They’re making an alien plant nursery. Trying to slot textures together. Glow lichen, moss, pitcher plants. Twisting stems to create misshapen shapes— uncanny enough for the biome but not discordant. Creating new life forms together with gentle hands and soft giggles. 

It’s not her task, but she enthusiastically dives into it anyway. He sets out the canvas, and she fills in the details. He creates the niches that she contently tucks herself into.

He knows he owes her. And he’ll continue to owe her. 

But tonight she paints colours over his territory.
