Every time I read a Pynch fanfic and Adam and Ronan call each other pet names I get very confused. Like, you just had Adam call Ronan “Ro” and Ronan call Adam “baby”… did we read the same book?? The only pet names I will tolerate are “shitbag” “asshole” and “ancient eldritch forest”

ugh do you ever think about how in blue lily ronan comes to see adam when he’s working late and ends up talking about how people like them (adam&ronan) don’t really need aglionby, that they’re part of something bigger than the academic world of aglionby, and adam tells him not to lump them together, that they aren’t the same, because adam needs aglionby and tries and ronan doesn’t. and how ronan really was just excited to be able to interact with another person connected to this otherness that he has been part of for his whole life. and so immediately after this interaction ronan takes adam to the barns to show him what he’s been working on. and, yes, that is ronan letting adam into his world a little more but at the core of the gesture is ronan saying, look, i’m doing something with my life, doing things that matter, i matter. because he wants adam to see him.
