Caught at the last second, Keiji decides to interject on the other’s actions. Whether or not he would continue seemed rather out of his hands... but he should at least offer them a second thought in case this wasn’t their foolproof plan.

              The way the other stared makes Edgar wring through his hands, one over the other as he hides away his gaze behind ebony locks. Fear would not be what would describe this moment. Perhaps UNSETTLED, as he knows the power the other contains is quite something else.

           Something about home on the other side no longer seemed as appealing as it once was. Where masterpieces and crippling loneliness festered within that little home of his. Yet it was SAFE, comforting... and yet, with all the dangers that lurked in this town alone... he wasn’t quite ready to leave. He can’t speak for the others, as last he heard, only Fitzgerald and Louise decided to stay for now.

             What feels as though the question was redundant, as the child has managed to take care of themselves just fine... And was formerly from the Port Mafia’s clutches. Perhaps something about the assumed INNOCENCE of children that leave him worrying over Yumeno.

           Between such nimble, bony fingers held a leather-bound book, with pages upon pages of a written MASTERPIECE, immortalized by ink from a quill. To think he would offer such a service to anyone other than his treasured rival... but it was his rival’s friend. ...And with a promise to read his newest novel when he finishes.

“Though, I suppose you could let them out early if that ability of yours takes effect.”

“I think everyone’s starting to get tired of being here.”

           It was no SURPRISE that even the adults grew weary of the situation that was thrusted upon them without so much a chance to escape it. The conceptual design of TIME ITSELF would fall apart, as no clock nor sun could illuminate on when it was, how long they have been here. Whether it may have been just a day, perhaps a few, they could only rely on their internal clocks... which he knows aren’t perfect for telling time. 

          Like SITTING DUCKS they were... as much as they attempted at unraveling the structures of this labyrinth of mystery, any chance of escape seemed futile. As the floor masters spoke of time and time again, only one shall win this death game, leaving all others to die by their own choices. Grim and pessimistic it may be, it was REALITY. Hope would only satiate the despair that lingered in their chests for only so long. Keiji offers a gentle, sympathetic smile to the musician, as there wasn’t much he could do other than to let her confide in him for the time being. 

          “We can’t give in yet though,” he speaks up again, with a bit more energy than what was spoken previously before. “Kind of lame now that I’ve said it out loud though. But it’s what we need to do for the time being. Gin and Kanna are just kids, but are still hopeful of getting out here alive. Might as well put them at ease if we believe we’ll make it out here too.”

“Trust me, I’m anything but.”

               A hero was BATHED in praise, held upon HIGHEST of podiums, gazed upon with such AWE and WONDER. How adults and children alike could rely on someone, ensuring safety and comfort against the abysmal danger that looms over like creatures of the night. One that could fend them all, bruised and battered, yet still alive.

Much like everything he could never be.

              As votes casted upon digital screens, fingers pressing against tempered glass, claiming their chosen VICTIM for the horrors that lie ahead, only the deep, twisted feeling within his chest clutched mercilessly. Its sharpened claws restricting what little breath held within his lungs. Forced to withhold truths, accusing others for safer choices, all while knowing the FATE of whatever deity casted upon him. How little he tried to avoid narrowed eyes, casting suspicion of such a cruel role. Merely PROGRESSING the end of his chapter until the final grain of sand cascaded from above to its fellow companions within the timepiece.

              His ever so familiar DULL HUES seem to darken, as the results now set in stone were revealed. Upon yet another innocent life... he would only accompany them in their journey through purgatory.

‘The SACRIFICE... was none other than Keiji Shinogi.’

              With such heavy hearts, only moments were spared for last words. Utter despair appeared on some, while others looked heartbroken as they gazed at anyone (or anything) than him. Perhaps what hurt the most, causing such a loss of words was the expression so solemnly painted upon such CHERISHED complexions. Wordlessly, one foot after the other, the pads of his fingertips gently press against the side of his face. To know Alice’s thoughts, he could only wonder. Another loss to him. Another one he could not do anything about.

Oh, how he would miss him.

              Lips brush against the others, hovering in hesitance before pressing a gentle kiss. Bittersweet, and all too short than he could ever prepare for.

“Protect the others for me. Please. Survive.”

              Such a deep rumble of whispers escape him to the prisoner, soon parting ways from the other. Any longer, one would expect a much less dignified way to approach death’s door. Last wishes spoken without a single tremble in his voice, yet in utter terror of what execution would be inflicted upon his tired soul. Distance grows between the two as he approaches his final moments. Yet... his head swivels back for just a second. Just before continuing onward.

He smiles.
