      zhongli and rukkhadevata were most certainly friends ;  not only are their respective nations so close to each other’s ,  but there’s also the factor of knowledge there too that i believe would make both enjoy each other’s company .  not only that ,  but i also think that her wisdom and the way she was kind would remind him of guizhong ,  so not only does that bring him some clarity and comfort ,  but even without meaning to ,  also protectiveness over her .

      after her death and the birth of lesser lord kusanali ,  he became distant once more .  not only did her death in general affect him as a friend of his ,  but the factors of who she reminded him of made it a bit more bitter at the end of the day (   i don’t mean there were any romantic feelings there towards rukkhadevata ,  if anything i think towards her there would be more of a familial bond as he has with the other archons in my opinion ,  she was family to him .  however ,  her death caused him to grieve for two people instead of just one ,  if that makes sense   ) .  he did have intentions to speak with the new archon ,  but at the time it felt too soon ;  and what was weeks turned into years ,  and then hundred of years   —   needless to say ,  he did not speak with her still .

      now that he has more time ,  he would certainly want to ,  though ;  wishes to somehow have a same approach as the traveler ,  and try to speak to the dendro archon just as they spoke with him .  and began a new friendship with nahida ,  as zhongli .

      were he to know what things the akademiya has done to her ,  though ?  honestly ,  i am not sure of how he would react to the news ;  but that sense of protectiveness would still be there (   even more now with the new information we have ,  that rukkhadevata and kusanali are the same person somewhat   ) ,  so you can only imagine .

the windows   //   tell me ,  do you look inwards or out ?  you’re a dreamer who feels just a little too much about things just a little too out of reach .  there’s a longing trapped inside of you ,  to be a part of the nature that you look over every day ,  and you resent the way people look through you with that same longing .  they don’t get it .  you watch them in the garden ,  see them get absorbed into nature little by little .  they don’t feel it as strongly as you do .  still ,  when a new tenant moves in ,  a baby with them this time ,  you have to look inside as the house moves to absorb them before nature can .  it hurts what remains of your heart ,  your still beating heart that feels just a little too much .

            surprisingly to some perhaps ,  but the least favorite enemy group to zhongli are the treasure horders .  he believes relics and treasures should remain in it’s final resting spot ,  and that it doubles it’s beauty in them .  he would much rather appreciate it in it’s home ,  than on a random person’s shelf .  of course ,  he doesn’t voice these thoughts out loud often ,  but if you know him well enough ,  he might tell you this little opinion of his .
