It was a bit funny that he was surprised by her hug. What? Did he forget she was a hugger? Just like her Human family had been? Or was it the last thing on his mind? Or did he think that time has stripped away the core of what made Balia who she was? Or was it simply he didn’t know she could send a real hug from miles away?
“You can at least tell me that he’s safe wherever he is right? If I know that people are safe that can be enough for me.” she rubbed her forearms. The inky black on them making a sound like there were feathers there.
“I’ll say. What are you? Six foot something? Why did I have to end up as the short one.” She cleared her throat and nodded her head with her hand in front of her nose and mouth.
“If you’d like me to come then I will. I know I’d like to see you in person. Hear from you what you can tell me. I’m not alone, just so you know. I’ve a small official guard that goes with me everywhere.”
“He’s alright... though time and events haven’t been... kind to him.“ He replied.
He took a step back from her - his incoporial form shivering slightly. For a moment, there wasn’t a man there, but a Jirachi floating in the air, “I have to go... but I will see you there.”

Ares took one look at her expression and sighed. He released her arm and took a step back, “Okay.” He paused for a moment, and nodded, “Okay…”

“It won’t be easy to find one Sword in the entire Weald… but… if we follow the river, we might have a chance at findin’ it.“ He added, “There’s a river not too far from here… it might be dangerous t’go that far off the path though.”
There was a hesitation in his voice. He did not want to get involved in over his head… but he also knew there was no way Kida could survive on her own out here. Plus - he had Ba’ul. With the Absol at their side - hopefully they could avoid most of the horrors that rested in the Weald.
Kida was honestly surprised by that response. For some reason she thought that the Rover would use this as an excuse to leave. She flustered and turned away from him, “Don’t expect me to pay you extra for this!”

Joseph really did try and calm himself down, so he took a few deep breaths, then he gently put his hands on her shoulder and he said in as calm of a voice he could.
“I can’t let you go alone.” He said as he looked her in the eye. “Not as you are  now. You are a child Kida. And you have no knowledge on how to protect yourself.” He said to her firmly. “I cannot, and I will not on my own conscience or honor let you do that alone.” He said, and he said in a retort to her; “And at this point, expect any guard to be aligned with those that want you out of the way. They may feel sympathy or not want to hurt you, but they are soldiers. And soldiers do their jobs.” He stated to her.
“And they are also knights. Knights swore an oath. Which makes their priorities to their oaths sacred. And if their oaths require them to capture you, they will.” He told her sternly.
He was saying this because he did indeed care. He cared, and he didn’t want to see her hurt, captured, or killed. Or worse. Made into such a puppet.
“And its for that reason you are a child, that I will not let an old man get his hands on you, so he can feel justified.”
The venom in his voice at that last part was palpable. He meant what he said, and he would help keep her away from such disgusting means.
Kida seemed surprised by this response. But she shook her head, “I cannot speak for the Knights in Galar, but I trust my own Knights.”

“You’ve done more than enough already. Just tracking down the Yveltal... so I know he really doe exist... is enough. I can’t drag you into the Empire’s Politics like that...“

Ares had been surprised when he saw Kida suddenly jump up, and quickly chased after her. It had been him that grabbed her by the arm and pulled her to a stop.
Tumblr media
“Kida wait!“ He panted lightly. He gently released her elbow as she came to a stop, and then stood there awkwardly. He really didn’t know what to say. He just knew he was in way over his head with this… but the look on her face when she had been sitting on the ground back there was burned into his mind.
“Kida…“ He started, but was unable to think of a way to finish that thought.
Kida was trembling with an emotion she didn’t quite understand. Was it rage? Either way, she felt her eyes watering. She refused to cry though - she had learned a long time ago that she was never to cry in front of others - especially not a Rover!
Tumblr media
“Don’t try to stop me!” She whirled around to face Ares, “I am going to look for the Sword!”

