White Executive ‘Fired For Being White’ Wins $10 Million Discrimination Suit

A marketing executive who was fired for being a white male and replaced by two woman, one of whom was black, as part of a diversity goal, has been awarded a $10 million dollar discrimination payout.

David Duvall sued Novant Health in North Carolina after working there for five years as the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communication and receiving plaudits for his contribution.

However, Duvall was terminated shortly before reaching an anniversary that would have secured him a higher severance pay than he was given.

As part of the company’s “diversity and inclusion program,” Duvall was “replaced by two women – Kate Everett, a white woman who had worked with him and was promoted to take the role of Chief PR and Communications Officer and Vicky Free, a black woman who was given the role of Chief Marketing Officer,” reports the Daily Mail.

Duvall’s attorneys argued that he was fired “because he was a white man” and was sacrificed so the company could meet its five year plan to boost diversity by 2020.

“They said he wasn’t the only white executive fired; in his complaint, he says the Chief Legal Officer, Medical Group President, Chief Information Officer, Patient Experience Officer and President of Haymarket Medical Center were all replaced either by a black person or a woman in the 12-18 months after him.”

After a jury were convinced by the argument that Duvall was terminated for no other reason than his race and gender, the former exec won a $10 million reverse discrimination lawsuit.

“The jury was clearly sending a message to punish Novant for doing this,” Fox 46 Charlotte’s Seema Iyer said.

“Duvall was a strong advocate of diversity at Novant,” said S. Luke Largess of Charlotte, Duvall’s attorney. “We believe the punitive damages award is a message that an employer cannot terminate and replace employees in order to achieve greater diversity in the workforce.”

As we previously highlighted, a prestigious art museum in Chicago fired hundreds of unpaid volunteers and replaced them with paid workers because they were too white.

A similar thing happened last month when the English Touring Opera (ETO) kicked out half of its orchestral players in an effort to prioritize “increased diversity in the orchestra.”

This is another reminder that the only form of ‘acceptable’ institutionalized racism is targeted against white people.

The fact that Duvall won however should set a good precedent that makes this less likely to happen in future.

Breaking: US Embassy Under Siege in Sudan

The prime minister of Sudan was arrested in a stunning military coup Monday morning, sparking mass protests in the capital city of Khartoum and elsewhere across the country while fueling even more chaos across the already dangerous, unstable Horn of Africa.

Just hours after Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and other top government officials were taken into custody by military leaders, the U.S. Embassy in Sudan warned American citizens to shelter in place amid reports that armed forces were blocking roads in and around Khartoum. The unexpected coup came just weeks before the country was set to transition from its current transitional government to full civilian control.

But Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, head of the nation’s military, said during a speech on national television that instead the military will remain in charge until elections are held in July 2023.

“The armed forces will continue completing the democratic transition until the handover of the country’s leadership to a civilian, elected government,” he said, adding that internal fighting between Sudanese political factions necessitated a takeover by the military.

Monday’s developments will further destabilize eastern Africa and could affect U.S. military policy on the continent. American forces already are embroiled in a long-running air campaign in nearby Somalia, where a fragile central government is clinging to power in the capital of Mogadishu but where huge swaths of the rest of the country are controlled by the al Qaeda affiliate al-Shabaab.

Sudan‘s neighbor to the east, Ethiopia, is in the midst of its own civil war.

If Sudan descends into complete chaos, that could open the door for an expansion of terrorist groups that already have a major foothold across Africa.

GOP Representative Pans Hunter Biden’s Artwork While Calling for DOJ Investigation

Republican Representative from Colorado, Ken Buck, displayed a Hunter Biden painting during last week’s House Judiciary hearing, asking Attorney General Merrick Garland how it could come close in value to two classical art pieces he also displayed next to it.

The displays served as a lead-up to Buck asking Garland if he would appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the younger Biden. Garland declined to answer, saying he wouldn’t comment on pending investigations. When Buck told him he could comment on appointing a special prosecutor, Garland said he would take Buck’s request “under advisement.”

Buck showed Garland paintings by Claude Monet and Edgar Degas, costing $700,000 and $500,000, respectively.

“The third painting … is a Hunter Biden,” Buck added to laughter. After Garland said he didn’t recognize the painting, Buck said that particular painting sold for $500,000.

“Now, you may think that … when Hunter Biden is in such exclusive company that he would have a background in artistic training, for example,” he said.

“But you would be wrong if you thought that. And you might think that he had some sort of apprenticeship with a world-renowned artist, but you would be wrong again if you thought that. Or perhaps that he has been selling his works for years – and again, unfortunately, you would be wrong.”

Buck noted that Biden was selling his pieces for as much as $500,000. The New York Post previously reported that the gallery hosting Biden had received $500,000 in coronavirus relief.

