He’s Not a Lizard, But a Dragon
Chapter 14 - A Guild Staff Monologue (Lana)
One afternoon when the sun spread its warm rays.
A beautiful boy resembling an angel opened the door to the adventurer’s guild ‘Black Horse Dream’.
Pure white hair like a snowfall, glossy fair skin, and crimson eyes with a noble sparkle like jewels. White glistening scales were scattered on his cheeks and arms. His face looked unbelievably beautiful as if God had sculpted it with all his might.
Everyone was captivated by him, regardless of age and gender. Today, I came to know that overwhelming beauty had nothing to do with gender for the first time in my life.
I was Lana, a low-rank employee of this guild.
“I want to register in this guild.”

All the people being all “skskskks Chat is so dumb falling for the wax/sentimonster Ladybug” and using Ladybug recognising fake Felix as proof.
The situations are different.
1) Marinette already had a heads up something was off thanks to the video.
2) Marinette does not have the same background as Adrien. Aka, she is not love starved. Aka, she is not going to grasp at every little scrap offered and want to believe it is real/sincere.
3) Ladybug has had moments where she is soft and flirty with Chat. There is foundation there for him to work with.
4) Marinette has it half-convinced in her head that Adrien can’t love her thanks to all her anxiety. Chat, on the other hand, leans towards being hopeful. In other words, Marinette is expecting to be let down and looking for the “ha, gotcha” moment.
5) nothing. I just wanted 5 points.

AU Yeah August
first day: bed-sharing, Marichat
I‘m posting the ao3 link in the comments!
@auyeahaugust
——
Beautiful bluebell eyes widened at the sight of a wounded Chat Noir fighting another akuma, alone and without any help from the police. Her hands clenched into fists and she stood up, unable to sit any longer to see her best friend in that state. Fortunately, these akumas happened only once a month, yet they left a lot of damage to her dear friend. If his chances were good, then he would recover quickly enough to fight them.
And Marinette came to hate that. Adrien already had enough on his plate as it was. Modeling, homeschooling, photoshoots. You name them.
A sidelong glance at her computer told her after shedding her worried thoughts that the fight was finally over, Chat winning again (luckily, otherwise Marinette wouldn’t know what she was going to do).
Breathing a sigh of relief, she got the first aid kit when she heard a knock on her window.
At this time and under these circumstances, it could only be one person - a person whom she had just eagerly awaited since the akuma had first appeared.
"Come in, kitty, I'm glad you're here."
She made an effort to make her voice sound carefree, but failed miserably. Inwardly, she grimaced and waited a moment. Waited until she heard a thud and turned around jerkily and saw her best friend lying on her bed.
Chat Noir, the superhero who had a kind heart, never abandoned anyone and always cared for others, collapsed on her bed.
His last energy reserves dwindling, he couldn’t even say hello to her.
The view in front of her pulled painfully at her heartstrings. Marinette slowly climbed the ladder to her bed, sat next to her best friend on the mattress and looked at him silently. Her heart contracted heavily in her chest as she watched his motionless form. A shaky hand found its way to his wild, sun-kissed hair and brushed through his soft strands. A contented sigh was heard from him at the contact, and she smiled with relief that she could at least bring him some peace.
"Marinette," Chat murmured much later, after the sun had set, the moonlight dipping his suit into a beautiful white.
"Yes, kitty?"
A green-glowing eye opened and looked at her. Her smile widened and she poked his nose with her other hand.
"Thank you, Marinette." Now the other green-colored eye opened and he stared intently at her. "Thank you for being here, for being with me."
"Adrien." Marinette blushed.
"You don’t know - you can’t image - how much I need you, you are the only source of comfort that I get, that I want."
Marinette's cheeks turned crimson as she touched his forehead.
"What's wrong? Did you get a fever?"
Chat shook his head as he merely grinned up at her.
"Why do I have to have a fever when I just say thank you?"
Marinette looked around in embarrassment, forgetting every word she wanted to say when he woke up. Her eyes fell on the first aid kit and she realized with a start that he was still injured.
Chat mentally followed her train of thought and said, "Nah, I don’t need it."
"But are you not hurt?"
Instead of answering, he wrapped his arms around her body and pulled her towards him.
"Adrien?" She asked, wondering what happened to her dear friend.
"Hmm?"
"Are you okay?"
"No, but I'll be again.“ He chuckled. "When you're with me, I can breathe freely again."
