'Ride Wild' - For VMF17 from Chairman Ting on Vimeo.
'Ride Wild' is our piece done for the 2nd Vancouver Mural Festival (Aug 3 - 11th). It's measured 98'-7" wide x 15'-8" tall by the side of Swiss Bakery (143 East 3rd). This mural took us 7 days (some half and some full) to finish. Our mural was generously sponsored by Native Shoes.
The concept behind this mural is based on a fun portrayal the modern commuter’s psyche in Vancouver. We are often faced with the dilemma of whether we should drive or cycle to our destination, but deep down we are often caught longing to be riding freely on our bicycles. This piece will hopefully help remind us to break out of our reliance on cars and ride our bicycles as free as wild rabbits.
Special thanks to friends who unconditionally helped us make this mural happen! Big shout out to Kenzo Mechaneck, Venustiano Davidson, Ephraim Perez, Albert Law and Nicola Herrmann.
Also big thanks Annette Siu from the Swiss Bakery for constantly feeding us with her amazing pastries and baked goods! We are forever thankful!
We’d also like to thank Myles and Joseph Bronson for always coming by for good chats! And everyone that came by to say hi including Justin R. Maggie, Leia, Nic and Gus, Alex B, Holly, Peter E., Leanna and Cadence, Roy, Candice and Elliot, Mark and much more!

Tales On Tyres: Riding The Baja Divide from Bombtrack Bicycle Co. on Vimeo.
The "Baja Divide" is a new but already established 2735km long off-pavement bikepacking route (created by Lael Wilcox and Nicholas Carman) starting in San Diego, USA and following the length of the Baja California Peninsula all the way to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.
It crosses the Peninsula several times, connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. On it ’s way cutting through beautiful backcountry deserts and major mountain ranges. Using already existing roads and tracks, of which more than 95% are unpaved, the Baja Divide leads into the remote wilderness of Mexico’s Peninsula. This often requires the rider, to carry 2-3 days of food and up to 12 liters of water. The condition of the route varies, between graded dirt roads to rocky or sandy jeep tracks and this makes the riding tough and sometimes technical. It ’s essential to pack light and make use of the warm, dry climate between November and March.
Finishing the Great Divide in the USA, Franzi & Jona not only wanted to explore more bike packing routes on their way to South America, but also to ride something even more challenging. Excited to test out their comfort zones and physical boundaries, they started the Baja Divide at the beginning of November, as one of the first ones ever riding the route. It took them more than seven weeks to ride from San Diego to La Paz, the covered daily distances varying between 50 and 80km.
The riding was tough, beautiful and breathtaking in every way. They enjoyed being surrounded by vast desert landscapes and days, passing without coming across towns or many other people. The Baja Divide is mainly about being in the backcountry, but nonetheless specially in the south part of the route, they passed through small Spanish mission towns, with an abundances of history, palm trees and charm, basic fishercamps or bustling highway towns, Which give you the opportunity to refill your resources and enjoy some worldy comforts. The Baja Divide felt raw and bold to them and they can only recommend to take on the challenge and ride it. Be aware, that this Route requires special equipment and some previous bikepacking experience, for more detailed information head over to bajadivide.com
Tales On Tyres:
In 2012 the German couple Franzi and Jona (“Tales on Tyres”) quit their jobs and went for a global hiking tour starting in New Zealand before crossing to India and Nepal. Soon they got tired of walking, organised some bikes and continued on two wheels through Iran and Mongolia. After working in Canada for a year to replenish their funds, they started their current trip zig-zagging from Alaska to Patagonia. After completing “The Great Divide” they realised the bikes they were using couldn’t withstand the conditions they were encountering – and that’s how we came on board. We met up with Franzi and Jona in the Sierra Nevada in September last year and provided them 2 of our Beyond+ bikes. After getting them loaded up Franzi and Jona headed south, to take on the “Baja Divide”. Currently they ride the Andes with Destination Patagonia.

Note: Video updated September 2014
“A bicycle is a two wheeled, human-powered vehicle, with one wheel behind the other.“
The first track of the bicycle goes back to 1493 where Leonardo da Vinci made a sketch of a very advanced bicycle. This is not proven to be true though. So is there many uncertainties on when and who invented the bicycles improvements along it's history.
00:05 – 00:12 1790, A Frenchman named Comte Mede de Sivrac says to be the first to attach two wheels in each end of a piece of wood. This creation is referred as “Velocifere” or “Celerifere”
1817, The German Karl Drais von Sauerbronn built the first steerable bicycle, the “Draisine”. He’s particular model is not shown in this animation though.
00:23 – 00:25 1818, In England, Denis Johnson improved the draisine. He’s model, “Dandy Horse” had bigger wheels and was lighter.
00:30 – 00:32 1839, Scottish, Kirkpatrick MacMillan is believed to be the inventor of the first pedal-driven bicycle, inspired by the locomotive.
00:34 – 00:36 1866, Pierre Lallement’s velocipede “The Boneshaker” is one of the first bicycles with pedals attach to the front wheel. He’s fellow landsman Pierre Michau invented a similar model around the same time and it is unclear who really was the first to put pedals on a wheel, although it is quite certain it’s from France.
00:38-00:39 1869, The Frenchman Eugene Meyer has the credit for inventing the first high-wheeled bicycle, the famous “Penny-Farthing”. English, James Starley did a lot of further improvements on the high-wheelers and in 1870 he invited the “Ariel”.
00:43 – 00:44 1880-85, G. W. Pressey invented the “American Star” bicycle followed with the “Pony Star Bicycle” by William S. Kelley
00:46 – 00:47 1879, Harry J. Lawson’s bicyclette was one of the first chain driven bicycles.
00:49 – 00:50 1891, W. Scantlebury
00:51 – 00:52 1885, J.K. Starley “Rover Safety Bicycle” 1890 C. D. Rice
