Withnail as a downward spiral, ultimately unavoidably tragic, and the fact that horatio's survival of the events in Hamlet,making marwood/horatio equally tragic. The idea that horatio has to outlive everyone within Hamlet, but marwood chooses to leave Withnail. Withnail immediately reciting the speech making the paralell clear and solidified his downward spiral- he will die and he has to, and the use of Hamlet makes the unavoidable tragedy apparent