Joseph saw the confusion, and he could guess the why. It was a very easy guess, because if he were in her shoes, he would probably have the same thought.
“I think the reason why they haven’t asked you to take the mantle is because of either two reasons.” He said to her as he looked at her, then around the room. At this gilded cage, then back at her.
“You are a Princess.” He said as he looked to her with meaning. “You are either an obstacle, or a political leverage. Or both.” He said, then drew in a breath, then slowly released it in a sigh.
“You have legitimacy to the throne, you are the only legitimate heir, but that’s an issue, because you are a Princess. And so they possibly have two options. Marry you off to someone outside and get you a cushy situation outside of Galar. Or.” He said, his temper flaring again, it showed through his eye this time as it hardened with its distaste. “One of them marries you. And the heir becomes a legitimate ruler.”
It was one of the ways they could do things, and in many cases it was the smarter thing to do too.
A coup was something you had to deal with in both short and long terms.
They still had an heir, even if she was adopted. She was still recognized as an heir, so was her brother. So there laid the issue.
If they were going to use her for anything, his gut told him it was for legitimacy to the throne. They were probably just deciding who was the one that would marry her and try and wrest an heir from her.
It made him sick. So sick that his murderous intent leaked out from him. He wanted to go down there and give those old shithead nobles a tormenting death by his own hands.
Kida looked off to the side. These were things that deep in her heart... she knew. But at the same time... she didn’t want to think of. It was something she had known about her entire life.
Tumblr media
“Regardless - I plan to find out what is going on for myself.“  She looked back at Joseph, “If my Father really is dead, and marriage is the only option to keep Galar aligned with the Empire, then I shall do my duty. But, I must find out for myself first. If there is any way to clear my Brother’s name, and return him as heir to the throne, then that is what I wish to do.“
She could see the look on his face as he thought, and her pose stiffened up. Kida had no idea what he was thinking, but she could tell from the look in his eyes that it was nothing good.

“Kida. Does your brother strike you as the kind of person to do such things?” He asked, then looked at her seriously, his question had to be precise. And he had to think of it carefully.
“And Kida. Has anyone in the Nobility or knights been acting up lately? Has something been amiss with anyone?” He asked.
The first thing that always happened after a coup, was the power vacuum. The death of a King left a gaping big hole to be filled. And if the Prince was accused of being the killer, then any claim to the throne would be annulled if he couldn’t confidently put himself there. And if there were no news of the brother from her, then he was more then likely either dead, or he had escaped. She also said that he was being blamed. He figured she didn’t believe he did it, but he’d keep his reservations until he knew for sure.
She wouldn’t be able to inherit the throne because she was a Princess. The closest they could do was marry her off to someone else to get rid of her, or have one of the older nobility take her in as a wife. Give them legitimacy to the throne. The Queen was the next candidate to keep the throne in check but she was missing too.
He felt like he was on the verge of putting the pieces together. Everything seemed to be lined up too well to be coincidence.
And the potential plans that they had for this young girl made his blood boil. A crackle of electricity escaped from his hair with a little crackling fizz, but he shook it off to not let it be noticeable further.
Kida immediately shook her head, “No. Youta would never do such a thing. I believe that with my whole heart.”
As for the Nobles? Kida had to think about that for a moment. “No.” She finally replied, “At least not here in the Empire.”
Tumblr media
“Everyone here is on edge because of the rumors from Galar though...“ She added, “The rumors say that Grandmaster Hobard has taken over Motostoke until a ‘suitable replacement” is found. But that confused her -
Galar functioned off an ancient Legend that there was only one Family destined to rule, and that was either the Solvieg Family, or the Aldebrand Family - and the Aldebrands had been wiped out. Grandmaster Hobard also served under the Solvieg name... but then why hadn’t anyone contacted her? Was it because she was a Solvieg in name only, and not by blood? Or was there more going on than met the eye?

“…Going by something else are you? If you are, I can’t say I blame you.” she paused when they were only a couple feet away from each other. Throat tight and her uninjured eye tearing up. She tried to clear her throat and tried not to wipe at her eyes. Decades, centuries of thinking that she’d shed her last tears, and here she was.
“Arceus I can’t…. I just can’t. Koma…” Balia couldn’t help herself. Sure they hadn’t been best friends in the past. But she’d still adored her little cousins with her whole heart. And whether he was mirage or ghost didn’t matter, she reached out and hugged her cousin. Corporeal or not it was as if she was really hugging him. Something she’s started being able to do even when she was a human child. Being able to reach out and touch the non corporeal. It was a hug like she used to give. The kind that let the receiver know they were loved. But she pulled away and tried to address his questions. “Sorry… Of course I’m worried about him. I’m worried about everyone. My dreams are telling me storms are on the horizon again and I came here to try and make sure everyone was still sleeping undisturbed. And protect them if need be. The least I could do after not being there when…. when everything fell apart.”
The sudden hug caught him off-guard. Despite being an astral-projection, he almost stumbled back.
“I’m actually away on a mission from my Father.“ He replied without much emotion, “We’re on our way to Motostoke - in the Galar Region. I projected here when I felt something had trespassed here.“
He lowered his head, “A lot has changed in these past eleven hundred years.” He paused for a second, “I cannot tell you where my Father is - but if you wish, you can meet me in Motostoke?”