"I feel that way, too."
His nose touched the hollow of her neck.
"Nice to know that I'm not the only one."
His voice vibrated against the skin on her neck, leaving a trail of goosebumps on her body. Her one hand, still in his hair, went through his golden locks again and she could feel his body relax under her.
"Marinette." His voice sounded tired from where his mouth still touched the base of her neck. Marinette swallowed hard, not immune to his charm and his sensitive side that only she got to see.
"Yes?" she squeaked, the ability to make a whole sentence long lost since he pulled her into his arms.
"Can I sleep here? I don’t want to go home."
"The answer to this question will always be yes, Adrien."
"Can we stay here like this? Please?"
As if expecting a negative answer, his grip tightened around her torso.
"Y-yes, of course."
He kissed imperceptibly, very gently, her neck with a quick touch of his lips.
"Thank you."

AU Yeah August Day 4: Immortal
AU: Plagg and Tikki both have a ‘perfect match’ and those partners will have the same lifespan as their kwami.
————
Marinette wrapped her cold hands around her mug and slowly slipped from it. With a thick blanket around her shoulders, and her favorite winter pajamas underneath, she shouldn’t have been cold. But she was.
A light thump alerted her to the fact that she wasn’t alone. Marinette turned her head to see Chat crouched on the railing. He didn’t smile, didn’t greet her happily, didn’t even look at her. His kitty ears and tail both drooped, and his shoulders were slumped.
“Hi,” Marinette said softly.
“Bonsoir,” Chat said, equally quiet. “Sorry to intrude.”
“You’re not intruding.” Marinette stood up and stepped closer to him under the guise of leaning against the railing.
“You’re too kind, as always,” Chat said, but he still didn’t look at her and he still didn’t smile and it was just too much.
“What’s wrong?” Marinette asked, deciding it was best to be blunt. She could ask that now, right? She’d never expected for her civilian self to become friends with Chat, yet somehow it had happened anyway.
And besides, she thought she already knew what was wrong. Chat had confirmed during their last patrol that he’d had the same conversation with Plagg that she’d had with Tikki. They hadn’t had time to talk about it yet, though.
“What would you do if you found out you were going to live forever?” Chat asked, confirming her suspicions.
Marinette closed her eyes and sighed. “I don’t know,” she admitted. On the one hand, it was exciting, touching and exhilarating to know that she was Tikki’s perfect match. There would never be another Ladybug; she and Tikki would literally be together forever. As soon as Marinette hit her peak, something Tikki estimated would happen in Marinette’s early twenties, that was it. She would stop aging. She’d be immortal.
On the other hand, it was absolutely terrifying to think she’d out-live everyone she loved. Her parents and grand-parents, Alya, Nino, Adrien... how could she hope to have a future with him now? How could she ever have kids with him, knowing what she now knew? How could she do anything?
At some point Chat was going to be all she had. It would just be the two of them and their kwami... forever. The realization made Marinette feel even colder. Her hands shook as she sipped again at her tea.
“I don’t know either,” Chat whispered.
“Why the sudden question?” Marinette asked, turning to look at him.
Chat shook his head. “Just wondering,” he said, because of course he couldn’t share all of his woes with a civilian. She wasn’t even supposed to know about kwami, much less the concept of a perfect match.
“Well,” Marinette said slowly, “it sounds like that knowledge would be pretty hard to come to terms with. I think... I think I’d have to make myself focus on each day instead of dwelling on the future.”
“But how do I do that?” Chat asked. He turned to look at her for the first time, and she ached when she saw the fear in his eyes. The uncertainty. The apprehension. The worry. All emotions mirrored inside her own heart right now.
“Maybe Ladybug would know,” Marinette suggested, holding her mug out to him. As much as she wanted to help him, she knew it wasn’t Marinette’s place. This was something only Ladybug and Chat Noir would understand.
Though at the same time, as Chat reached out to take the mug and their fingers brushed, she suddenly realized that the time for their identities to be revealed had suddenly drawn much closer. Tikki and Plagg couldn’t expect them to deal with this revelation separately on their own. That way lay madness. This barrier between them had to come down for them to cope.
She exhaled a frosty breath and gave him a tentative smile. “Perhaps... you should ask her.”
“Yeah,” Chat said, an odd look on his face. “You’re probably right. Thanks.” He sipped from the mug.
