More picrew fun! This one was really cool, I loved how unhinged it got towards the end 🥴
Thank you so much @moon--meadow for the tag 💚
Originally I wanted to tag all of my mutuals but tumblr wouldn't allow it. If you read this and we are mutuals and I did not tag you, I still love you and tag you with my words 👀
oooooo well part of it is Kvothe and the world being sexist. like it was obviously intentional that pat rothfuss decided only 10% of the students at the university are women, as well as other specific and deliberate choices.
but there are so few women in notw, esp in the beginning. before we meet denna, the only significant woman we meet is his mom, vs the men being his dad, abenthy, trapis, the bully whose name i forget. and for side characters there are very few women mentioned casually and a lot of men mentioned in smaller roles. why are there so many more men in his troupe than women?
there will be turns of phrases or passages that on rereads make me go oh Yikes. I was listening to it with my gf a while back and there was one passage I can't remember where I was like, oh yeah a man wrote this. I can't remember it but I remember my reaction. probably a description of a woman.
other people have pointed out how almost every woman introduced is described as beautiful, which is a good point.
felurian. bleugh
some well worn tropes we see in many places, ie women don't like denna because men do (cause women only care about men), denna has naturally bright red lips (lollll) etc etc
in rereads, sim's reactions to women (besides fela, more like women in passing), makes me a little uncomfortable. the desperateness of wanting a girlfriend is not a good look. maybe thats the anti amanormativity in me tho.
there are also a lot of moments pushing back on sexism and inherently feminist moments and characters, but that doesn't cancel out the sexism, you know?
this isn't me saying the book is bad, but I'm not going to pretend it's flawless or there aren't things I wish I could change. but for me, it's important to be critical of what I enjoy and understand others' perspectives as well.
You know what bothers me. People acting like they care for animals or human rights or the environment talking about the same old scientifically wrong arguments and then getting angry when you point out that they don't actually care. Because they "just like meat" and "will never change their diet" or any other behavior. You know if you want to eat meat cool whatever I don't care. But don't act like you actually give a shit about these issues. Because you are willingly contributing to the problem.
I dont even know why I argue with people here I'm gonna touch grass. People are out of their minds.
