[Liyue gathering] + Glaze Lillies, Violetgrass & Qingxin (I was thinking they'd make flowercrowns together with them. ;w; Just two girls being cute together hehe.

The sun is unusually hot today, and Qiqi watches Lumine jiejie shade her eyes with her hand to survey their surroundings, and then follows suit curiously. When they had set off, it had been bright and windy, but now it is simply bright. Qiqi’s basket is half-filled with fresh flowers, picked on their way up the mountain path. There were some stalks of Violetgrass, chosen with care by Qiqi’s well-trained eye, as well as a few stalks of imitation Glaze Lilies, given to Lumine jiejie by a merchant in exchange for several trinkets from her adventures across the sea. Now they’re on the hunt for some Qingxin, but the more Qiqi climbs, the less she wants to look up into the sun’s blinding rays in an attempt to spot the white flowers.

As if reading her mind, Lumine jiejie suddenly detours to a grass patch and sits down, patting the empty space next to her in an invitation. Obligingly, Qiqi sits, placing the basket between them. With deft hands, Lumine jiejie begins weaving a flower crown, and wordlessly slips it onto Qiqi’s head with a small smile. Not to be outdone, Qiqi carefully strings together a small flower bracelet with small daisies mixed in, and offers it to her in exchange. They sit for a while in the shade of the mountain, content to let time stroll past in each other’s company.

"I'm almost done. Just two more minutes, okay?"

A soft hum fell from the Traveler's lips as she finished braiding the smaller girl's pastel purple locks. It was something she had done for her brother countless of times, apparent by her smooth and precise movements.

"ーー And voila! You're all set to go! Oh, by the way, I did something a little bit special this time~"

She just so happened to have plucked a couple of Qingxin flowers earlier, so she weaved them into Qiqi's hair to create a floral, feminine look. Every girl deserves to doll up every once in a while, no?

"Why don't you go show Dr. Baizhu and Changsheng? I'm sure they'll be shocked by how cute you look right now!"

Qiqi sits patiently, allowing her hair to be re-braided into two plaits by Lumine jiejie. It’s rare that her travels led her back to Liyue, so Qiqi has to cherish the few moments they get to spend together. Though hazy, her mind manages to muster up a similar scene, tinged with grey and flickering at the edges: a taller figure standing primly behind her, warm hands just as if not more gentle, carefully running a comb through her windswept hair. Faint laughter echoed in the room, but they did not drown out the sound of a grandfather clock ticking in the corner and her own feet kicking against the leg of the chair.

The smell of freshly-picked Qingxin flowers wafts past her nose, and Qiqi blinks slowly, returning to the present. Lumine jiejie gives her a pat on the head as she smiles and brings the plaits to the front, so Qiqi can see her handiwork. The white flowers have been woven through the ends of her purple hair, every petal carefully arranged just so to create the most perfect look. It’s clear that much thought went into the placement of the flowers, so Qiqi is careful not to jostle them as she slides off the stool and wraps her arms around Lumine jiejie’s waist. “Thank you. Qiqi will try not to destroy flowers.”

Following Lumine jiejie’s suggestion, she trots off into the pharmacy, gaze methodically scanning the waiting room for any sign of Dr. Baizhu. Just then, she remembers that he’d left a note saying he would be gone for the whole day. Well, Qiqi has already finished all her tasks, so she goes behind the counter, ready to serve the next customer, and patiently waits for her guardian to come back. Hopefully, the flowers won’t wilt by then.

With Lyney-gege staying close to her side, Qiqi approaches the water, still acutely aware of the way the sand shifts underneath her feet. The going is slow, compounded by her unfamiliarity in the situation—Liyue Harbour, despite being by the sea, has no such beach. The waves are gentle today, but a reluctance to get the bandages at her ankles wet means she keeps a healthy distance between herself and the approaching water.

Ah. Now she is in a predicament, because upon further observation, everyone else is wading ankle-deep with their buckets in hand, holding at an angle so the waves push the water into the bucket. Qiqi looks down at her city-intended shoes and not-waterproof bandages, and then at the sand, and then helplessly at Lyney-gege, who is still watching her like a hawk, as if there is a possibility that she will fall into the water from this far away.

