If you have your Picture This Photography calendar this is your December 2022 image “Radio City Christmas.”

Christmas in NYC is always a magical time, even when still living through a pandemic. The city comes to life and pulls out all of the stops from trees to lights to decorations and so much more.

Radio City Music Hall is always one of my favourite places to visit both inside and outside due to the grandeur Art Deco design & marquee signage. It is an entertainment venue in Midtown on 6th Avenue and 50th St & is home to The Rockettes. I love visiting for music events or The Christmas Show as the inside hosts a very majestic foyer and a lavish auditorium with incredible acoustics.

This image was captured early one Sunday morning before the sun came up (round 6:30am) or the city awoke. I love to capture iconic buildings in all their glory without the distractions of people in the shot or around me. I wanted to capture the cool blue & purple colours with the contrasting bold Red/White Art Deco signage.

This long exposure image was taken with a tripod from 1/2 block south on the pavilion that hosts the Christmas baubles as it creates interesting foreground and compliments the colour palette. I love the geometric aspect softened by the round bubbles and contrasting colours.

The holiday season is made even more enjoyable day or night with “Radio City Christmas NYC”

This image was captured mid morning as the sun moved around to illuminate Gapstow Bridge. It is always a Fall highlight to capture the ever-changing gorgeous detail within the colours & textures of the vines & foliage.

Constructed in 1896 from rustic stone & wrapped in vines Gapstow Bridge is breathtaking all year round whatever the weather. It is positioned in the south-east corner of the park which makes it a popular place to visit daily.

📷 This image was captured with a zoom lens to fill the frame & focus on the foreground & vines of Gapstow Bridge and surrounding foliage.

Time of Day-Sunday morning, approx 10am

Camera Settings-Deep Depth of Field, focus on The Arch, Landscape settings, Low ISO to create natural light & colour & slowest shutter speed available for hand held shot.