Marinette leaned against him and dared to rest her head on his shoulder, clutching her blanket around her own shoulders. It occurred to her that this was probably the first of many nights she and Chat would eventually spend together.
The thought finally sparked a bit of warmth in her chest.
They stood there until Chat finished the tea and handed it back with a whispered, “Thanks.”
Then Marinette, glancing at her phone and noting the time, said, “You should go home and try to sleep. It’s almost 1am.”
“I won’t sleep. My room is too empty,” Chat said. He stretched, lifting his arms over his head. “I’m just gonna keep patrolling.”
She frowned at that. He looked tired. “You can sleep on my chaise,” she said impulsively. “It’s pretty comfortable.”
His eyes widened. “Seriously?”
“Of course. Come on.” Marinette moved over to her window. Her offer wasn’t purely altruistic; she’d sleep better herself knowing where Chat was tonight.
After a moment of hesitation, he followed her in. He’d been in her room before, but this time he didn’t look around with his usual curiosity. He sat on the chaise and she gave him the blanket she’d had wrapped around her shoulders and her Ladybug doll, the blanket still warm with her body heat. He immediately burrowed into the blanket, Ladybug doll held close. Like any cat, Chat loved heated clothing.
Marinette shut the lights off and went up the ladder to her bed. She got comfortable, clutching her Chat Noir doll to her chest, and rolled over to look. All she could see of him now was a few tufts of blond hair sticking out of a blanket burrito, but she could hear him breathing so that was okay.
It would have to be okay.

“What’s got you down, Mon Chaton?” Ladybug says, kicking out her legs from the strut of the Eiffel Tower that they’re sitting on and holding her feet against the Paris skyline. “We did good today. Akuma went down, nobody was hurt, no property damage—”
“Yeah,” Chat says, curling up, holding his knees against his chest. “And I nearly killed you again.”
Ladybug halts, holds her feet up for another few seconds, then lets them drop. “Yeah, you did,” she says. He’d been brainwashed by the Akuma again, and she’d had to fight both of them at once. She gently lays her palm on the steel toes of his boots, rubbing with a small smile. “You took a hit for me, and we made it out okay.”
Chat sniffles.
“Oh, Chaton,” she murmurs, scooting over toward him and leaning her side onto his shins, reaching up toward his face. To hold him. To caress him. To—
He pulls away, and she can see that his face under the mask has gone splotchy red. “Carapace wouldn’t have turned,” he says, quietly.
Ladybug raises an eyebrow. “What?”
Chat holds up a claw—his Cataclysm hand. “I’ve been—I don’t know why Fu picked me,” he says. “I’m supposed to defend you, but…”
“But nothing,” she says, squeezing his bicep. “You do defend me.”
“Really?” Chat snaps. “Better than the guy who actually has the power of defense?”
“Chaton…” she murmurs, her eyes narrowing. “Where is this coming from?”
He bites his lip, refusing to meet her eyes. “I… thought it was just the two of us,” he says. “At first. It made sense to send us both out.” He closes his eyes, blowing air out through his nose. “But there’s so many other Miraculi. And… I just…” He swallows. “Why didn’t Fu send out the Turtle to begin with?” he says. “Or the Monkey?” He flexes his fingers, looks down at his claw. “They’re actually useful against Hawkmoth and they don’t risk him getting both of us at once.” The corner of his mouth tugs upwards. “All I can do is break stuff. And be a liability.”
Ladybug covers her mouth, horrified. “Chat…” she whispers, but he isn’t done.
“I know you see me as your partner, and I appreciate that.” he says. “I try so hard to live up to it, but—I just… Maybe it would be safer for you if I wasn’t. If you had someone else.”
“Chaton—”
“Don’t tell me you haven’t thought about it!” he snaps. “How much more useful being able to disrupt an Akuma’s powers might be? Or to have someone who can tank for you without having to worry about fighting them?” He throws his hands in the air. “I don’t—I just wanted to be useful…”
“Roi Singe is our age!” Ladybug yelps.
Chat blinks, flicks his eyes toward her, confused.
Ladybug crosses her arms over her chest. “I just learned he’s someone I know,” she says. “He’s our age but he still wears Velcro shoes because he never learned to tie them.” She grits her teeth, turns her soft smile onto her partner. “Do you really think he sounds like a great partner?”
“Still more useful than me,” Chat grumbles.