If in crisis, ask for help. Qiqi knows this. Gathering her resolve, she offers the pail to Lyney-gege and asks, “Qiqi would like gege to help collect water, please. Shoes and bandages cannot be wet. Thank you very much.” Surely, since he’s been treating her so nicely and warmly, he will also do her one more favour that she will return the next time he comes to Liyue.

"...Where's the birthday girl~?"

She popped her head through the door of Bubu Pharmacy, relieved to see Qiqi sitting by the counter - and perhaps also a little disappointed in Baizhu for having her work on her special day. However, it makes it easier to deliver the birthday present she had prepared.

Lumine wasted no time to run over to the smaller girl and lift her into the air before twirling around - not too aggressively because she would not want her little talisman to accidentally go flying away.

"Guess what? I recently made a trip to Chenyu Vale and you will never guess who I encountered there...The legendary Cocogoat! I asked very kindly and it agreed to share some of its finest milk with me~"

In reality, the gift was just regular old coconut milk but hey, Qiqi does not have to know that, right?

"Why don't we enjoy some together? I baked some cookies to go along with them as well."

Qiqi experiences a dizzying five seconds, but enjoys the warmth that Lumine jiejie brings with her every time she visits. When she’s set back down on solid wooden flooring, she accepts the cocomilk with two hands, just like how Dr. Baizhu taught her, and slowly enunciates a sincere “Thank you, jiejie.” Briefly, she wonders if Lumine jiejie will also tell her where this Cocogoat is, so she can go and purchase more milk herself. Maybe, if it’s along a herb-collecting route, she can ask Dr. Baizhu if a detour every now and then is allowed…

Ah. She’s getting lost in her thoughts. Refocusing her attention on Lumine jiejie, Qiqi points to the door leading to the back of the pharmacy, where it’s quiet and devoid of curious customers. “Behind, empty. Can share cookies there.” And without waiting for an answer, she takes Lumine jiejie’s arm and tugs her over, then carries out three stools from the storeroom so they can sit and eat.

The cookies, although tasteless to Qiqi, are crumbly and filled with both literal warmth from being freshly-baked, as well as Lumine jiejie’s care. She is also regaled with unheard tales from Fontaine and Sumeru, as well as the many smaller run-ins with the countless friends Lumine jiejie has made during her travels. When all the food is gone, and Qiqi is waving goodbye from the top of the staircase, inspired by sudden bravery, she decides to raise her voice as loud as she can and say, “Invite Qiqi to explore next time, please!”

Qiqi looks around, then selects a spot of grass with a little less sun. She knows that if it gets too warm, humans will become sticky and uncomfortable, and it wouldn’t do for guests to leave with such an impression of Liyue. “Here is good. Picnic blanket first, then… must weigh down the ends. Qiqi remembers something about rocks.”

Peering to check the contents of the basket now on Kaveh gege’s arm, Qiqi finds a large thermos bottle of hot water, seemingly kept at boiling point by someone’s Pyro vision by the warning sticker, and three small canisters, labelled with the names of three kinds of tea leaves in neat handwriting. There’s also a teapot, marked with a RETURN AFTER USE tag, as well as two teacups. Ah, so it isn’t the traditional tea ceremony kind of tasting, then. Well, at least Qiqi won’t have to consult her journal every step of the way now, and let the tea grow cold with her slower speed of doing things. 

“Qiqi will go see if finches are around today,” she tells Kaveh solemnly. “Kaveh gege can help figure out what rocks have to do with picnics. And choose the first tea to try.” With the orders — well, requests — given, she trots off to look for her finch friends to show her guest.

One would be hard-pressed to call the package addressed to Qiqi that arrives on Bubu Pharmacy’s doorstep unassuming. Wrapped in a red-checkered paper reminiscent of a certain someone’s clothing, it opens with a burst of confetti, revealing a second box within. This one holds a variety of Fontaine’s local plant life, from the plentiful Marcotte flowers, to the round Lumidouce Bells, and even a magician’s signature Rainbow Rose among many others. Carefully lettered onto a card signed with the visage of a familiar cat are the words, “Happiest of birthdays, dear Qiqi! May yours be a blessed one.” It seems Lyney may have been a bit overzealous in his picking, though. The box is positively overflowing with plants.

