Rein Sanction • Mariposa (Sub Pop, 1992) “Rein Sanction was formed in the summer of 1981 in Jacksonville, Florida. The original line-up featured Mark Gentry (vocals, guitar), Brannon Gentry (drums) and Ian Chase (bass). Chase was a neighbor of the Gentry brothers. The band was founded during the early teenage years of its members; the earliest version of the band was heavily influenced by contemporary acts such as Joy Division and U2. The band's style soon changed after Mark Gentry started to study jazz and classical and was exposed to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Hüsker Dü.[3] Rein Sanction debuted with a self-titled 12-inch EP in 1989.[4] In 1991, the band released its debut album, Broc's Cabin, on Sub Pop. The record was produced by Kramer, the founder of the record label Shimmy Disc. Its follow-up, 1992's Mariposa, was produced by Jack Endino. Both records failed to receive commercial success.[5] Rein Sanction disbanded in 1993;[6][7] according to bassist Ian Chase, the band broke up "due to health concerns."[8] Rein Sanction reunited with a new bassist to release a self-titled album on Souldier Records in 1996: the record was billed as Mark Gentry & Rein Sanction.[5][9] The release was accompanied with a tour.[5]” Wikipedia #reinsanction #subpoprecords #jackendino #bobmcpeek #mysonicarchive #nowspinning #cdcollection (at CDMX) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn7wUOTuM2i/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Walt Mink • Miss Happiness (Caroline, 1992) “Underheard but not underrated: Those who heard the debut of one of the best live bands anywhere had their minds melted. Alas, like many great bands after the post-Nirvana label feeding frenzy in the 90s, their albums were neglected and lost in the digital black void.” A.S. Mitchell Froom • Dopamine (Atlantic, 1998) “From Mitchell Froom - one of modern music's most innovative producers (Richard Thompson, Suzanne Vega) and musicians (as a member of Latin Playboys) - comes a breathtaking debut album that finds the studio impresario creating an expansive yet intimate collection of cinematic soundscapes with the assistance of some of his most talented friends (Suzanne Vega, Sheryl Crow, Mark Eitzel, Los Lobos' David Hidalgo and Louie Perez, Soul Coughing's M. Doughty and others).” Tower Records #mitchellfroom #davidhidalgo #suzannevega #markeitzel #sherylcrow #mihohatori #mdoughty #stevedonnelly #louieperez #jerrystahl #romsexsmith #markfeldman #tchadblake #mysonicarchive #nowspinning #cdcollection (at Mexico City, Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn4-QNRuJHf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Leonard Cohen • Songs from a Room (CBS/Sony, 1969/2016) “The recording sessions for Songs From a Room began in Hollywood in May 1968 with David Crosby as producer.[1] That didn't work out, and the album was eventually produced in Nashville, Tennessee, with producer Bob Johnston (two of the tracks from the Crosby sessions are included as bonus tracks on the 2007 remastered version). Johnston and Cohen had wanted to work together on Cohen's first album, but the studio had assigned Johnston elsewhere.[2] After his experiences with Crosby, Cohen was not keen to continue the project, but after speaking with Johnston, he agreed to carry on as Johnston was prepared to work on achieving the spartan sound Cohen considered appropriate for his songs after the disputes he had with John Simon during the mixing sessions of Songs of Leonard Cohen.[3] At the time, Johnston was best known for producing Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Simon and Garfunkel. As Anthony Reynolds observes in his book Leonard Cohen: A Remarkable Life, "Since at this point in time Cohen was something of a hybrid of all of these acts, Cohen moved from the Chelsea in New York City to Franklin, Tennessee, where he lived on a farm 30 miles from Nashville itself. Cohen recorded some demos on the actual farm and otherwise immersed himself in a version of the country life." Billie Holiday • Lady Sings the Blues (Verve/UMG, 1956/2013) Released in December 1956, Lady Sings the Blues is Holiday’s last recording for Clef records. “Taken from sessions taped during 1954–56, Lady Sings the Blues features Holiday backed by tenor saxophonist Paul Quinichette, trumpeter Charlie Shavers, pianist Wynton Kelly, and guitarist Kenny Burrell. Though Holiday's voice had arguably deteriorated by the 1950s, the album is well regarded – in a 1956 review, Down Beat awarded the album 5 out of 5 stars, and had this to say about the co-current book: Lady Sings The Blues is Billie Holiday's autobiography [...] she tries to get the reader on her side of the mirror, so don't expect a three-dimensional view of the subject. The book was written with William Dufty, assistant to the editor of the New York Post [...] Seldom in the book does she talk about her singing[.]” Wikipedia #billieholiday #clefrecords #ververecords #mysonicarchive #nowspinning #vinyljunkie #vinyligclub #vinyligcommunity #vinylcollection #vinylcommunity #vinylclub (at Mexico City, Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn4bFc1OdQK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
