Truthfully, it hadn’t been Landon’s fault at all. She’d spent the last month with only her colleagues, her dog, her brother, and Lucy and Nate. Partially. But Landon, her oldest friend, had practically disappeared and when she saw the familiar head of hair turn around the corner Charlotte felt a grin spread across her features. Without a second thought, Charlotte ran head first towards him, not stopping until their shoulders collided and she stumbled backwards, laughter escaping her lips. “How dare you! Of me, all people!” Charlotte cackled, peering up at Landon, “See you finally made your way back to town, huh?”
Tumblr media
Landon was slowly adjusting to England time again after his return back home. After spending a month in the States, he had found himself on their time schedule. Feeling a bit jet lagged, he decided it best to grab a cup of coffee before his meeting later in the day. He needed a pick me up and as much as he hated coffee, he knew that was what would definitely do the trick. He was only a block away when he went to turn the corner and collided with someone else. He quickly recovered his balance and rushed to their side. “I am terrible sorry, I wasn’t paying attention. Oh dear, I hope I didn’t hurt you. Are you alright?”

Smiling at his complement, Charlotte bowed her head slightly before ushering him towards two seats at the end of the bar, away from most of the commotion. “I never take no for an answer.” She admitted lightly, arching an eyebrow as she took him in once more. “Long day, though? C’mon, tell me about it. I’m curious now.” She began, pausing only to order a scotch on the rocks.
Tumblr media
Haven tiled his head and quirked a smile at the woman’s words. “S’been a long day.” In truth it’d been a long year but he didn’t feel like sharing his life story. “You’re not gonna take no for an answer are you?” He smirked lightly as he finished off his drink. He tapped the table for a second before giving her a small nod. “Far be it from me to turn down such a nice offer from a lovely lady.”

“Well, i said so, didn’t I?” Charlotte laughed, grin pulling as he called her ma’am only to fall into a scoff, bright eyes finding their way up to him. “Excuse me! I am not bossy! I just know what’s best for people!” She defended quickly, trying her best not to let laughter bubble past her lips. Still, as her own words hit her once more, she couldn’t help but shake her head and give in. “I know how that sounded but -- y’know what, well, whatever, Bradley.” She sneered lightly, although her smile remained on her lips as she reached her hand for his to shake it firmly. “Well, Bradley - I’m going to call you Brad, alright? - name’s Charlotte. I might be bossy but I’m not picky - usually - so please, whatever you want. S’on me.”
Tumblr media
“Would you? Really?” His tone was entertained by this stranger’s attitude and he figured it was just what he needed, someone fun around to keep his mind out of all of his troubles. “No ma’am, although I have the feeling that you’re very bossy and will tell me what to do all night anyways” He chuckled, taking the seat next to her with a smile. “Bradley, nice to meet you. What are we having tonight?”

Charlotte nodded, a small smile forming on her lips at the mention of his mother. She’d always gotten along with Margaret Kindell. Truthfully, she’d gotten along with his entire family - save for Alex, although it wasn’t as if she hadn’t tried. His coarse nature had hardly deterred her, though, and she’d been sure to go out of her way to gain the mans approval. She wasn’t exactly sure if she’d gotten it, but for all intents and purposes, Charlotte liked to believe she had. Not that it mattered, of course. It was the past - apart from Nate, who was her friend, and Ethan, her colleague, she had no business bugging the Kindell’s anymore. Still, it didn’t stop the almost instinctual urge to send a birthday card which she quickly dismissed. Partially.
“A year ago, back home, I lost Jeremy for a week. I was working for a friend of my dads so he let me bring him to work. Jer would just sit under my desk, real quiet and calm, but one day something caught his attention and next thing I knew he was running out the front door and clear across town. I chased him all the way to the edge of town before he disappeared into some trees. I searched for days and there was nothing until one morning I woke up and he was just... there. Dirty and curled up in our backyard. We lived at least four miles from the closest point of where I’d lost him, but somehow he found his way back. So, I guess what I’m saying is, even though I’m no dog whisperer, I’d bet you aren’t just trying to find him. He’s trying to find you too.” She explained in a flurry, brows furrowing as she recalled the ordeal, and she hoped it would provide him with some sort of comfort.
As she turned the corner, Charlotte pulled him along, her small smile growing as she heard his question. “When Henricks spilled coffee on me it wasn’t because he wasn’t paying attention - well, it sort of was, but he had a very good reason not to be. He seemed upset so when I asked what was wrong, he told me his wife had just gotten out of the hospital and he was going to have to go out of town for a few days for the department and didn’t have anyone else to care for her. So I offered. Ellie’s really sweet.” She hummed, voice matter-of-fact as they crossed the street and came to the front of the park. Turning her body to face him, Charlotte kept her hand in his, thumb running over the back of his hand as she watched him. “Alright, do you and Pluto come here at all? Any places you like to take him around here? A tree or something? He’s probably going to gravitate to places that are familiar, you know, so we should start there.”

