tony wouldn't have given two shits about some sort of mistaken good guy sob story about saving james barnes. not in this moment. not in the heat of the blood rage boiling in his veins. not when there was anger in his eyes that made him blind to anything but his target. hell. it swallowed him up. made him impulsive. made him unreasonable. made him vomit out vitriol that was pent up. not only for brock. or hydra. or the plethora of reasons why he would hate just rumlow. but why he had so much anger. period.
every reason.
every cause.
every god damn injustice. every battle lost. fuck it. every battle won. every fight they had to get into. every reason why. every pain. every tear. not only the ones he shed. but the ones steve shed. rhodey shed. peter shed. thor shed. the tears they all cried until they couldn't anymore. the deaths they died. the ashes they fell into. the scars burned into their bodies. the limbs stolen away. the list goes on and on and when he charges the man, he's charging so much more than just a man.
lucky for brock. without a steve or bruce or peter here to stop him. it was his lack of practice and the rustiness of it all that had him using his human arm instead of the one that could've crushed a skull with a mere squeeze. he missed and maybe it was the sensical part of him inside that made sure he did. made sure he would lose this one because if he won? when he was out of this daze? there'd be blood on his hands and a regret so deep?
his arm's grabbed and he's over brock's shoulder but tony lands on his feet and his metallic fist finds it's mark just short of rumlow's kidney and this blow is hard, but not as hard as it could've been.
"and..you should be dead."
@reactoric: „ [ fight ] sender gets into a physical fight with receiver. “
BROCK TILTED HIS HEAD TO THE SIDE AS HE SQUINTED HIS EYES. HE KNEW he was the villain in their story , the one working with hydra and no one would understand the things he had done. hell , sometimes he even couldn‘t forgive himself and he was done explaining himself. no one needed to know anything , no one needed to know the things he would have done for james barnes or the fact he was actually trying to be better , because he had no choice any longer. not when steve rogers interfered and he just let out a soft huff. „ you should get in line , y‘know. “ , brock spat and the anger was audible in his voice , as he raised his chin and his hazel orbs stared at tony.
his least favorite , if he was honest , from all these heroes thinking they knew it all. thinking they had it all figured out and knew what they were doing. he exhaled a deep breathe , as he could feel the first punch. it didn‘t hurt , well sort of did , but it wasn‘t like it hurt as bad as the other times he had bee in a fight. tony had strength , just not as much as he was used to and he was quick to dodge the next hit , before he grabbed the arm in order to throw him over his shoulder. „ you should have stayed away. “

home. he's home. and with a tired body that only ends up feeling lighter and more aware than it has in hours the second he sees her, tony makes his way to the couch. one knee. then the other. right onto the cushions where he watches her as he crawls over and without hesitation. his head is in her lap and he's breathing in the smell of what's left of her perfume and fabric softener and the scent that is just her. it's a well deserved break from the metallic smells of ozone and electricity that he's been surrounded with all day. and those fingers in his hair? he melts.
"mmhmm. too long," a hum of thanks echoes the warmth of the blanket coming down upon him. brows crinkle together at the news of her having to leave. but it's how they work. always have. he's not the one that has an easy schedule to deal with. being who he is. or has been. or was. or keeps saying he's not but keeps being. and her being her badass self... they have their places to be. doesn't mean he can't pout about it for a minute. but then he's turning his head and looking up at her. bottom lip still jutted out for a blink or two. until it melts into a smile. "few days, huh?" and fingers made of flesh and bone reach up, tangling a strand of blonde hair around his forefinger. tone playful, he smirks.. "well. guess that means you're going to have to get some sleep on the plane in the morning..."
@reactoric asked: [ REST ] sender places their head in receiver’s lap (he's back bitches)
𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐋𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐇𝐈𝐌 𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐂𝐇, lost in the file on her tablet. it's more of the same shit she's used to; drug cartels, undercover ops, the long haul... and yet she's absorbed in it, studying her next mission, preparing herself mentally for what's to come... until she feels weight shift in the cushion, and tony's head settles into her lap. a soft smile tugs at her lips as she sinks into the couch, a hand falling to brush delicate fingers through his hair.
❝ long day? ❞ she asks softly, finishing up the file before setting the tablet onto the end table. reaching back, she tugs a throw blanket from the back of the couch, tossing it over him and smoothing the wrinkled fabric over his arm. ❝ i'm gonna have to head out in the morning--- new assignment came through. shouldn't be more than a few days. ❞

