Chapter Thirty-Six: Adventure
(Zayn's Point of View)    I was feeling daring today. I actually wasn't planning on doing anything too adventurous today but a couple of my old pals from my how do you put it in a "non-illegal" way.. racing days wanted to get together and I bailed on them, but maybe Michelle wanted some adventure today?    It was in a time ago, I got out of a horrible long distant, serious, relationship with a long haired brunette beauty. She was danger on legs.. Every time we were together, I couldn't help but notice she had guys turning their heads to take another glimpse of her beauty. She had to be the most beautiful girl any guy could lay their eyes on. Everywhere we went, someone always went up to her asking if she were a model, and she'd say no. In all honesty, I knew that it would get to her one day. Eventually, it did. All the attention she got, she eventually took advantage of it. She took a serious model offering, and soon, I'd see articles and magazine covers of her. And soon, tabloids of her and her "secret boyfriend." She'd always tell me not to let it get to me, of course i'd act like it was nothing and I wasn't affected by it when I was with her, but when she'd leave, I'd do nothing but think, and feel alone. Whenever she left to a party, or a "meeting", I'd stay home, feeling lonely. I never felt lonelier. The boys had always had a bad feeling about her ever since she's let her fame get to her. They'd always ask me to go out with them for a guys' night whenever she was out to some party, but I'd always say no because I'd wait up til she came home to see if she was okay. Most of the time whenever she'd get home, the air would reek of alcohol. She'd stumble by the doorway, laughing words into my ear that didn't make sense. Sometimes I wondered why I stayed with her and wasted my time all those months, but it was always the look on her face every time she'd wake up in the morning, turn to face me, and whisper "i love you."    Other than those times, whenever she was with me, I wasn't alone. I'd feel the happiest I've ever been. It felt like all my worries were gone. The way her hair would blow in the wind, and the scent of her strawberry fragrance lingered the air. It was the first time I ever fell in love. Do you know how it feels like to fall in love for the first time? You're completely blinded and your mind is open to so many things. It's like she changed everything about how I looked at life, and when she left.. she changed me more, for the worse. When we reached our half year mark, that's when things started getting worse. I guess when we first started going out, I was stuck into the honey moon stage until we reached half a year.. and that's when it got bad. All those months before, I started shutting out all of the boys. Every time they wanted to go out, I'd tell them I was too busy with her. And it's not even that she wouldn't want me to go, because half the time she'd always tell me to, it's just, I was so caught up on her that I didn't wanna spend a moment without her.     It all started when she came home at two in the morning, intoxicated, her breath smelled of liquor, she stumbled and laughed, and when I'd try to help her, she'd tell me not to touch her. Instead, she waved out the door to her mysterious ride. It always seemed to be her ride. The same car every night, and it was odd because I never met the face that was blocked by the tinted windows. I never paid quite attention to it until that night. She was taking off her heels and stumbled onto the floor laughing. I tried to help her up, and she yelled at me. Practically almost bit my hands off.     "Don't touch me, Zayn" she tried to stop herself from laughing.     "Come on, let's get you into bed," I said as I grabbed her bag and her cell phone off the floor. Her phone rang once, I ignored it. It was a random number with no contact. Then, the number called again after ten minutes, and I seemed to see a pattern. "Who's calling you?" I asked her as she sat on the bathroom floor puking. She ignored me, and continued to puke. I placed her phone down on the bedside table. I helped her in the bathroom as I held her hair back. Her hair was perfectly curled tonight. She only does this on special occasions.     "Zayn, give me some space will ya?" she brushed me off. "I'm just trying to take care of you, It's my job babe.." I said as I grabbed a towel from the closet.     "Well stop making it your job. You're always up my ass all the damn time Malik. Lay off. I love drinking and going out because it gets me away from you," she laughed and it seemed like she didn't know what exactly she was saying to me. I knew she was only saying this because she was drunk.. but they say a drunk mouth speaks sober thoughts, right? I brushed it off. But she just kept saying mean things. Things I never knew she really meant.     