It's fanfiction it doesn't have to be perfect it doesn't have to be accurate this is a hobby you're doing this for fun it's okay if it isn't perfect and polished you're doing it for fun [talking to myself in the mirror]

🟢 You are still a writer even when you haven't written in a while.
🟢 You are still a writer even when you feel like you aren't writing enough.
🟢 You are still a writer when you feel like your work isn't good.
🟢 You are still a writer when other people don't like your work.
🟢 You are still a writer when you aren't published.
🟢 You are still a writer when you only have works in progress.
🟢 You are still a writer if all you write is fanfiction.

Yes, your worldbuilding is thorough, your geography meticulous, your plotting elaborate, and your characterisation nuanced, but answer me this: is there a fucked up little guy?

posting fics you "wrote" with ai on ao3 shouldn't be allowed. they just shouldn't
the last stance i saw by ao3 is that "its still a fanwork so we have to preserve it" but like.. No. no. that is not a fanwork, that is a fanlazy. a fancheat. it's plagiarism soup. no work was done, no fan actually made anything.
chatgpt is not a fucking author and if you use it to write for you then you aren't either.
idc if you're tagging it so it's clear it was ai written. you shouldn't be posting it there at all. if you want cute little prompts filled fill them yourself. if you're, for some fucking reason, just curious what the ai would say?? yeah that's still a you problem and no one else wants a part of it.
ai "art" is not art
ai "fic" is not fic
the information that these programs use takes from other actual creators. knock it the fuck off

Y'know, I see a lot of posts urging people to comment on fics, so I just want to say, to all the people who do comment, and especially the long commenters:
thank you.
Long comments can be time-consuming. They can be difficult to write, but you leave them anyway!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who comments.
You are the highlight of fanfiction writers' days.

posting niche fic on ao3 is like releasing a small creature into the wild and hoping it survives and finds sustenance

Random writing thought: the best stories are often the ones that only you could have written — but also the ones that you could only write at this one moment.
I couldn't write All the Birds in the Sky from scratch now if I tried. But the me of 2013 couldn't have written The Prodigal Mother either.

my sister got a book for christmas on how to care for tarantulas alongside the tarantula supplies (she's wanted one since she was 8, and she's 15 now) and basically it appears to have been written by an AI.
She realized quickly that the book was riddled with errors, repetitive and badly written, and after some investigation found that it was self published using a website that offers AI tools to "help" you write your book
What a disgrace.
