FACTS

As I sit here chewing on the facts, I notice a vulgar taste in my mouth. I push my plate away as if the contents will evaporate solely because I disapprove. Now I’m hungry… starving, really. And I’ve waited too long to eat, so I’m stuck, feeling nauseous and empty. But it’s survival of the fittest and facts don’t change, so I scarf down what’s in front of me with my eyes closed and firmly decide that from now on, I’ll make my own plate.

It’s ok to swipe left because you don’t like their hair cut, it’s ok to not message someone back because they use the wrong form of ‘your,’ it’s ok to turn down a second date because he didn’t walk you to your car or because he doesn’t like country music or because he refuses to vote. Be picky, have standards, say no. This doesn’t mean that you don’t value other people, it just means that you value yourself more. This year, stop settling. This year, put yourself first.