The next morning, I tried to act as if I didn't hear all the things she said. When she woke up, she rolled over to face me, and I woke up by her movement. I looked at her, and she was staring at me. With a face of guilt. She was about to say something, but nothing came out. It was like all her words were choked up.     I didn't know whether I should've brought it up of not, but I decided it was best I didn't. "I'm going to make some waffles, you want?" I asked.    She looked at me with a look of confusion, like she was wondering why I didn't yell at her, or why I wasn't mad from what she said last night. I know she was drunk, but I also know she wasn't drunk enough to not know what she was saying to me. "Yes please," she smiled at me.    I went on, acting as if nothing happened, because it wasn't worth losing her over, even though I knew she wasn't happy. As the days went on, I could feel the love drifting, or at least, she was. Two weeks later after that night, she had her things packed, standing in front of the door, with boxes surrounding her. She looked at me, and she didn't even have to explain herself. I already knew what was happening. I was already expecting it, which was no surprise. It was bound to happen. I was so in love with this girl, but even the lads knew I wasn't myself at all anymore.    She kissed me one last time and the last thing she ever said to me was, "I know you'll meet someone who makes you feel like you're always on an adventure. Someone who appreciates you and all the care you have for them. I know they'll treat you better than I ever did, Zayn. Thank you for loving me and thank you for always being there for me. You'll always be in my heart, I love you," she said as she looked me in the eyes for the last time. I couldn't even try to fight for her to stay, because I already knew I lost this one. All I could say was that I loved her.    After that, I lived myself like it was an adventure, and I was reckless. I got into street racing, and the lads were always mad at me. I was always late to rehearsals, I developed an attitude, I stopped caring, and I always ditched them for my racing mates. I stopped when I realized how stupid I was after I almost got into an accident doing it when I was angry.    But today, I was really feeling adventurous. Michelle made me feel adventurous, so why not take her on a crazy adventure?     "Come, you'll need this," I said as I threw her Hailey's old helmet.     Her face lit up with excitement as if it was something so out of the ordinary for her.     We got to my special bike, and her face lit up even more. Like she had never seen something so amazing.    "Are we doing what I think we are?" She asked with excitement.    "You're with it?" I asked with a huge smile. I was stunned with the fact she was excited to. I haven't raced in a while but I thought it would be a great opportunity to try it one more time.    "Hell yeah!" exclaimed.    I sat on, "Hop on." She put on the helmet, and let me tell you, she looked stunning and rather sexy. Especially at the fact she was so excited.     We headed out as she held onto me from behind. We met up with my friends and the ride there was rather fun because of how Michelle was reacting.    When we finally got there, I pulled up beside them. Their faces were shocked.     "Wow, Malik is finally joining us after how long?" Tom said as he patted me on the back.     I laughed as everyone came to greet me. "Zayn! Let's take a flick!" Michelle said as she took out her phone and took a selfie of us. She was so cute.     We all chatted as we waited for the other people to show up to start.      "Finally! Someone showed up," Brittany shouted as she spotted at the car coming by.      I didn't pay any mind and doubled checked my bike before we started. The door slammed and I heard someone shout. "ZAYN, ARE YOU KIDDING ME MAN? ARE YOU REALLY DOING THIS RIGHT NOW? ESPECIALLY WITH MY GIRLFRIEND?" The familiar voice shouted angrily as it got louder as they came closer.     Crap. Harry.     I turned around, "look man, it's no big deal. Michelle wanted to come."     "No big deal?! Do you remember what happened last time? Do you really want to put my girlfriend's life at risk?!" Harry's face was turning red from how angry he was.     "Babe! It's no problem. I wanted to come, I thought it'd be fun while I waited for you to finish your meeting," Michelle said as she hugged Harry.     "Get in my car Michelle," Harry demanded.     Michelle's smile faded and she was quiet as she headed to his car.     Harry was so angry I could've sworn he was going to throw a punch, but he was breathing heavily, trying to control himself, trying not to disappoint Michelle.     "You know what, we'll talk about this when you get home Zayn," Harry said to me.      "Alright Mate," I said.      "Don't f**king 'Mate' me," Harry said angrily as he pushed me off him and headed to his car.      "Harry.. What is this?" Michelle said as she opened the car door and looked like she was even madder than Harry.     "Shit," Harry said under his breath.