"Qiqi! Package!" The pharmacist-on-duty yells upstairs, and Qiqi dutifully trots out to receive it with outstretched arms. The box, if it could be described in one word, was loud. Not noisy, but bursting with bright, vivid colours, so unlike the more muted tones of Bubu Pharmacy and the herbs it sells. The confetti scatters with a loud pop, and Qiqi watches as the multicoloured pieces flutter onto the floor, wondering if she has to clean it up later.

Inside the box, there is another, smaller one, practically crammed with all manner of Fontainian plants. It’s a very thoughtful gift from a very thoughtful friend, that’s for sure – Qiqi knows Dr. Baizhu is already considering sending her back to Fontaine on a dedicated herb-picking trip, and this will save them some time in terms of experimenting with new tonics – but she can’t help but wonder if Lyney-gege may have forgotten that such a small box can only fit so many things.

Still, she carefully takes out the flowers, and begins to sort them into the empty drawers behind the counter, carefully consulting her notebook so she doesn’t give anything the wrong label. Finally, she retrieves the greeting card and attaches it to an empty page with two bits of sticky tape the pharmacist quietly offers, taking care to make sure that none of the corners are folded. In her to-do list, she adds to the very bottom: mail Lyney-gege a thank-you card.

“Okay.” Qiqi takes Lumine jiejie’s hand and trots alongside her. “Qiqi can keep up. Don’t worry.” She thinks about Lumine’s returning well-wishes to her, and wonders if it means cocogoat milk will also fall from the sky, like in the stories she hears people tell their children. It’s a pity her own Vision can’t produce the milk, really, but one can’t have everything in life. At the very least, she knows that there are candy sellers this time of the year, so maybe she can get her hands on some milk candy…

“Qiqi wants milk candy,” she announces to Lumine. Then, after a pause, she adds, “Dr. Baizhu will like one more mortar-and-pestle set.” She’d heard him discussing inventory with the other pharmacists, and while she could barely remember most of the conversation, something about the efficiency of preparing crushed herbs seemed to have stuck in her memory. And…what else was there? Qiqi knows that people buy gifts for their friends during Lantern Rite, but her only friends are the finches that she sits with on her off days. Maybe she’ll find a merchant looking to clear seed stock in preparation for the new year…she looks around for one, but only sees glittering lanterns and exquisitely-crafted clothes and ornaments. Well, no matter. At the very least, she can help Lumine pick out gifts for some of her own friends, if she wants. “Does Lumine jiejie…want anything?”

A warm feeling bubbled up in her chest when the other wished her well for the upcoming year, expressioning softly as she slowly extended one hand to pat Qiqi on the head.

"Thank you, Qiqi. I hope this year will be filled with nothing but good things for you as well. ...Oh, and of course, lots of delicious 'cocogoat' milk~"

"Say, are you free right now? If so, would you like to accompany me to the Harbor? There are so many fun booths to check out. Or we could buy a nice souvenir from one of the vendors."

As Liyue's trading hotspot, the Harbor was always bustling with energy. However, during this time of year, even more people would gather there to enjoy the festivities. Not all of her friends would be able to make it to Liyue, so she had already compiled a list of all close friends whom she wanted to buy a little gift for.

"We should get Dr. Baizhu a little something as well, don't you think? I'm sure he would love to participate in the festival as well, but he's stuck at the Pharmacy just in case somebody gets hurt or falls ill during the Lantern Rite."

Crouching down ever so slightly, she would hold out her hand towards the shorter girl.

"Here. We should probably get hands so you don't get separated in the crowd. Tell me if I'm walking too fast, okay?"

Qiqi dutifully crosses the road with Kaveh, then thinks about his answer proper. She supposes there’s an art to appreciating the mundane things in life, too. She’s seen many people who visit the pharmacy with empty, hollow eyes, with no more love for everything that life has to offer. She wonders if she gives others that impression, with her blank face and stiff movements. But then again, she loves finches and feeding finches and petting finches and her job at Bubu Pharmacy. So it must be ok.