She froze for a moment when she heard someone talking. And then whirled about in less than a second to crouch a little in a defensive stance. Someone had snuck up on her and knew what she was! Her lip curled up to show off the sharp teeth humans never really expected to see.
But her company wasn’t human. They weren’t even corporeal. And as he stepped forward into the light, Balia’s brows furrowed as her senses stretched out to taste his aura. She’d grown so powerful that she could do that with mere images even.
“…How….?” She straightened up, lowering her blackened hands and the deadly talons on them. She started towards him.
“Koma?”
“I haven’t heard that name in awhile.“ His footsteps made no noise on the marble floor as he started towards her.
Tumblr media
“Not in over a millennia.“ He added in an almost amused tone, “What are you doing here? Worried about my Father?“

“No…. nononono~! It can’t be gone!” Balia’s blackened and talon-ed hands came up to her face. She dashed further into the room hands out to see if she ran into anything that couldn’t be seen.
But there was nothing. Nothing but an empty crater in what was still a glorious marble floor.
“Someone must have…. Oh Arceus I should have come earlier! But who could have…? Who else knew? Arceus… I’ve got to find him! Before…. before…!” she didn’t really know what. Anything bad! She circled the sight, floating again so she could maybe pick up any clues as to what happened.
“Relax, Meleotta.“ A smooth voice came from the entrance to the throne room that Balia had just passed through. There was the soft sound of heels clicking on the marble floor as someone stepped through the entrance, and stopped to stare at Balia.
Tumblr media
“Nobody stole anything.“ The voice was androgynously enough, but the form silhouette in the doorway was male. He stood about six feet tall, and there was a strange shimmer about him... almost like he wasns’t there at all, and instead it was a projection, or a ghost.
Tumblr media
He stepped forward, away from the door and into the light towards Balia. He stopped on the fringes of the beam of light, and looked up at her with a cocky smile, “Well... look who it is.”

She didn’t heed the unwelcome feeling. She blocked it out, as well as the signatures of the guard she always took with her but that were waiting just outside the walls of this ruined castle. She weaved a shield against the haunted feeling around herself. She started forward again. Moving through the grounds on memory towards the front door.
Many things had changed since she was last here. Things she’d never would have expected about herself, and about the world. How much things had turned on their heads. She’d thought what all she’d been through before the Fall had been horrific enough. That she’d lost enough loved ones. Getting lost in the ghosts of her past, of happier times was tempting. As was tapping into the past to see the history of what actually happened.
But just now there was something she was here for. She closed her eye and stretched out her senses. Trolling about the energies of the place to sift through the swill for the echoes of a certain something having to do with one of the people that used to live here. That she sorely missed.
“Aha~” Eyes still closed she started forward. Following the faint tracings of what… or whom she was seeking. Her dark cloak sweeping across the ground behind her. She moved forward like this till she came to rest where the largest conglomerate of the echoes met. and set herself back down on the ground from hovering through the air above the ground. And opened her eye. And fell into confusion.
“… what?” she whispered into the night.
The sense would lead her to a large room that had once been a throne room. There was a giant hole in the wall high above where something had once blasted through it, and whatever it had been had scrapped across the floor to come to a stop near the center of the room.. The pillars holding the ballroom up on that side of the room were smashed and collapsing, but the rest of the pillars still stood strong. Frayed remains of tapestries floated in the wind - mostly rotten away, and bleached of all colour. The floor had crumbled away in some spots, and there were deep scars of an ancient battle that were still visible in the cracked stone.
In the center of the room was a large crater where the Yveltal Cocoon had once stood. But now that spot lay bare - the marble floor where the Cocoon had once sat was clean and looked untouched by time, where the colour had long since drained from the rest of the floor. Light from the broken wall shone down on exactly that spot - bathing, and highlighting it in golden light...
But the Cocoon was gone now. Nothing but stone fragments remained where it once stood.