Ladybug shakes her head. “No,” she says. “Chat, the number of times I’ve relied on you to win—”
“You only rely on me because I’m the only one there!” he says. “If you had someone else—”
Her fingers wrap around the bell attached to his neck, yanking him downward, forcing him to meet her eyes. “Just—forget the powers,” she says. “Okay?”
“…Why?” he says. He’s transfixed, his green eyes locked on her like a cat on a laser.
“I can’t trust anyone the way I trust you,” Ladybug whispers, feeling the words squeeze out of her chest as she says them. “You—Carapace will always put Rena first. Roi is… well, not bright. I can rely on them sometimes, but…” She sighs and looks away, feels the tightness leave his muscles as her eyes leave his. “Nobody else sees me the way you do, you know that?” She releases his bell, waves her arm over Paris. “To everyone down there, I’m Ladybug. Can do no wrong. That’s what the team sees because… because that’s what they have to see.”
She hears Chat’s slow, unbalanced breath behind her. “But… you are Ladybug,” he says.
She feels a chill at his words. “Not all the time,” she murmurs, rubbing her arms. “Chat. Minou. You were—you were the only one who was there, that first day. The—” She chokes a bit on her next word. “The day I failed.”
“You got back up, though,” he says, hushed.
She shakes her head. “No,” she says. “You picked me up.” She tilts her head to look at him. “Chat,” she says. “I’ve told you before I almost gave up being Ladybug. Did I ever tell you what changed my mind?”
“One of your friends was in danger,” he mutters, digging his claw into the rooftop.
“That’s why I put the earrings back on, yeah,” she says. “But I was going to give them back right after anyway.” She shoves his shoulder. “You’re the one who convinced me to keep them.”
“Yeah, but…” Chat draws his knees into his chest. “That was over a year ago. You don’t need me anymore…”
She rolls her eyes. “I have been borrowing your courage since day one,” she says. “Still am.”
“What about—”
“What about nothing,” she interrupts. “Being Ladybug is… the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.” She bites her lip, staring into the streets, watching a young couple dance together in the sidewalk, laughing under the streetlights. “I’m responsible for the safety of an entire city, and all my friends, and school, and all of my other commitments, and sometimes…” She shrugs. “Well, sometimes it’s too much.”
Chat sighs. “I know,” he says, sounding like a kicked puppy, and oh sweet Tikki does she want to beat the crap out of whoever made that a normal part of his inflection. “I know I’m not the most professional, and I make things harder on you—”
“Missing the point again, Chaton,” she murmurs, wrapping her fingers around his hand.
He looks up at her, shocked, and she smiles back at him. “If not for you showing me the joy in this,” she says, “if not for your—your sense of wonder, I think…” She reaches up with her free hand, nervously twists one of her bangs between her fingers. “I think I’d have cracked months ago.” She tilts her head. “As long as I have you,” she murmurs, “this isn’t so bad.”
Chat says nothing—his mouth is agape, but he’s not even bothering to hide how stunned he is.
“So… yeah,” she says. “Maybe the Turtle or the Monkey would have more useful powers here. But… but they’re not you.” She squeezes his hand. “Maybe it’s not the powers that need balance,” she says. “Maybe it’s just us.” She lifts his hand, places it on her chest. “Paris needs me to protect them, and I need you to keep me sane.” She reaches up, flicks his nose. “That,” she says, “is a very important job, you know.” She smiles. “Nobody else can pun quite like you do, after all.”
He raises an eyebrow. “Wait,” he says. “You like my puns?”
Ladybug leans in with a grin. “Don’t tell anybody,” she whispers, “but I groan because I appreciate them.”
Chat’s head jerks backwards. “But… you always say—”
“I’d be fine with it if you didn’t insist on distracting me in battle!” she growls teasingly, jabbing him in the chest with a smirk. “Rest of the time? I’m all ears!”
“I, uh…” He looks away, clenches his fist. Unclenches. “They actually… they’re not for you. They’re for me.”
She raises an eyebrow.
He closes his eyes. “They stop me from thinking about how scared I am,” he says.
Ladybug covers her mouth. “Oh.”
“A-and, uh, I mean, I can stop! If you, if you need me to, but—”
Ladybug stops him with a hand on his calf. “But if you need to,” she says, “then by all means, keep punning.”
He jerks, breath shooting out of his nose in relief. “Thank you,” he whispers.
“Of course,” she says, turning back to watch the man in the street below swing daringly around a streetlamp like a pirate, prompting his companion to burst into giggles at the sight. “What are partners for?”