I went home this weekend. The words caught her off guard, brows furrowing slightly as she turned her attention away from Ethan and to the flyers in her hand. It was a thick stack, half of it would be enough to cover the tiny little beach town head to toe, but Charlotte understood his thoroughness. If it had been Jeremy she very well might have hired a plane to fly around with a banner of her dalmatians face. Still, she couldn’t help but replay his words. Ethan had never been one for spur of the moment road trips, and she couldn’t help but wonder why he’d decided to head home. And more importantly, why he chose Henricks to watch Pluto over her.
Of course he didn’t ask you, you ninny. You barely speak when you have to speak to each other. Christ, Charlotte. A voice chastised but Charlotte silenced it as quickly as it had appeared. It didn’t matter. What mattered was finding Pluto, and helping Ethan, and figuring out the silent burden she saw weighing on his shoulders. “I met him. He spilled coffee on me last week.” She said with a gentle smile before shoving the flyers into her messenger bag, eyes turning back up to Ethan.
“We’ll find him, yeah? I promise. C’mon, I’ve got an idea.” She said confidently, and before she could think better of it, Charlotte slipped her hand in his, dragging him away from the post and towards the park. “Henricks lives right at the corner of Oak and Abbey. About a block from there is the park, I’ll bet anything Pluto headed there first.” She explained in a flurry, her line of thought slipping only for a moment as she took in how familiar his hand was in her.

“Good, ‘cause I would have fought you on it.” She hummed, a grin on her lips as she tottered back to her seat at the bar, ordering a round of shots without a second thought, and then patted the seat next to her. Eyes turned up to take in the stranger and her small grin only grew. “You just going to stand there all night or what?” She poked, an introduction soon following without a second thought. “Name’s Charlotte, by the way.”

Friday nights were almost like a tradition for Brad. To just hang out and enjoy after a long week at the hospital was a nêcessity, more than just something he did for his own enjoyment. He had been drinking with some friends but they all had differents plans and Brad was considering actually going home instead or visit a nice blonde that had been in his mind lately, but he wasn’t fully convinced. He had walked towards the bar, realizing that he needed a few more shots before deciding what to do, when a girl talked to him. “Well I’m not going to say no to that”

Charlotte shook her head. The blonde was nothing if not stubborn, or so her brother had kindly reminded her almost every day since she was eight years old. Stubborn wasn’t necessarily bad thing, though. At least, Charlotte didn’t see it as such. So, grabbing the mans hand, she dragged him towards the bar. “I’m sorry, but you look like hell, at least let me buy you a coke or something. Plus, I could use the company. A coke for some meaningless chatter, sound good?”
Tumblr media
Haven didn’t know what made him go to a bar, especially since he worked in one. He’d spent half the night politely letting down anyone who hit on him and the other half of the night sitting in his corner of the room staring at his drink blankly until it was finished. He was startled when a pretty blonde woman came up to him and offered him a drink. “Uh, no, that’s ok. I’m fine, thank you though.” He didn’t want to be rude but he didn’t want her to spend money when he could buy his own drink.

