The most recent ecords I have picked up were mostly in auction lots,
some in Northampton and one lot in Dundee, no prizes for guessing
which country these few came from.
This caught my eye as I thought it said on the back that the
drummer was Bill Nelson but I'd misread it, as it was Bill Neilson
and besides Bill is a guitarist anyway so it was one hell of a long shot!
Volume 1 was withdrawn of course as it was With Kids.
Almost taking the piss in such Scottish pants, I really am gonna
have to start a 'Scottish vinyl' blog soon...
Other bits from down south.
His brilliant debut 7" in great nick, thanks Ronnie.
Quirky 4 track EP which I'd not seen before but I recognised a few of the tunes.
This single has crossed my path before but not in this if... movie sleeve
I was well chuffed to find this pair of Century 21 EP's in the same box
- never had a copy of the Daleks one before.
Never seen nor heard this one before either.
I didn't pick these up in an auction but found them in one of
the many boxes of CD's in my garage after the move up north,
the One Cut disc looks like I hardly ever played it and the top 2
are We Love You Records comps and all 3 have artwork which
makes them collectable because of some fella called Banksy.
This was a sweet find in a charity shop in Arbroath, the UK issue with booklet.

I've picked up a mixed selection of 7" finds on a trip down south,
I only came to Northants see my mum for a few days but she
insisted on taking me charity shop hopping. She's got a great eye
for ceramics and jewellery but I tend to stick to the things I know best and they're usually round with sound.
Yes it's (probably) rubbish but I can't leave 20p 7″s like this for some strange reason.
These 2 EP's we're sandwiched between some classical LP's,
I was very pleased with the Moondog as I've never found anything
by him in the wild before.
Lovely blue vinyl horoscope disc from 1960, I guess there are more in the set...
I'd never heard this this 70's summer tune before but it sounds spookily familiar.
A Funky Disco classic.
Scarce finger snapping tune from '63.
Even Discogs don't have this single listed, it was the theme to a
musical about Robin Hood starring Babs Windsor that totally bombed.

On a trip to my old hunting grounds, local car boots & charity shops
etc, I've had a few good finds in Scotland including a huge jazz
collection but for sheer I-never-know-what-is-gonna-turn-up,
Northamptonshire has few equals for surprises, although I rarely
stray further than Bucks so I'm kinda biased, but I did find a few
nice things at a boot and a shop with the weekend finds to come.
Time was I'd pay little attention to the boxes the records were in
but this pretty 60's case was too good to leave for a pound.
I assumed the 'Featuring CHILDREN' refered to the kids on the front
but it was to a composition of his own and sadly not a cover of the
Robert Miles tune either.
I've never come across a copy of this scarce album before,
the sleeve has wear but the disc is lovely.
A nice minty album of childrens songs released on a Topic imprint,
some good witchy (Ritual Games) tunes on side 1.
I find it incredible that an Appalachian folk album released in 1977
to raise money for an obscure American coal mine somehow finds
it's way to a field in Northampton! It's signed on the rear but I can't
make out if it's either of the artists - Rich Kirby or Michael Kline.
The tip shop in town had a lot of fresh albums but I unearthed
some interesting globe spanning singles.
Square flexi-postcard picture disc from Venice.
Arabian release from 1962 by Saken Qassadi
Obscure Welsh indie band from 1984.
UK one sided stereo test disc.
12" of the classic Planet Rock complete with Hip Hop sticker.

auction win - all sealed!

I have discovered the joys of Scottish auctions which has turned
up all sorts of things and not just records, I won a couple of boxes
of folk albums of varying quality but pretty much all in tip top condition.
However, when the kind gentleman from the auction house loaded
them into my car told me to make room for the other stuff I'd won
which confused me as I assumed I'd only won records but it seems
part of the lot included paintings, crockery, mirrors and other stuff
I never wanted. So the lesson I have learned is that I have to watch
the "additions" to lots I bid for as I was left with a car full of some
dead persons belongings that I had to make a trip with straight to
the nearest charity shop, apart from a couple of really nice plant pot holders.
I found quite a few Scottish singles in the charity shops
(probably no surprises there) but there were some interesting ones
(to me) like this pair celebrating the opening of the Tay road bridge
in August 1966 turned up among the albums. The blue bags hanging
from the railings were full of sweets and crisps (not poo) and are
along the bridge, not sure if these have been left to try and dissuade
folk from leaping off but it's possible as there are warning signs not to jump.
The legendary rail bridge is in the distance, it was as grey a day as it looks too.
Charity shops and SNP HQ side by side.
A cool minimalist sleeve for a disc by a folk duo released in 1963
and how nice to "come by" a whistling EP by the great Jimmy Shand.
Does it get any more Scottish than these three?
yes it does...

