Hello everyone! I’m making a post on behalf of my friend, who doesn’t have a Tumblr.

She is a 2-Spirit Inuk artist who is fundraising to access vital medical treatment for chemical burns and resulting pain & complications.

She’s been struggling to receive accessible care in a racist medical system, and she needs our support.

Donations will also pay for transportation to & from the hospital for treatment, as well as basic necessities like her phone bill.

She was recently unable to pay and therefore couldn’t handle her medical needs because she had no access to a phone.

Hundreds of Jewish anti-war demonstrators have been arrested during a Passover seder that doubled as a protest in New York, as they shut down a major thoroughfare to pray for a ceasefire and urge the Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, to end US military aid to Israel.

The 300 or so arrests took place on Tuesday night at Grand Army Plaza, on the doorstep of Schumer’s Brooklyn residence, where thousands of mostly Jewish New Yorkers gathered for the seder, a ritual that marked the second night of the holiday celebrated as a festival of freedom by Jews worldwide.

The seder came just before the US Senate resoundingly passed a military package that includes $26bn for Israel.

Heya guys. Sorry for posting this for the billionth time. But maybe if you guys would like to give my posts about patreon a boost it would mean the world to me. I know I post this a lot and I don't take any help I receive for granted. I've only been able to make two new drawings since February. Bc every day I have been working almost 9 hours. I'm sick nearly every other week, my lymph nodes are swollen n I've been feeling incredibly depressed. I am from the global south, in the philippines, government help is near nonexistent. I am the sole caretaker of three disabled people. My mom can not do any housework, she is a full time wheelchair user, she needs care 24/7, insulin, adult diapers and kidneys that are under threat of failing if we don't watch her health, my dad has a chronic heart condition and my sister is autistic with a very low frustration threshold. Both my parents are diabetic, and I am the only person in my family who can work. I currently have three jobs, one in publishing, but I have a morality clause which means the publishing house can take back every single penny I make if I or the author fail to meet certain expectations. Anyway.. I have been working nonstop, my scoliosis is untreated and extremely painful, n for the past few four days I have been rationing a single can of spam and a few potatoes. Would mean the world to me if you guys could pick up a print, or subscribe to my patreon, or reblog any of my old art or send me a tip on ko-fi or anywhere else. Sorry and thank you again. I remake these a lot, but I sincerely don't take any of the help I receive for granted. Thank you again.

The phenomenon of the ultra polished “zine” fucked with my perception of independent art in a bad way. My first show years ago I stressed myself sick about the quality of my work, then overpriced my stuff and was unable to connect with the other vendors.

Learning to let myself make low stakes, messy and cheaply made zines has genuinely helped pave a healthier and more joyful relationship to my work. At a show this year I had exclusively single sheet zines and had a blast sharing and trading, plus I made friends!

I really hope the word association with glossy publications dies soon and zines get weird and shitty again.

it's absolutely breaking my heart how many people in the notes of that post are relating similar experiences. people being rejected from submission based artbooks that market themselves as entry level amateur community projects. people going to their first cons and having their confidence shattered by professional level work labelled 'zines'. people getting screwed out of payment or not receiving books they paid for, and being shamed out of pursuing it because it's 'just a zine'. younger people who didn't even know zines were supposed to be handmade!

we have to rescue zines, we have to teach people the joy of making a little book of soup recipes from scrap paper and trading it for a little book of titty affirmations. a zine is an ikea instruction leaflet you coloured in. a zine is a manifesto about liberating e-bikes, illustrated with a roll of price stickers you found in a drawer. we cannot tolerate a minimum entry requirement.

the whole point of a zine is that it's cheap to produce, amateur and homemade. if you're being asked to apply to participate in a print project, it is not a zine. if the final product is being printed and bound professionally, it is not a zine. if you are being asked to enter into any kind of licensing agreement more complex than "my work can be reproduced as part of this publication" it is not a zine. nine times put of ten if the final product costs more than $5 you have left zine country. im so serious about this.

Finished up the carhartt project today! From feeling like I had ruined the jacket, to having it be one of my favorite pieces I've ever made- just goes to show that pivoting directions and keeping on with a project even after messing up can really lead to great things!

Incredibly alarming that talks of “peace” in Gaza seem to extend no further than a ceasefire. How do you think they’re gonna start off where they left off themselves? Their houses are destroyed, so many have lost mothers and fathers and brothers and children, they still have no clean water and no food. Any area Israel withdraws out of is an area it already knows has been rendered inhospitable. There was even a direct quote by some IOF soldier gleefully stating how he “wasn’t sure Palestinians could go back to their homes.” So what happens when the US “succeeds at negotiating a ceasefire”? Who will be responsible for helping the Palestinians rebuild all that they’ve lost?
