You're addicted to loneliness and                     desperation. It's the strongest emotion                    you've ever known, so your subconscious                    tells you that it's your destiny.

It is my wish for you and all of us that the bullshit stops soon. You know. Whatever unnecessary horrors that happens to be for you

As soon as Argyle is back to now, Seth pulls his hand back in order to be able to speak again. 'It's fine. Not the first time, then?'
He tries to be reassuring, hoping his expression comes across that way. 'Good, right?' At least it wasn't the first try at making it, the memory of his parents trying to struggle through compliments still embarrassing.
--------------
Argyle nods quickly, giving a small laugh in spite of the crying. "It's really good, yeah..."
He sniffles, taking a deep breath. "...My mom used to make it sometimes for my dad," he offers as explanation. "I haven't had it since she..." He trails off.
Argyle tilts his head curiously at the word, which is strange to him, and yet somehow distantly familiar. "...What's a 'kimchi?'"
Mid-bite, fork halfway to his mouth, Seth pauses as he stares at Argyle across the cafeteria table. The question had caught him off guard, the younger man's lack of knowledge unexpected. Had his dad ne- no, what he knew of Plad made that answer an obvious negative.
Finishing that possibly last bite quickly, Seth pushes the plastic container toward Argyle in invitation. 'Here, try it.'

Crying was hardly the reaction Seth had expected, and for his part he's both confused, concerned, and startled by it. With Argyle distracted he reaches out to try and pull the bowl back while keeping an eye on his younger - classmate? no - friend's face.
As soon as Seth is able to speak he starts by getting Argyle's attention, waving a hand where he'd be able to see it above the table. 'You go somewhere?' is the cautious question, keeping that distant look in mind while he asks.
Some sort of something, good or bad Seth didn't know, but definitely something. Wasn't often he had that reaction to his cooking, and definitely not often in public. At least it wasn't untasted rejection, that was something.
-------------
It takes a moment for Argyle's eyes to refocus on Seth's waving hand, and then he looks startled, ripped back to reality from that distant place he was a second ago.
"S-sorry! I'm sorry..." He wipes at his face, trying to process what just happened. "I... I've had this before. A long time ago."
He takes one shaky breath, another. Calm down, calm down...
...A barely audible sob slips out, more tears falling against Argyle's will. "I'm sorry... This is so embarrassing..."
Argyle tilts his head curiously at the word, which is strange to him, and yet somehow distantly familiar. "...What's a 'kimchi?'"

Me, when I'm busy and have to do something I don't like: Godamnit, I could have been writing.
Me, when I actually have the free time to write: Yeah, now is the time to everything but that.

The smell was what had originally interested Argyle. It smelled good, spicy and garlic-y, and different than anything else Argyle had tried. There was also something oddly familiar about it, but he couldn't place it exactly. All he knows is that it smells like it has a strong flavor, and Argyle is always excited to try food with flavor.
He gives Seth a grin and pulls the container a bit closer. "Thanks!" He grabs his own fork and proceeds to investigate the new food. Looks like... lettuce? Maybe not lettuce... some kind of leafy plant like that, anyway... And it has a sort of fishy smell? He can't tell if there's meat in it or not... Fascinating.
It smells even more familiar up close, to the point where he's wondering if he's had it once and forgotten.
He takes a small experimental bite, and almost drops his fork.
Home. A lifetime ago. A million years ago, at least. Not unlike the climatic scene in the academy award winning film Ratatouille, Argyle finds himself transported to a time and place he'd almost forgotten.
His mom, working in the kitchen, Argyle helping her mix the... cabbage, that's it. Mixing the cabbage and the other vegetables, putting it in a jar... It was a surprise for his dad's birthday, a traditional dish from his homeland. He remembers the dinner, how touched and delighted Plad was, the joy and laughter at the table, and Argyle's little bowl of rice and noodles and kimchi.
He's too far away from the present to realize he's crying.
Argyle tilts his head curiously at the word, which is strange to him, and yet somehow distantly familiar. "...What's a 'kimchi?'"

But when someone's gone              and you're the primary keeper of the memory—             letting go would be a kind of murder,             wouldn't it?

He looks at them thoughtfully. "...I'm not sure about out, but I could give you a lovely evening in, if you like. It's the least I could do."
“I want to be taken out on a date. It’s been a while.”

All i wish for 2024 is every creator to start that project they’ve been thinking about, write those fics they have been planning, make messy art, and to have as little burnout as possible.

Been a hot minute since I've done anything with my Galra OC, Cairis! She's a member of the Galra race from Voltron: Legendary Defender.
Here - in this fabulous commission done by JOSHUA FORTIER - my girl is standing at the ready! She's a reporter, ready to get a scoop... and just PRAYING that there's nothing too dangerous nearby!
(She might be a teensy bit of a coward. Or maybe her mun has played too much Lethal Company. Who knows.)
At any rate: Cairis, ladies gents and whatevers!

"Nice characters are boring" to YOU. I love characters who no matter what, will always have genuine love for humanity in their heart. Characters who dance and laugh and sing with sincerity. Characters who believe in others, and are willing to extend a helping hand to people when no one gave them the same luxury. Characters who have gone through so much but believe, no matter what, that humanity and life is something beautiful and worth protecting