Chapter Thirty-Five: Not This
(Harry's Point of View)    I parked my car as I heard screaming girls heading towards our way. I guess you can spot my car from miles away. I parked it in an area that wouldn't make the car very noticeable. "Ready?" I asked as I looked at the beautiful girl next to me put on lipstick. "Mhm," she smiled.    I knew it would be a very kind gesture to get out of the car first, and open the door for her, so that's what I did. Plus, it looked like she wasn't going to get out of the car unless I did that, so I had to do it anyways.    I got my keys, and put on my sunglasses, and got out of the car. I made my way towards her side of the car, and she smiled at me. I opened the door for her. "Thank you, Styles," she flashed me a smile. That smile. It was so beautiful, but I hated it with everything I've got.   We walked side by side, hoping paparazzi wouldn't find us, though, I wouldn't be so surprised if they did, due to her shiny shoes. Actually, I think you'd be able to spot her anywhere. Especially in her heels that made her almost as tall as me.   We made it half way towards the coffee shop before we were stopped by a scream. "HAMBER!" a girl shouted and pointed at us. At that moment, a crowd of girls came from the corner of the street, and ran towards us. I grabbed Amber's hand without hesitation and ran to the coffee shop. Amber stopped us to take off her heels, and we continued to run. I made a reservation to close the whole shop just in case something like this were to happen, and having connections and being part of the most famous boy band in the world right now, also helped.    We sat down at a table all the way in the back of the coffee shop, just in case. The waitress took our orders, and said she would be out with them as soon as possible. Which was true, because, once she left, they had people doing the order already, and within a ten minute time, our orders came back.    "So, we're here now Styles, and you seemed to have wanted me all to yourself because this whole coffee shop was rented out for you," Amber winked at me with her devilish grin. Now that we are here together, alone, well, besides the employees who are gawking over us, I really don't know where to start. I've said some words over in my head a few times and now that I'm about to say it, I don't know how to put my words together.   "Well.. I mean, we have this 'relationship' going on, and we know nothing about each other. I thought we should get to know each other a bit more, ya know?" I finally spit out. I kind of rushed my words, so I'm not sure if she quite understood what I was saying. She looked up at me from her phone, and gave me a smile. It was a soothing smiling, not her usual "I have something horrible planned out for you" smile. Then, it completely changed back to her sweet 'ole smile, that she always had when she was up to something.   "Well, didn't we get to know each other well enough that night at the hotel right?" she said as she traced a soft circle on my hand with her finger. Which sort of surprised me and I almost choked on my coffee that I was chugging down. It was a bit painful too, because it was piping hot.   "Excuse me?" I said appalled. "You heard me," she winked. I had a blank, yet shocked expression on my face. "I'm kidding," she giggled. Phew. I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. I looked around to see if anyone heard our conversation. But I mean.. if they did.. It wouldn't really matter because, well, we are in a "relationship" and people in relationships have sex, so that's normal? I guess I just didn't like hearing it out loud because it makes me stomach turn, and it makes me feel really guilty. And I guess I'm just a bit paranoid that Michelle might hear the truth, although, she's nowhere to be found right now. She's out with Zayn, and I really do owe him on this one.    "Where's your girlfriend, Styles? Shouldn't you be spending it with her, rather than me?" she said as she stirred her coffee. She tried to avoid eye contact with me. I observed her as she played with her spoon, and picked at a half eaten croissant in front of her. "Styles?" she finally looked up at me, and flashed me a smile behind her soft hair. I was somehow in a trance, and finally snapped out of it. "What?" I asked. "I asked, shouldn't you be with your girlfriend instead of me?" she repeated herself, this time looking at me, but not directly in my eyes. I wondered why she wouldn't look me directly in my eyes? Or should I just not bother to even wonder? Because if she did, I'd just think about Michelle because her eyes are same color brown as her. "Oh-" I began, "she's out with Zayn." She let out a laugh. "What?" I asked as I raised an eyebrow. "Nothing, it's just such a typical movie kind of thing," she sighed as she took out a notebook out of her purse. What did she mean? I stared at her again. Hoping this time I’d seem to understand. Michelle and Amber were two complete different people. Though, they did look alike, and have the same physical characteristics, they were two different people at heart. There was just one thing about them that was exactly alike; I was never able to read their minds. That’s what I loved about Michelle, though, it did frustrate me, and she had something special. I was never able to read her, which made me more interested in her. It made her special, it made her different. “What do you mean?” I asked her under my breath. She just let out a soft laugh and stirred her coffee even more. She moved a strand of her hair out of her face and placed it behind her ear. “Nothing, Styles, nothing,” she smiled and took out a little notebook out of her bag. She dug through her bag, which seemed like an endless black hole. “What are you looking for?” not to make it seem like I was too interested, but I was. She dug through her bag even more, and ignored me. “Huh? Did