and moved to a cheaper town, just a couple miles out: stars hollow.

well... it’s given her more time to practice ! and teach kids about one of her greatest passions that i never went over in this intro bc im so tired ! it’ll be edited to expand one day i prommy <3

how do you try to achieve your goals?

“ how do i try to achieve my goals ? ” this wasn’t a job interview. in the casual world, there was a marked difference between ‘how do you try’ and ‘how hard do you try’ ! the latter was so much easier to answer. “ would it be, like, way too clichéd to say by putting in the work ? proficiency, all that, doesn’t come from... not acting. or, not for me, at least -- if there were a magic spell i could use... ” ...what goal had she truly achieved ?

what are your views on romantic relationships? do you see yourself growing old with a significant other?

“ i mean, the concept of being able to grow older with someone you really love is really damn good, isn’t it ? ” oh, what she would pay for one grand love ! an amount she would never speak, a sentiment held that she would never share, but something cruelly existent. “ but i think it’s one of those things that’s great in concept, awful in execution. you hear stories of people emotionally abandoning each other, people having affairs after a few married years, people just... getting bored, right ? ” perhaps that had become the majority of cases, and perhaps she so longed for the minority... but even in that case... “ but, in the end, you could have the greatest relationship ever... and wind up forgotten and left behind. not by any fault of your partner’s, but old age ? death ? you can’t really fight that. ”

what’s a lesson you had to learn the hard way?

“ everything is temporary, and you’ll rarely know when you reach the end. ” when had she become someone her pop only recognized emotionally ? when was she no longer juno to him, but... a nice girl whose company he was fond of. “ every relationship -- and i don’t just mean romantic and platonic -- ends in one way or another, right ? ” she wasn’t looking for confirmation, just a filler word. “ when was the last time you slept with your security blanket ? i mean, do you even know where it is ? ” the funny thing about that question ? juno’s version of a security blanket, her teddy bear, was the only thing that had stayed. “ even things that are meant to stay... it’s not like flowers don’t wilt. ”

BACKSTORY:

alan was born in a small oregon town with his brother, alex ( together forming ‘al’ and ‘lex’ ). with two less-than-savory parents, alan and alex relied entirely on each other.

alan had always proved to be the more temperamental of the two boys, inheriting volatility and gaining a protective instinct. thus, more often than not, alex took on the role of the caretaker. alan would pummel anyone who said shit, alex would make sure they had something to eat... a great balance !

of course, two opposite personalities meant opposite ways of dealing with the world. alan was a natural born liar, alex was filled to the brim with honesty ; alan fled from one thing to the next, alex stuck with something until obsession overtook him. and the differences that had pulled them so close together wound up being exactly what tore them apart.

slowly, they lost each other. slowly, they lost the only person they could ever rely on. slowly, they both sunk into destructive lifestyles -- different and the same.

alan began making use of his natural talent for lying to provide quick cons and scams. identity fraud ? yep. dishonest marketing ? obviously. meat fraud ? well... he would if given the chance.

four years ago, he stumbled upon stars hollow. and small towns were always the best marks. so he moved, got a job selling antiques ( which he lies through his teeth about, relying on the naivety and misplaced trust of small town locals ), forced some cons on the side, but... ultimately, wound up staying in for longer than the average eight months.

but dishonest, capitalistic, and everything in between... is it really for the best ?

CONNECTION IDEAS:

what are your views on romantic relationships? do you see yourself growing old with a significant other?

“ a significant other. you know, i’ve always liked that phrase. i know it’s intended for romantic partners and all that, but, hell, you know who’s significant and is an ‘other’ in my life ? ol’ rexy ! ” rexy looked far more like a possum than anything ( hell, when he first met that little dog, he’d been inclined to think the guy he gave some ‘very authentic’ money to had scammed him right back ), but did that take away from his personality ? the love he offered the unlovable ? certainly not ! “ i see myself growing as old as possible with that mutt, but talking romantic partners ? that’d imply i don’t redirect to hotlines... or get redirected to hotlines. ”

what do you believe makes life meaningful?

“ it’s the little things in life, ” alan began, nodding his head side to side. “ i mean, i know you’ve got those suckers out there who’d say ‘family’ and ‘friends’ and ‘love’ and all that bull, but you wanna know what really makes life meaningful ? ” he leaned in, as if to tell some deep, philosophical secret... but the man barely knew who plato was. bernie madoff, on the other hand ? “ it’s what’s gonna get you there ! you get enough green, you can buy all the friends and love you want. hell, even family ! you see how many orphans ol’ brangelina has ? at the end of the day, you factor in food and shelter and all that, those little gremlins don’t cost nothing. ”

what would your younger self think of you now?

“ first i’m hit with an indirect dig, then i’m hit with some kinda plato shit, and now i’m supposed to think about how little alan would see big alan ? is this a casual interview or are you gonna ghostwrite my memoir ? ” if little alan saw big alan, he would wonder what happened along the way. not for sake of who he had become, but for the bridges he had already burned, and the bridges he had just begun to set on fire. a child with something to live for turned into a lonely man, reliant on the cardinal sin of greed. but why would he ever say such aloud ? “ tell you what he’d think: he’d think ‘damn, i really made something of myself!’ ”
