I create art as it has what I have grown up doing. I don’t believe I ever chose to be an artist; I was just born as one. I love to draw inspiration from the world around me and my passions and pour that into the work I create. Art is about saying something, and through my practice I aspire to tell the world about myself and the things I enjoy. I draw inspiration from artists such as George Shaw, Catherine O’Donnell, Andy Warhol, and much more. The way they convey everyday subject matter through their use of form, colour, and design is how I aspire to create works, highlighting the beauty of insignificance and forcing an audience to see how beautiful their everyday surroundings are instead of overlooking them. Not only this, but my own passions are shown through my works and in particular I love to create pieces about music and musical figures. The best way to express what it is you love I believe, is through creating art. I work across an array of areas within art painting, drawing and photography in particular. When working with colour in painting and photography, I like to create works that are bright and vibrant to portray things around me in a slightly surreal way to enhance its beauty and give an interesting and otherworldly atmosphere to my work. When I am drawing I typically work in graphite and charcoal and produce very different results depending on which mediums I use. My works are generally quite neat and intricately detailed when taking photographs, painting or using graphite however I enjoy getting messy with charcoal, literally and figuratively, as I find it refreshing to become lost in what I create, just letting go to create expressive, and intriguing works. I believe this is just the beginning of my artistic journey and hope to further grow and learn about myself and the world throughout my creations by exploring and experimenting with concepts to further develop my ideas and art practice.