What’s Going on
@regalis-solveig
Balia wouldn’t have come here in the daytime. Somehow the sight of it in the daytime was worse. Seeing the halls she’d visited in her youth crumbling and overgrown with weeds and vines… it was horrible. Much easier to listen to the echoes of a place… and of people who she adored when the place was shrouded in darkness.
She seemed to glide across the grounds without any sound to indicate that she was really even there. Years ago she would have been afraid of ghosts hanging around a place of such tragedy and suffering, but she couldn’t care less about them now. Few things frightened her now like they once did.
She stopped moving finally. Half in shadow, half in the light of the moon and flipped the hood she had worn off of her head. Letting her long aqua hair free.
The Ruins of Rasvelg Castle rested where it always had been. Resting at the top of it’s mountain, the castle slowly decayed with time. Most of the castle was gone now - destroyed during the fall of the ‘Old World’, and then left to rot with time. The upper most floors were completely gone now. But the bottom floor stood strong.
The remains of a tall stained glass window reflected the sunlight, and cast streams of multicoloured light down upon the courtyard. The front doors of the castle had long since decayed and crumbled away - leaving a large, gaping black maw looking into the front foyer - which lay pitch black against the darkness of the midday sun.
Other than Balia, the only thing that moved was the the plant life that had heavily taken over the castle as it swayed gently in the wind. The once proud fountain in the middle of the courtyard was so overgrown with ivy that it looked like a bush. The once beautifully manicured walkways were gone beneath a heavy covering of moss and grass.
People seldom visited these ruins. For hundreds of years people believed they were cursed. They believed the place as the resting grounds for Death itself... and in more ways than one, they were not mistaken.
Due to the isolation of the place - objects from the ‘Old World’ still remained - shining dully in the sun, and looking out of place. In the far corner of the courtyard - an old gas-powered car still sat. It was nothing more than a hunk of rusted metal now. Its glass windows were long gone, and the interior had been used as a shelter for various Pokemon for so many centuries that nothing remained of it. And, near the foot of the fountain rested the rusted remains of half a Pokeball - an item banned, and had not seen in the New World for over a millennia. Inside the castle, there would be more artifacts - what remained of whatever electronics could stand the passage of time, appliances that were once considered ‘modern’, but would now be considered magical, lay rusted and destroyed.
There was an odd presence in the air though. A dark, haunting feeling. A feeling that would tell anyone who dared cross through the cast-iron gates that they were not welcome there. After all, this place was not for the living. This place was a tomb. The place where the fall of the Old World began...

—–
Joseph had peered through some of the windows, and he had seen similar things like he had seen with the guards. Tense maids had worked, their eyes wandering about, like there was something wrong. Hushed voices behind windows and shutters, inaudible to even Joseph’s good hearing. He’d had to continue on, but he noted the tense glances, the looks of worry from what he saw.
And when Kida opened the window, and he saw how worried she was about someone coming in, he walked quietly in, and latched the window closed again.
He paused, put his finger to his mouth, his good eye serious.
On silent feet, he went to the door, and put his ear and good hand on the ground. No vibrations or footsteps, good.
“I was searching for your friend.” He said quietly as he drew back and then looked around her room, then turned to her, his eyes fixed to hers.
“I found him, I don’t know if he’s arrived yet or not. There was little I could do in forcing him.” He said to her. He felt he had managed to convince him, though fighting him had been an option. But even then Joseph knew that the odds had been against him there. But he would have done it, he had faced similar odds before.
“He’ll arrive when he feels he’s good and ready. But enough about that.” He said as he gently put his hands on her shoulder. “What is going on? Something feels off about this place. Something bad.”
He couldn’t put it into words, but it was a feeling he had felt many times before. In places where the people were unhappy, and under a new ruler that was ruling with an iron fist.
It was a heavy atmosphere that felt like it was fraught with tension and danger.
Kida’s exhaustion instantly melted away, and her look was immediately replaced with a hopeful, excited one, “You met with him? Really?!”
So he was out there? She closed her eyes and tried to picture him in her mind once more... but surprisingly enough, it wasn’t him that appeared behind her eyelids... but someone who looked very similar. Kida internally choked, and opened her eyes again. It wasn’t too surprising - after all, she had hired the Rover because he looked so much like the Yveltal in the hopes he could lead her to him as well.
Tumblr media
She embarrassedly pushed the thought from her mind and shook her head, “A lot has gone on since you left...” She hesitated for a second, and looked over at the table in the center of her study. Kida quickly closed and re-latched the window behind Joseph, and then gestured at him to follow her over to a large circular desk in the middle of the room. Jiji stretched and walked over to climb up onto Kida’s shoulders, like an over-sized cat.
She took her seat again, and gestured at one across from her, “I suppose I should start off by saying my Mother is missing... and my Father is dead, and they are blaming my Brother for it. Galar has apparently closed off their borders due to the King’s death too... so we can’t even get any information about it.”
Kida looked down at her documents once more, she felt a bitter laugh form in her chest, “At least... that is what the rumors are saying.” She could understand the over-caution at the Castle right now... but somehow she was not surprised he managed to get in without being noticed.

