I work 2:30-11 Sat&Sun and am suppose to be 3-7 Mon but they are closing outpatient reg early so they asked me to work 7-3:30 bc they are short on 1st & were closing out patient reg early and my scheduled cab for 11 didn't get to me till 12 and the lady told me every 15 when I called "it'll be 10 min" and I'm now on day 8 of 9 bc they wanted me to get an extra week of training before starting my official shift I was hired for and the only saving grace is my 6 hours of over time for last week, time and a half tomorrow and the cab driver who picked me up feeling so bad after I explained why I was so tired I was crying and the fact I had explained it to the lady and she still only called him 10 minutes prior that he gave me a free ride.

And how is your stomach doin' with all the fries?” He didn't need to deal with a sick and puking kid one top of one who needed a shower and a change of clothes, so he didn't want to fork over my fries without knowing how he was doing with the ones he already had gotten.

“I don't need you barfin' all over cause you got to over zealous with finally havin' a proper meal.” Proper meal was a loose definition of what he was feeding him, but it was enough food to fill a small stomach so it counted.

Leonard handed him the drink instead of fries after he answered the question, thinking that he should definitely have a break even with how slowly he was handing him the fries. The idea of a kid this young sleeping on cardboard boxes or in a park instead of under a roof? At least as bad as it got him and Lisa had always had somewhere to go, even if Lewis hadn’t been the best option before they had ended up staying with Mick for awhile.

“Me and my sister got a place, what do you think about using our couch for the night?” There were extra rooms he could offer, but he figured he’d get into the fact that they had the rooms and that he was welcome to one would be better left till after he got him to the house.

A lot of people who lived this way would find it suspicious if they were suddenly offered a semi permanent place to stay, but offering a night? Not quite as odd even if this kid knew enough at his age to be suspicious.

Nettie reached up and took the drink. He poked the straw in his mouth, staring up at Leonard with big, wide yes as he drank, and the fizz tickled into his throat. He giggled. “Bubbles.” 

He hadn’t had soda in ages. So many ages! He reached his hands up to give the paper to go cup back to Leonard, and then reached one of his hands open for more fries. “Does that count as a question?“

He was finally resigning himself to the fact that he was going to get absolute shit when he got home, the looks Lisa and Mick were going to give him. Not to mention Lisa was never going to let him live it down even after he managed to find somewhere for the kids to go.

“Uhm,” Nettie said. He munched happily on the fries, not thinking too much about the answer. There was food, so it didn’t even really matter all that much.

“There’s this place, and they always get stuff sent to them, so there’s lots of cardboard and cardboard is sort of soft. So I sleep behind there sometimes.” He pointed down the road, although it was down that way and then there were turns to get there. “But when the red haired lady is there, then I don’t cause she’s mean, when the many with curly hair is, I do. And then if its the lady, then I go to the park. But then the park has dogs, so sometimes I don’t.”