I found a whole load of Polish and Eastern European flexi discs,
lots of artists I'd never heard of and many of the Polish card discs
have bizarre pictures totally unrelated to the music,
this is the pick of the bunch.
a curiously familiar logo
T.Rex/Diana Ross
Pussycat (famous for that Mississippi song)
the UK's Eurovision Song Contest titans
only the band The Beatles could have been
Frank Sinatra
funk n soul double header
Adamo
Austrian promo for coal briquettes!
Kiki I Pearly
The Jacksons
Tom Jones/The Hollies
Billy Joel
Lenin speeches from 1919

Vinyl finds from a weekend trip to Dundee and a day out in Reading.
Perhaps the only place I was ever going to find a fully sealed England football LP was going to be a charity shop in Scotland
Bizarrely these 2 old rockers were in the same box in an Age Concern shop.
Weirdest find was this album of salesmen seminars by the Combined Group Of Companies, complete with booklet insert.
A great double album of Poe stories with excellent gruesome sound effects.
No sexy sound effects here but a couple of good Donna Summer covers.
Mildly interesting unknown fact from a lifelong LFC fan :
The day he retired in 1974 my parents brought home a new pet,
a myna bird who I named Shankly in tribute to the great man.
One of several excellent albums I have enjoyed after buying a big Jazz & Blues collection recently.
I found a handful of singles too and this one is a stand out oddity.
An over sized 78 flexi stuck onto card available in exchange for chocolate wrappers.

Sorry I have not been updating for some time but I will
post up some of my fave finds over the past few months.
There was no way on this gods earth I wasn't going to throw 50p at this beauty!
A bluesy one from 1968 which I had never come across before,
love the sleeve art more than the music to be honest.
Acid Pysch from 1970
Martin (Williams) & Derrick (Morgan) released in 1962 (in stunning condition)
I love finding things like this I've never seen before, this is an in-store
promo only compilation from 1972 that has it's own stand on the back
to place it on the shop counter and a sterling selection of tracks.
Not surprisingly this turned up in Scotland, it's a promo 7" singing
the virtues of Dundee in the coming age of technological enterprise
to a minimal/ synth-pop backdrop, the only ever release on Tay Records.
Another find north of the border was this bluesy single and 4 years
before that Swedish band stole their name.

It’s always quiet for finds at this time of year with the car boots
in hibernation and less exciting vinyl clogging up the charity shop bins.
I have however found several nice and fairly unusual records in the
past few months so I hope you find them of interest.
A bizarre electronic album from the mid 70's by Mort Garson
One of a handful of Beatles albums - this bootleg is from 1985
An original Jamaican pressing in single sleeve, my UK copy has
a much smarter gate-fold but it's weird how it's only now I have
noticed that the background on it is all coloured in with blue felt-tip!
UK 7″ promo from 1973
Sweet charity shop find and it's playable but is pretty scratched...
A nice belly dancing LP from the 60's - I just love the inner sleeve.
I bought this brilliant album new, I've had the CD since 1997
but it's such a personal fave it's lovely having it on vinyl.
I do have a tatty old copy of this somewhere but this one is shiny
nice and comes with the original poster, it features so many great
tracks all under 1 minute long from Andy Partridge to Robert Wyatt.

This album, which I nearly left in a £1 bin but thought I'd take
a punt on and was so pleased I did as it's really nice. I did some
deeper searching on the artist and he's gone on to do TV themes
for everything from The Windsors to the ITV News and loads more,
this was his debut album.
I met with Trunk Records label boss Jonny Trunk earlier in the
week to discuss a forthcoming book on flexi-discs we are putting
together with DJ Food for publication in the new year.
After I was waffling on about flexis and Milton Keynes radio he
suddenly said how much he'd been looking for a Milton Keynes
related flexi which I quite fortunately had a spare copy of.
So he very kindly offered to swap it for his new soundtrack album
which landed on my doorstep the day after. He was a lovely chap
and I look forward to the book launch sometime around March 2019
at The British Library in that London.
This is the video I put up a while back featuring the music on it,
don't be surprised if it turns up on a future Trunk release.
I couldn't resist this pair of signed old folk albums, by old folk.
I came across this unusual 7" slipped between some rubbish
records in a box in a shop, I couldn't find anything about it
anywhere but it seems like it was a special pressing for the
birthday party of the lady on the cover.
She was married to Tommy Tucker, who I assume is the same
one who hit the charts in the early 60's with Hi Heel Sneakers
and their friends must have got together to make a one off single
to celebrate her special day, it's a likely theory unless anyone knows more?
My best auction win of the month (for £6 + commission) were
2 x Century 21 albums from the mid 60's that were both in beautiful,
excellent+ condition. I have seen other copies before but they are
usually pretty well played and scratched as those pesky kids just
didn't think to look after their records back in '65.
But it seems likely these were only played a couple of times
and stored which is most unusual for Century 21 records.