Ares had heard enough, and sunk down the wall to sit on the ground. He turned to look at Kida. This sounded much worse than he bargained for. It sounded to him that these mystery guys that had attacked Kida were after much more than just the Princess.
Kida sat on the ground with both hands covering her mouth and was trembling. Her eyes were wide with disbelief. She wanted to run, but couldn’t seem to find the strength. Her knees trembled beneath her.
Those were just rumors. They had to be! Her Father was the strongest person she knew... and Youta was so kind. He idolized their Father... there was no way he would... he couldn’t be...
And to make matters worse... these men that had attacked her, killed her entourage, and chased her through the Weald were trying to take advantage of the situation to start a war?
Tumblr media
She felt a knot form in her chest and her eyes water... but she fought against it. Kida had been taught a long time ago not to cry in front of others. Still, her breath hitched in her chest.
They were just rumors. Kida reminded herself. Remember: You have to get to Galar to see for yourself...
The sound of a door opening snapped her from her thoughts, and she flinched involuntarily. A new voice quickly joined the others...
“Hey- change of plans.“ The new voice echoed, “Word just arrived from the Boss- he wants us to find some Holy Object that may have washed downstream into the Weald.“
“The Boss says the body of the King, and Zacian’s Holy Sword could not be found. He thinks they could’ve washed downstream.“ The voice continued.
There was a telltale sound of protest from the two Pokemon in the stables. One with a rough and gruff sounding voice groaned, “But what about finding the Princess?!”  “We’re supposed to keep doing that too - but let’s face it - she’s a Noblewoman lost in the Weald. Even with her one retainer with her - she’s probably long dead.” “How sad.“ A third voice sighed.
“Wait-“ the Gruff voice snapped, “Wait a minute- why the fuck would the Holy Sword be in the Weald to begin with? I thought it was locked in a vault in Motostoke?“  “Apparently the ex-Prince had it.“ The first voice said in a disinterested tone, “Rumors say that the Prince used it to kill the King, and that’s why the Boss thinks that both might have washed down the river here.“
There was some mild complaining from the Pokemon, before the third voice spoke up, “I guess it’s not surprising... the ex-Prince is said to be the last surviving child of Zacian... it would make sense if he had her Sword.” “We need to find it before anyone else does.“ The first voice spoke up, “If it somehow made its way back to the Prince - it would be disastrous. He could use it to rally people in the North. Plus, with Zamazenta’s Holy Object still at the castle... the Sword could be the only thing that can stand up to it.“
Kida felt a rage wash over her. She had heard enough. Without thinking, she jumped to her feet... and broke out into a run. She wanted to get as far away from the stables as possible... she didn’t want to hear it. No more.
Youta had the Sword... but it was now here in the Weald?!
She suddenly felt someone grab her by the elbow, and pulled her to a stop. She didn’t fight back, and allowed herself to stop. Jiji flew around her with a worried look and chattered at her softly, but she didn’t look up.
