The world of business today is complex and growing more complex every day. Managers must contend with technological innovation along with an ever-growing global economy in which events on one end of the globe will affect your company. Making effective decisions is much more difficult in this brave new world, and聽systems thinking聽provides a model of decision-making that helps organizations effectively deal with change and adapt. It is a component of a聽learning organization, which is an organization that facilitates learning throughout the organization to transform itself and adapt.
System thinking is a method of critical thinking by which you analyze the relationships between the system's parts in order to understand a situation for better decision-making. In simpler terms, you look at a lot of the trees, other plants and critters living around the trees, the weather, and how all these parts fit together in order to figure out the forest.
First, we should begin by defining a system. A聽system聽is a set of parts that interact and affect each other, thereby creating a larger whole of a complex thing.

聽Let's start with a simple example from nature: the Earth. Our planet is a very complex system consisting of atmosphere, water, mountains, plains, jungles, plants, insects, animals, humans, and our technological wonders, just to name a few. A scientist may look at many interactions of these parts in researching climate change. General patterns may be found in these interactions that may help explain the system and find solutions to the problems by changing the patterns of interaction between the parts.

Now, let's apply the idea of a system to business. We'll start small and work our way up. A business is a system consisting of many parts: employees, management, capital, equipment, and products, among others. Your business and your competitors comprise a system, which we may call an industry. Different industries - along with consumers, governments, and non-governmental organizations - make up our economic system. It can get even more complex, but we'll stop here.
System thinking is a major departure from the old way of business decision-making in which you would break the system into parts and analyze the parts separately. Supporters of system thinking believe that the old way is inadequate for our dynamic world, where there are numerous interactions between the parts of a system, creating the reality of a situation. According to system thinking, if we examine the interactions of the parts in a system, we will see larger patterns emerge. By seeing the patterns, we can begin to understand how the system works. If the pattern is good for the organization, we can make decisions that reinforce it; but if the pattern is bad for the organization, we can make decisions that change the pattern.

We already know and easily can highlight several signs of climate change. They are: rising global sea level, widespread melting of snow and ice, rapidly changing ocean and global temperatures, and other signs. So, what are the causes of climate change? Is it natural or do human beings cause it? Well, in both cases we would be right. The climate change can be affected by natural factors, such as solar output, volcanic eruptions, and the Earth鈥檚 orbit around the Sun. Also, climate change can be affected by human activities such as, deforestation, burning fossil fuels, causing ozone hole, and building mass destructive weapons and using them on earth that causes a huge radioactivity on earth. The people from Chad Sahel is an example who suffers from climate change. She explained about the Lake Chad wherein most people survive or get most of their resources in this lake. But because of its shrinking resources people from Chad most especially women and children suffers. They became innovators and used farmer鈥檚 traditional technique called zai. People are depending in farming because 90% of the Lake Chad is disappearing. Women leave behind because man need to go to the cities to find job to support their families and if they can鈥檛 find money they need to stay or migrate from other country and never go back again. Climate also cause poverty in the area because most people get their food in the Lake Chad. And create conflict among communities. Climate is inherently variable. Climate changes from place to place and it varies with time. The world now faces one of the complex and important issue it has ever had to deal with: climate change. Climate change today is one of the biggest concerns of human beings on the planet and the effects of climate change are undeniable and it may cause environmental, social, and economic threats to the planet. 聽

The layoff of one individual in a company may appear minor, but it often causes a ripple effect in an organization where employees work together to achieve a common goal.

Direct Costs. One of the things a business owner considers when he needs to save money at a company is laying off staff in anticipation of saving money on payroll and benefits. However, the company often ends up incurring costs as a result of the layoff that minimize the savings. For example, the company may have to issue severance pay to outgoing employees, pay overtime wages to remaining employees and use placement services for temporary help.

Increased Turnover. Business owners who execute layoffs in their companies frequently see additional employees resign from their jobs. Layoffs can disillusion top-ranking employees who then opt to leave the company. Watching a colleague leave involuntarily could cause an employee to consider job offers from other companies seriously or to actively seek new job opportunities.

Decreased Customer. Loyalty Laying off employees can have a significant negative effect on customer retention. Every customer is an asset to any company, and the employer must find ways to retain each of them. When a company lays off its employees it sends out a message to customers that it is undergoing some sort of crisis. Fewer employees could mean delays in the delivery of goods and services, further alienating customers.

Emotional Distress. The person who is laid off suffers the most distress, but remaining employees suffer emotionally as well. Because the layoff disrupts the status quo, employees have to pick up extra responsibilities and form new work relationships, which can cause stress. The productivity level of employees who work in fear is likely to go down. The situation is even more damaging to the company when the person who has lost his job stays around until the date of termination of his contract.
A layoff introduces a missing link in the team, which affects the organization in several ways. The company faces a greater challenge when layoffs occur en masses.