Sept - Oct : pt.2
I won several interesting boxes of mixed vinyl for £55 at
an auction. There was a lot of chuff but some real gems
tucked away including original Stones, Dylan etc.
Although there was a Satanic Majesties with it's daft 3D sleeve
I was most pleased with this 1st UK mono pressing of my 2nd
favourite Stones album (there was sadly no first issue of Let It Bleed
not that I'm complaining, honest)
Out of a really odd mix of albums this Todd Rundgreny
album of Power Pop stood out with some strong tunes.
I knew nothing about this until I noticed it was on the Sarah
label and then a nice surprise to discover it's stupidly rare.
There was a whole bunch of unused flexi-disc greetings cards,
probably from the late 50's.
Not a flexi-disc but tucked inside this EMI Xmas card sleeve
was the comedians debut from 1968, I definitely have an earlier
disc by him though in the shape of a flexi in a 'Do-It-Yourself
Comedians Kit', somewhere...
On the same label and in the same box was this early 7"
by Leonard Cohen, someone certainly had eclectic taste.
I had not come across this disc before, released by the
Crackerjack 70's TV show star, alongside him is an early
sighting of Lenny Henry who doesn't actually feature on the record,
with it's cheeky b-side.
Locally stamped sleeve for the only release by the R&B band
who would turn into Family a few years later.
This UK demo is signed on the label but am damned if I can
make out who's name it actually is, it doesn't look like Cissy's.
One of the stranger discs in the boxes was this Swedish
kinda proggy oddity by Ola & The Janglers - listen
This 7" by Hot Gossip comes with it's own Zoetrope!

Sept - Oct : pt. 1
Test pressing for the LP that came out in the 80's
with kids singing pop hits on a TV show, the original
record is a charity shop classic. Listen
The first of several albums released by this Corby based school band.
Both of the original 78rpm discs of this mix of music/narration
were together in the same box as the Mini-Pops : hear side one
This was a nice find, a unique sleeve for the record that
was offering employees of the M Wholesale Group an
opportunity to go on a 4 day holiday to Majorca.
I couldn't find any more info on this once in a lifetime competition.
A twice signed 7" by the great botanist - I had to double check
he was still alive too and happily he is!
A personally recorded 5" disc recorded in seaside booth
"in Weymouth Pier" probably in the 60's.
A nice mid-70's folk album, the guy I bought this from told me
he still keeps in touch with the singer so I gave him my email
and told him to let him know I'd have him in for an acoustic
session if he's interested.
A couple of other old albums with lovely gate-fold sleeves
I bought from the same bloke.
The final album by The Move who had been reduced to
Roy, Bev and Jeff by 1971.
A double compilation album from 1970 on Blue Horizon.
I am old enough to have a soft spot for Kojak on Saturday night
TV as a kid, but still wish I'd come across a Star Trek or Batman
edition of this comic/album edition.
Best find for ages for just a £1 was this Sci-Fi movie s/t composed
by David Campbell, I checked out his CV and he's worked on so
many records from Adele to McCartney and composed soundtracks
from Boogie Nights to World War Z, and he's also the father of Beck!
I am too tempted to find a download of this to be honest and keep it
as I found it, sealed!

August - part 2
I took a punt on this Polish Funky Jazzy LP as it had a version
of Shaft on it, but it turns out it's a pretty great album overall : hear
I've been listening to this 1970 US kids TV soundtrack
album I found out and about, I had not heard of them before
but the songs are all pretty strong, it sounds similar to
The Partridge Family - but instead of storming the charts
must have sold maybe 100 copies at the time and then deleted,
there was no Cassidy factor : hear
