no piece of teen media has ever accurately depicted the quiet psychological warfare of bullying. bullies on TV are always dumb brutes and not the evil geniuses of emotional manipulation that they are in real life. being given a wedgie and having your lunch money stolen is nothing in comparison to a classmate quietly creating a taboo against speaking to you that they intend to enforce against all the other kids. it’s nothing like continuous cutting comments from people you thought were being nice to you. that way that the work of one kid can make you feel like every person on earth silently hates you and that you are dirty, disgusting, worthless, creepy and useless. that you can have friends but many of them will not speak to you at school for fear of the social consequences on their end. how that damage lasts in any social setting for the rest of your life

Just venting, but I have a fic that i’m writing/posting and even though I keep reminding myself that it’s for a pretty inactive fandom I am getting pretty disheartened by the lack of comments.

Every time I post a chapter I get 20+ hits, I’m at 15 chapters yet only have one comment. From past fics I developed a theory that people are more likely to comment on a complete fic (my last two WIPs got several comments as soon as they were completed). I’m going to finish it no matter what because it’s almost done, but ugh it’s getting a little hard to stay motivated.

#at least I can see that people are reading it and coming back when I update it #but i’d love to hear people’s thoughts #especially since i’m practically betting for them in the notes

I don’t know how to say this in a way that doesn’t sound like I’m advocating for casual cruelty or whatever but something that grates so much about this current social moment is how many people are incapable of saying they dislike something or someone without cooking up some higher morally correct reason for their dislike. Sometimes you just disliked a book. Sometimes you don’t “get” an actor or a musician. There’s nothing morally wrong with your girl’s fuckass boyfriend he’s literally just annoying and you’re annoyed that you have to pretend you like him when you know he’ll be history in six months. It’s fine. You don’t need to justify your dislike.
