The thing about Katara is that she was angry.
She was angry that the Fire Nation killed her mother.
She was angry that her father left them.
She was angry that she was the only Waterbender left in the south pole.
She was angry that the only person her age was her brother, who constantly disregarded her interests and her role in the tribe.
She was angry that what little waterbending she knew, had to be self-taught and how she struggled with that.
she was angry that a twelve year old instantly picked up what had taken her a long time to learn.
she was also angry that her tribe wanted to kick that twelve year old into the wilderness over a mistake.
she was angry over the earth-benders the fire nation had captured and put into a metal box.
she was angry.
And she knew she was angry.
Because she knew her own anger, she was the first to empathize with Aang when he got angry.
And it was because of it she could tell Aang forcing himself to lock his emotions up was not the answer.
Because she knew her own anger, she kept herself under control in the dessert, when everyone else was a mess.
Her anger empowered her. where anger was a tool of self-destruction for firebenders, for her it was what helped her push forward.
It was her anger that freed Aang.
It was her anger that helped her stand to Pakku.
Her anger was her strenght.
She was angry. And this was neither a mistake, nor a writing flaw.

I liked it better when Katara released Aang from his 100 year slumber through the pure unfiltered rage of a feminist rant at her brother

hot take: even if the atla live action show wasn't a flaming bag of garbage, I would still tell people not to watch it because you need to stop encouraging them to REMAKE AND REBOOT THINGS.
make something fucking new. stop stewing in nostalgia. look to the future. if you can't leave the past, then die there.

Small detail that I loved - at about 1:17 you can hear the door to Crusty’s open again behind Percy and he looks over his shoulder knowingly because our girl Annabeth just walked in invisible

I seen a lot of people argue at Percy is too smart in the show but One, Sally Jackson used Greek myths as bedtime stories, she took him to museums, she did her best to teach him about the God's and monster's that were gonna come to hurt him, was he ment to not learn anything? And Two, Perseus Jackson isn't an idiot! The books are from HIS point of view and he's is an unreliable narrator that THINKS he's an idiot. He's not ACTUALLY an idiot.

Watching episode two again for the fic, and I’m just realizing? When Annabeth put on the cap in front of Percy and then proceeded to leave visible footprints and rustle that plant while she walked off, she was probably doing it on purpose to make Percy think she was gone so she could watch him undisturbed. She knew he was smart enough to know she’s still there and track her movements so she put on a little show and made it look like she was gone. Always six steps ahead.

Again they dangled Annabeth’s fatal flaw in front of her through Hephaestus saying that if she were to leave right then with the shield, she would win back her mother’s favor and be a hero, two things Annabeth has wanted more than anything in the world her whole life. And again she chooses to stick by her friend and protect him because if they don’t break the cycle, who will? If they continually sacrifice each other to get ahead, just as the gods have done with each other and demigods for centuries, what will be left but the destruction of the world?
But Percy isn’t that way. Annabeth has the chance to have everything she’s ever wanted but not the way she wants. She doesn’t want to be that way anymore. She’s breaking the cycle.
