A lot of people are radicalised by suffering, which is a valid and sadly all-too-common experience. But you wanna know what really radicalised me? Softness. Joy. Freedom. I spent so much of my adolescence deeply sad and uncomfortable in spaces that weren’t right for me, navigating a body that didn’t feel like home. Despite many many privileges, and lots of moments of genuine happiness, I often didn’t overall enjoy my life. But then I got gender-affirming surgery. I moved into my own modern, clean, comfortable flat in a friendly, walkable city full of nature and beautiful buildings. I started being able to take care of myself. I keyed into robust local social networks of people who shared my interests in nature, creativity and ameliorating the world. And I am deeply, thoroughly content. It has been incredibly radicalising to realise that, contrary to what I thought for so long, it is very easy for human beings to be happy if their material and emotional needs are fulfilled. So alongside my joy there’s this constant simmering rage. I deserve all the good things I have now, sure. But not any more or less than anyone else. The children being bombed deserve this too. So do the homeless people being moved on by police outside my local supermarket. So do the people starving in famines, imprisoned by immigration systems, brutalised by their employers, their families, the state. All I can do is fight for a world where everyone has these things. It’s a choice not to share them equitably.

The Iranian Regime is going to execute rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests of Jina Amini’s murder by the regime in his songs.
Iranian activist Elica Le Bon says, “Iranians in the diaspora picked up on the fact that the regime tends not to execute people who become known to the international community. We have seen many examples of prisoners that were either released on bail or had their sentences commuted through our “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media, using hashtags to garner attention for their causes, and even before social media existed, through getting the stories of political prisoners to international media outlets. Once reported on, and once the eyes shift to the regime and the reality of its pending brutality, realizing that the action is not worth the repercussions, we have seen them back down and not execute. For that reason, this is part of an urgent campaign for readers to talk about Toomaj as much as you can, using the hashtag #FreeToomaj or #ToomajSalehi. Every comment makes a difference, and if we were wrong, what did we lose by trying?”

the entire message of this multiverse trilogy is that in this story, the lonely spidey doesn't have to be lonely
Pav was not alone in facing his first big threat because the spideys who were there didn't want him to be alone. And when they manage to actually save everyone (because multiple spideys were sharing the load), the entire city cheers. Imagine how Gwen felt, knowing how she's perceived in her own universe. Even for the other spideys, that must've been a novel experience--you just don't get uncontested gratitude when you're one person and you can't save everyone.
there's community to be found in the culture you grew up in & the people you meet during common-goal acts of heroism (solutions that wouldn't have worked for a lone hero works when there are three spideys trying to stop a helicopter)
look at peter b parker, he was lonely as fuck but mentoring miles changed him, he's not alone anymore
the classic spidey narrative is important because sometimes it is just you bearing the weight of the world--no one can lessen your grief for you, and no one else can take your leap of faith for you
but there's something special about spideys getting understanding and community in miles's story, it's such a nice thing to happen to these isolated heroes, and the joy thereof is infectious

‼️‼️
If you're having trouble keeping up with what's going on in Palestine because of US news coverage of university protests, here are some articles you can read and a video you can watch:
youtube
While CNN & all the other mainstream media try to paint the university protests as "pro terrorism" (which they're not, they're literally anti-war protests.) Palestinians are being slaughtered by the minute.
Please don't stop speaking about Palestine.