“Fine by me.” Charlotte mused, a grin on her lips as she slipped her arm through the woman’s. Charlotte had seen her around a few times since moving to Eastbourne, usually in her place of business at the flower shop. Charlotte very rarely indulged in buying an arrangement for herself, but she liked to browse, and by the fifth time she’d visited that week she’d only felt like it was the sociable thing to invite Jessie out for drinks. “How was work?” She mused, slipping into a seat on the bar as she ordered herself another whiskey, eyes turning to look at the brunette.

Jessie saw Charlotte across the bar and waved at her. It’d been a while since they’d gotten together but she was happy to meet with the blonde. It was Friday and she was off work the next day. That meant they could stay out as late as they wanted and do whatever they wanted. When she finally met up with her Jessie grinned. “Charlotte!” She went to wrap her arms around the girl. She didn’t get along with many females but…Charlotte was sweet. She liked her independence. Jessie could tell it mattered to her just as much as herself. “Alright, alright. I’ll get next round!”

Lips pulling down at the news, Charlotte’s eyes filled with sympathy, and without missing a beat she pointed towards an arrangement of white flowers. “Lilies. Get lilies.”

Maia looked over at the new companion, sliding the charm on her necklace back and forth in a habit of nervousness. “My aunt’s funeral. She just passed.”

Ride or Die ➝ Adventure Soulmates
nathankxndell
Charlotte bounded up the steps to Nate’s flat without an ounce of regret and a heart full of hope. She’d checked in every day since he’d been gone, only to be faced with silence after she rang the bell for at least ten minutes. She’d even made up a dance while she waited by hopping from one foot to the other. She must have looked nothing shy of crazy to his neighbors but per usual, strangers gazes never really bothered the blonde. All she cared about was if the door would finally, finally open to reveal the familiar and friendly face she longed for.
“Naaate!” Charlotte whined, body leaning onto the wooden face as one had knocked repeatedly, the other holding down the buzzer in order to come together and create - arguably - the most annoying symphony known to man.
“Come ooon! You’ve gotta be home by now!”

Karaoke Nights ➝ Sunshine Squared
lucykindell
“Come on, it’ll be fun. I promise it’ll be fun.” Charlotte cried, grabbing Lucy’s hand even tighter as she dragged her through the shabby bar doors. As she entered the room, though, her usual grin faltered slightly. Rather than the lively image she’d imagined Charlotte found herself face-to-face with a crowd that could rival the exuberance of a funeral. She’d dragged Lucy right out of town, coming to the compromise of a karaoke night only if the space was free of familiar faces. And she’d definitely made good on her promise, Charlotte thought.
Rather than college students in their early to mid twenties, Charlotte found herself face to face with middle aged men clad in leather grunting over beers and pool, beards that could send Dumbledore himself running for the hills with shame. The stage in the front of the bar was untouched, dust and dirt draped over the wooden platform. Honestly, the hoards of motorcycles outside should have set Charlotte off but now that they were here, she wouldn’t back down now. “You think this crowd’ll have any requests?” She leaned over to whisper in Lucy’s ear.

Charlotte didn’t really need anymore flowers. After all, she had a habit of stealing them off the bushes near her office on campus, but as she past the shop on her way home she couldn’t stop her feet from backtracking and entering the aroma filled room. Fingers brushing over an arrangement of peonies, Charlotte’s head turned towards the woman as she heard a soft sound escape her. “Who’re they for?”
Tumblr media
Maia looked down at the flowers near her feet. She had no idea what flowers to get for the funeral. It was all so complicated. She would rather just have no funeral, but it’s what her aunt wanted. “I have no idea what I’m doing,” she whispered, rubbing her head with her palm.