you say something?” she finally looked up at me. “I’m sorry, I’m just trying to look for my pen,” she said as she struggled looking for a pen that didn’t seem like it was going to show up. I just remembered I had a pen with me earlier, and it should still be with me. I remembered placing it in my back pocket after using it to write Liam a note this morning. I reached for my back pocket and realized I had it. “Um, I have one if you need it,” I said as I placed it on the table. “Ah, thank you,” she flashed me a smile. I just smiled. She spent the next ten minutes writing in her notebook. The pen danced on the pages. I felt like the room was getting awkward and I could feel the silence thickening in the air. I checked my phone to see if I had gotten any text messages, and I got one from my favorite contact, my princess. I unlocked my phone, which was of course, our date. Michelle doesn’t know the password to my phone, so it’s not like she told me to do that, I just thought it would be a quite nice idea to do. I read the text, and it was made up of emojis and a little short text. “Hey baby, Zayn and I are out already, let me know when you’re going to meet me up! Xo” with the company of heart and kissy face emojis. It made me smile, which caught Amber’s attention. “Styles can smile? Wow, I’m surprised,” Amber joked as she continued to write in her notebook. “And you write?” I laughed. “Yes, I actually do, it’s my favorite hobby,” she said with a serious but cheerful smile. She writes? I find that quite attractive to be fully honest. I love a girl that has the brains to write. What are you saying Styles? You have Michelle. I shook the thought of Amber off my mind. “I’m not as bad as you think I am Styles,” Amber started off, “okay, I know you may not have had the greatest impression of me, but I’m not always that bad. Yes, I understand that you regret that night so terrible, trust me, I didn’t mean for it to happen either, but it did. We can’t change what happened in the past. They’re just bad memories we learn from. That probably had to be the first time we actually weren’t so harsh on each other. It was great, you know. But it was a mistake. And yes, I understand that I may not be the greatest person you ever met, but I’ve been through way too much to be a nice person. I’m not that bad, but I come off as it. Do you know how it feels to have people step all over you? Would you have let people do it to you your whole life? I’ve moved on from all that, and learned that maybe, it was because I’ve just been so soft on everybody, that they took advantage of me. But you see, I’m not letting that happen before. Yes, I am human. I do have feelings. I do get hurt. And trust me, I’ve been hurt so many times before, even from stupid guys in bands. No offense-“ she said as she looked at me and gave me sympathetically smile. Amber was opening up to me, and this was a side I never knew I’d ever see.. that I thought never existed. “And I let them all use me, and it just made me a stronger person in general,” she said as she stopped writing and played with the pen by tapping it repeatedly on the table. After that, I began to think. Maybe I had the wrong impression of her this whole time. Maybe Amber really was a great girl. We had a long conversation and talked for which seems like endless hours. I checked my watch, and I guess I lost track of time. “Gotta go?” Amber smiled at me, but not with much effort. She seemed as if she didn’t want me to go, and it was as if I didn’t want to leave. “Yeah, sorry, I have-“ she cut me off. “Michelle? It’s alright. It’s not like we were on a date or we’re dating,” she laughed. This time, her laugh seemed like there was sadness behind it. “Uh-yeah,” I said as I put my coat on. “Do you have a ride?” I asked her as I pushed in my chair. “No, but it’s alright, I’ll stay here,” she said as she took a bite of the last piece of her croissant. “No, it wouldn’t be boyfriend-like of me to leave my girlfriend all alone,” I said slyly. She looked up at me and flashed me a smile, “I mean, I guess it wouldn’t,” she laughed and kissed me on the cheek, and at that moment, it seemed as if I saw a flash. I quickly looked around and didn’t see anyone but a waitress counting money at the front. “Shall we?” I asked as I put my arm out for her to hold. “Wow, such a gentleman,” she smiled as locked her arms with mine. “Thank you,” I said as I placed a fifty on the table. The waitress looked up and said, “No problem,” and quickly looked down. She looked quite familiar.. like a face I’ve seen a million times but couldn’t quite make out. “Jessica, we need help in the back,” said the manager. JESSICA! “JESS?!” I shouted. “Oh, Harry!” she said with a not-so-sincere smile. “I didn’t know you worked here? You should’ve said hi earlier, love,” I smiled at her, wondering why she hasn’t said anything before. “Oh, I didn’t want to bother your date,” she said with a grin. Date? Oh.. this did look like a date. “Hi, I’m Amber,” Amber smiled as she held out her hand for Jessica to shake. “Jess,” Jessica smiled. “I don’t see you around with Michelle anymore,” I said. “Oh, uh- hm. I’ve been busy, where is she anyways?” she asked, thinking of an excuse. “Oh.. ah. Well, she’s with Zayn right now,” I said. Her facial expression changed and her smile faded off her face. “Oh,” she said plainly. “Yeah, well, I’ve got to go,” she said as she pointed and made a gesture that her manager needed her. “Right, well it was great seeing you again,” I said as I hugged her. She smiled and went to the back. I checked my phone and got a picture message from Michelle. I unlocked it. She was smiling with a helmet on, in Zayn’s special car with Zayn at the driver’s seat with a helmet on as well. I hurried off and ran to my car. Amber running following me, “What’s happening Harry?” she asked. DON’T TELL ME HE’S GETTING MY GIRL FRIEND INTO THIS!