“Qiqi will show you the finches next time,” Qiqi says. “Finches don’t move when Qiqi comes.” And maybe the smell of tea will attract some to them too, when they finally settle at a good spot somewhere beyond the harbour. As for the sketches of finches… Qiqi pulls out her journal again and turns to the correct page, then offers it to Kaveh. Kaveh’s hands are big, so he can hold the book open with one hand, unlike her. Then he will have another hand free to check directions, and so on. “Here are Qiqi’s drawings. Qiqi can take the basket while Kaveh gege looks.”

[WORSHIPPING ADEPTI]

The herbs procured, dried and ground into powder, will without a doubt produce a fragrance most pleasant to the senses. Though the adepti may not be able to smell it from here, he does nonetheless make sure to procure the most favored aromas for each of them. Even a small and ultimately symbolic gesture should be performed thoughtfully, lest its meaning be lost.

"Thank you very much for the help with the herbs, Qiqi," he nods to her with a smile as the last batch is brought to him. "I know this was a big order, and the Bubu Pharmacy's help is most appreciated."

He smiles. "Perhaps you can consider lighting up some incense yourself later, as well."

Qiqi heaves the basket over the countertop and trots underneath the flap, turning her into the pharmacist-on-duty and Zhongli-xiansheng into just a regular customer. She retrieves the list of herbs from the bottom of the basket and carefully reads it again before pulling out sheets of paper to weigh and pack them properly.

“Qiqi…is doing her job.” Qiqi de-stems and plucks out petals with practised efficiency—or, well, as efficiently as a jiangshi with stiff limbs can, anyway—and crushes into a fine powder, which she then tips into a neat mound on the first sheet. “Ten Qingxins, powder. Done.” A mix of smaller herbs are crushed and blended together, then packed into a second sheet. “Incense mix, powder. Done.” Soon enough, the full basket is reduced to five neat paper packages, which is then placed back inside and pushed towards Zhongli. “Order complete.”

Qiqi bends down and opens the first drawer, with all the invoices for upcoming orders. She finds the correct slip of paper and hands it to Zhongli, adding, “Bubu Pharmacy…will bill Wangsheng Funeral Parlour. Please pay on time to avoid extra fees.” She pauses, trying to remember the last part of all the words every counter worker has to say. “Thank you for choosing Bubu Pharmacy.”

As Zhongli leaves the building with everything he needs to offer incense, Qiqi makes a note in her journal to cross the terrace to offer some of her own later in the day.

Qiqi blinks up at the blond architect. Truth be told, she can’t remember why they paired up anymore, but he seemed like he was interested in getting to know the wide variety of Liyuen teas. And as a member of Bubu Pharmacy, she knows all about tea (and what herbs go well in them, of course).

“Qiqi…draws finches. Notebook is for memory. Qiqi’s memory…is very bad.” She flips to her to-do list and shows it to Kaveh, pointing at the half-done checklist. “Today, Qiqi goes on a picnic with you. Tomorrow, Qiqi collects more Violetgrass for Baizhu.” She closes the notebook with a loud thud and moves to walk slightly faster, so Kaveh doesn’t have to slow down as much for her stiff legs.

Then, remembering what she was taught in conversation class, Qiqi asks, “What does Kaveh gege draw and…write about?”

Qiqi circles once before landing with a soft thud a safe distance away, packing up her glider in practiced motions. She peeks in her basket, checking that nothing fell out during the flight—notebook, check; jueyun chili for xiangling jiejie, check; several starconches for the Bubu Pharmacy stash, check—and finally turns her attention to the two strangers staring very curiously at her.

“This one…is Qiqi.” Qiqi introduces herself dully, just as she was taught by Baizhu. The smaller stranger is about her height, with sparkling eyes and cute ears resembling that of a bunny’s. The taller stranger has the same aura as Zhongli xiansheng—the one that commands authority, even when no words are spoken. “Be careful when climbing. Rocks…can be slippery.”