@skyguarded || morbid curiosity || accepting!
do you want me to stay ?
tony's not one to reach out. ask for help. for advice. for company. it's not how he's wired. you'd think he's changed by now. like one of the many near death experiences he's had throughout the recent years would've cast some great epiphany of enlightenment onto his brain and soul that said: you're not alone and you don't have to be. look at everyone around you. they're just waiting for your hand to reach out.
but.
you know?
it hasn't.
and now? one hand's made of metal and who needs that weirdness anyway? warm flesh? cold metallic? enough to give anyone shivers. even tony as he wriggles around in his desk chair that he's bent so much into that he's practically become one with it. legs crisscrossed (cause he can't sit like a normal person) and shoulders hunched. glasses hanging out his mouth by one arm and clenched teeth. who needs them to see. right?
the glow of an led screen highlights a brow that creeps up on his forehead. he's been deadly silent ever since the other suggested he's probably heading off for the night. back from whence he came. as one is prone to do once work is over and their obligation is done. it'd be an emptying out of the test room. no one left here but him. and he's used to that. he's made it that way ever since he's semi-resurfaced from the solitude he's kept himself in for the better part of four years now.
"hmm? oh. i...," fingers come up, waving around the empty space. vast and full of computers and work benches and all things hollow, empty, electronic and unfeeling. soulless company. dark eyes land upon shiro and he, finally, pulls his glasses out of his mouth and stops talking through clenched teeth. "don't let me keep ya, bud. if there's somewhere you gotta be? by all means. i'm sure you've got better company than work.."

// oh hi to one of the most lovely people on this planet! ily. :*
i'm from pennsylvania. fun fact: my grandma had a house with a hidden room that was on the underground railroad route. our town is very well known for a stop on the way towards philadelphia or canada. while there's no documentation on if it was used for that purpose since records were SPOTTY at best back then. the main town had like 370 people in it at best. there are quite a few houses in her tiny little hamlet (that maybe had like 10-15 families or less) she lived in that are speculated may have been (and it's highly likely since it was so hidden back in the hills) on that list! i've, also, lived in every timezone in the u.s. since then. i like to travel and move around to different places because of how small that town was. escaped when i was in my teens and never looked back.
i love the beach and putting my toes in the sand right where the water hits the shore. one of the best feelings ever.
i once got to do a little dance with robert smith from the cure because i gave him a teddy bear and he absolutely fell in love with it. so? we danced. as two goths who love teddy bears do. ......what?

∗ 4o﹕ sender traces one of receiver’s [ scars / bruises ] .
Penny's got him close enough, Tony can feel the warmth of her skin radiating against his collar. The thin strap of her slip dress rests against the hook of his pointer finger. He's been toying with it for a handful of breathless minutes now. Eyes closed. His forehead pressed to hers. The room's warm thanks to the fireplace. They're barefoot and his tie's gone the way of the wind. So has the jacket but not the vest or his dress shirt that's had a button or two popped free.
Metal arm around her waist, they barely sway to the music anymore. Two humans. Standing near one another. Her hand on his chest. The other? It draws a breath out of him that comes heavy and with a quick gasp of air sucked in right after. A feathery touch from fingers that could caress or kill in one practiced twitch glide along the spiderweb of scars that lead towards his ear. Faded but not gone. Certainly not forgotten. Burn marks from their fated fight with a wannabe God who needed to be put down like a rabid dog once and for all.
No matter what the cost...
Or who paid it.. And so many did. Not only him.
The skin is sensitive there. Wakanda and the scientists there could've removed more, done more. And, for reasons he's kept to himself even to this day, Tony Stark --the oh so vain Tony Stark-- didn't let them. Dark eyes open. Half lidded under thick lashes. He turns his cheek, slight stubble presses against her soft skin as her tracing continues. Up. Over his ear. Towards his temple.
"Do they bother you," he asks softly--curious and maybe a little self-conscious, "I used to worry about everyone seeing them and being sent back to that day.. In their heads. Sometimes I wonder if I'm right about a few of them. You think? Don't know. Stopped letting myself think of it after a while. Er. Well. Mostly.."
