this adds a whole extra level to the smell of rotting food that max & walter discovered when they first opened their helmets in 2010

also if discovery is like Hal's body then after Hal's circuits had been yanked out it became not just a husk but like, literally a zombie. rotting and decaying but still functioning. like imagine you are seeing this brainless zombie whose muscles and limbs are falling apart yet it's still moving as if it were alive except that you know it wasn't. peak uncanniness👀👀👌👌👀👌👀👌

actually Im not done thinking about hal. the rectangle is the main thing we see of him sure but the actual extent of his body is like. pretty much every circuit on the ship. on the one hand he is dependent on his human passengers, he is under their command. but on the other he is so much larger. he engulfs them. he is the only place to live for thousands and thousands of kilometers. and they can kill each other so bad