Then, she notices the qingxin. Pointing to it, Qiqi pulls out her notebook and flips to the correct page, then begins to recite: “Qingxin is a small white flower that blooms on mountain tops and cliff peaks. It helps to reduce heatiness and is brewed in tea. Most people add sugar to sweeten the otherwise bitter taste.” She slowly approaches, then sets the notebook and basket down and bends so she is level with the flower.

“Pluck it like this.” Carefully, Qiqi grips the stem near the ground with one hand, then braces herself with the other and tugs gently, easing the flower out of the soil. She shakes it lightly, bits of soil tumbling off the exposed roots, then offers it to the smaller stranger. “For you to try.”

[PROSPERITY TOSS] - A common tradition to signify the end of the year and the birth of a new one is to create a bowl of fruits, vegetables, fish, and other fresh foods, and to feast. Many restaurants host these during the Lantern Rite to bring us together.

[RED ENVELOPES] - Though much more common, a sign of good faith and friendship often comes in the form of a red envelope. Containing a small sum of mora, each envelope is a gesture of amity.

[FEED THE KOI] -  Koi represent harmony and wealth in Liyue, and a common tradition is to visit when the moon is at its highest. A small sacrifice, in the shape of some crackers or bread crumbs will often please these simple creatures.

[ WANGSHU INN ] our muses rest at the wangshu inn, enjoying some of the best food and relaxation that liyue has to offer!

"hmm, what do you want to order, qiqi?" klee rested her chin on the palms of her hands, kicking her feet as she sat across from her bestest friend. though enthusiastic and practically buzzing with excitement, the table both girls sat at was empty━━save for two menus and two, different coloring pages. "don't worry about paying! the nice lady said it's on the house. not sure why though, but free is free and food is food!"

Qiqi slowly flips through the menu, careful not to let any of the pages, loosened by age, fall out. Wangshu Inn, despite the relatively small size of its kitchen, offers a wide variety of food, and she doesn’t have the heart to tell the visiting girl that she can barely taste most dishes. Still, she’s been taught to be hospitable to guests, so she quietly sneaks out her notebook and takes a peek at a copied list of Liyue’s top foods, as selected by famous food critics from all over Teyvat, found on a noticeboard in the harbour.

“Qiqi wants Come and Get It,” she eventually tells Klee, pointing at the corresponding listing on the menu. “Big bowl full of many yummy things. Good for your health.” After deliberating for another moment, she adds, “And Almond Tofu for dessert. Afterwards, Qiqi will show you the golden finches nearby.”

A while back, she had discovered that the birds gathered near an old, dilapidated hut with a view of the water, and everything turned golden at sunset. Qiqi thinks Klee will like the fiery wash of colour as night creeps up on Liyue. And maybe, next time, they’ll be able to travel even further, perhaps to Qingce Village, to see more sights.

There is a new commission from the Adventurer’s Guild—in exchange for Mora, vendors are looking for as much Noctilucous Jade as possible. Conveniently, the caves are near the cliffs where Qiqi collects Violetgrass for Bubu Pharmacy, so she puts her name down as one of the adventurers accepting the commission.

Qiqi waits for a particularly sunny day before setting out on the herb-and-jade-gathering trip. Since Violetgrass can be hard to spot against the murky grey of the cliffs, the more sunlight, the better. Before setting out, she collects an empty basket from under the pharmacy counter and fills it with water and her trusty journal.

“Order: collect twenty-five Violetgrass,” Qiqi announces to the air. She waits for a moment, then sets off, marching stoically towards Yaoguang Shoal.

The Violetgrass is gathered by the afternoon—since this is a route Qiqi has taken many times, she knows the locations much better than when she first started, and barely has to refer to her journal. After checking the quality of each plucked flower, she marks the task as complete in her journal.

Qiqi stretches for a bit and gives herself the next order: “Order: collect two Noctilucous Jades.”

Here, however, is where things get tricky. Qiqi knows that the jades can be found in caves behind the cliffs, but as to how to get there, there aren’t clear instructions. Katheryne had offered a map, but it was the same one that Qiqi already owned, one that only showed what was on the surface. That would not be of much use underground.

Oh, well. There’s still half a day left. Qiqi clambers down to ground level and starts walking, looking out for holes in the rock that can lead her further underground, her basket of Violetgrass bumping gently against her legs with every step.
