okay wait poll time again bc ive been ruminating in this. obv in my time irl and online ive met tons of classic rock fans of many ages types tastes etc. and almost all of them liked the rolling stones. but ive never met anyone who said the stones was their favorite band until ezra (hi angel). my own opinion of the stones is that theyre good obviously but like. in their career theyve done a lot of different things very well but again in my opinion every single thing theyve done well theres another band or artist that does it better. and even being super charitable and ignoring the outright garbage they were putting out for a while to stay relevant (ezra dont be mad at me) for me theres not a single stones album thats like, GREAT. Theres albums with great songs in them (beggars banquet through exile mainly) but they dont really coalesce into being a great ALBUM, like a single cohesive entity thats more than the sum of its parts.

and now im looking back on my storied career as a rock fan and im like wait, have i ever met a single person who was ride or die for the stones (before ezra)? and the answer is no. so now that theres a bit of a classic rock fandom on tumblr again im wondering what the deal is. So

#ok i also missed this b4 the poll closed </3 #but i would like to offer up a crumb of representation for the 'they're my favourite rock band but not artist overall' category #definitely ride or die for them #some girls/let it bleed/sticky fingers are imo capital G Great albums #and uhhh i just like their sound a lot idk #yes bcos of their v large discography a lot of stuff is straight up boring (part of being a stones lover is also being a stones hater) #but that makes it fun to me cos there's so much to sift through to find the stuff that speaks to you more #and ok yh if you're not at all interested in the stones why would you do that #but i AM so it's fun for me :) #also outside of music their history as a band is v interesting - because they're so big they're a group with a lot of. mythology around- #-them. if that makes sense #it was the music that first drew me to them tho. i listened to sticky fingers and had a whole Moment lmao #but anyways yh band with great music + large discography to dig into + lots of interesting stuff to explore about them #< instant ticket for making me Obsessed with them #also worth nothing that i wouldn't say i'm primarily a rock fan although i definitely do listen to my fair share of it #(classic rock especially) #probably would primarily just class myself as a fan of pop music tbh #anyways some girls/let it bleed/sticky fingers/goats head soup/undercover/exile/tattoo you/beggars banquet/blue and lonesome- #- are all imo very good albums #tho not all may agree (undercover esp is a p unpopular opinion lmao) #ok yh i guess i would also have to say that mick jagger captivated me and i'm fascinated by him in a manner that's kinda homosexual. #whatever #the rolling stones