As Buck noted, former President Obama’s ethics czar expressed concern about the Hunter’s dealings.

“Hunter Biden should cancel this art sale because he knows the prices are based on his dad’s job,” said former ethics chief Walter Shaub in July. “Shame on POTUS if he doesn’t ask Hunter to stop.”

Garland’s department has reportedly started investigating Biden’s finances.

Hollywood Weapons Expert: Alec Baldwin Ignored the No. 1 Rule of Gun Safety

Hollywood weapons expert Bryan Carpenter responded of the death and injuries related to Alec Baldwin’s discharge of a prop gun while filming by suggesting Baldwin ignored the number rule of gun safety.

Breitbart News reported that the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office was investigating after Baldwin discharged the gun on the set of ‘Rust’ Thursday, killing 42-year-old director of photography Halyna Hutchins and wounding director 48-year-old Joel Souza.

The New York Post quoted Carpenter stressing that the No. 1 rule as, “Loaded or unloaded, a weapon never gets pointed at another human being.”

He noted that rules of gun safety apply even on a movie set, where “you never let the muzzle of a weapon cover something you don’t intend to destroy.”

An additional, overarching gun safety rule is that individuals are to treat every gun as if is loaded. This rule goes hand-in-hand with the one on which Carpenter focused and also negates pointing a gun at anyone, as the firearm is always presumed loaded.

In addition to the gun safety issues, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees claim “Halyna Hutchins was killed by a live round of ammunition.”

The Post spoke with former filmmaker and US National Shooting Team member Peter Lake, who said, “I can’t think of any reason there would be a live round anywhere on set. They are generally prohibited from movie sets. There is no explanation I can think of why there would be a live round in a gun on set. You certainly wouldn’t have it in the hands of an actor.”

Alec Baldwin has been an anti-gun activist for years, even participating in an anti-NRA ad campaign.

One of his more prominent gun control tweets has come back to haunt him in the aftermath of Thursday’s shooting. Breitbart News reported one of Baldwin’s tweets from years gone by in which he wrote, “I wonder how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone.”

Attorney Andrew Stoltmann told Fox News he believes actor Alec Baldwin “needs to start thinking like a potential defendant instead of just somebody who made a tragic mistake.”

Stoltmann added, “I’m certainly not saying he’s going to be charged, but what I am saying is anytime somebody shoots another human being – even on accident, even in self-defense – the police and eventually prosecutors look very, very carefully at what happened.”

Biden Appoints US Maritime Administrator With No Experience

The FAA is headed by a pilot, NASA is headed by an astronaut, the US Marine Corps is headed by a Marine but for the fourth time in a row, and during the worst shipping crisis of the century, the US Department of Transportation, has appointed someone to the US Maritime Administration (MARAD) who is not a captain and has no commercial shipping experience.

Yesterday afternoon, President Biden announced his intention to nominate Rear Admiral Ann Phillips, US Navy (Retired), as the next US Maritime Administrator, a position that has been vacant since Rear Admiral Mark Buzby stepped down following the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in January.

Phillips is a highly decorated Navy leader with a long list of accomplishments and is highly respected by everyone gCaptain has interviewed. She was head of the Navy’s Climate Change Task Force and is a highly sought after consultant on climate security issues. She holds an MBA. She was chairman of a local government Sea Level Rise Preparedness and Resilience project. She once captained a Navy warship. The appointment looks great on paper except for one minor problem. There is only one problem. This is not a warship position. It’s a commercial shipping appointment and she has zero experience aboard any commercial ships. She does not even have experience leading navy military sealift ships.

The US Maritime Administrator The position of US Maritime Administrator is traditionally held by a commercial shipowner or captain, but President Obama left the position unfilled for years then selected a former congressional staffer, David Matsuda. He was highly unpopular and was pushed out in 2013. Obama followed the appointment with a relatively low ranking navy submarine commander Chip Jaenichen.

The Trump administration appointed US Navy Rear Admiral Mark Buzby for the position. Buzby, while not a commercial mariner or ship owner, was a graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), and spent years traveling around the country, meeting with ship captains and commercial maritime stake holders. He reached out and listened to stakeholder needs. Buzby became highly popular within the industry on his promise to publish a new US Maritime Strategy. That strategy was finished but was lost in the malaize of government bureaucracy.

Mark Buzby did accomplish one seemingly impossible task, he saved Aker’s Phillidelphia Shipyard from closing by purchasing four new state maritime academy training ships, valued at over $1.5 billion. Construction of the NSMVs supports over 1,000 direct shipyard jobs in Philadelphia. Buzby also convinced the US Transportation Command to do a major “turbo-activation” of the Ready Reserve Fleet which proved the abysmal state of our nation’s readiness to move materials for war.

Buzby was popular, but he had numerous failures. Despite working with USMMA alumni to roll out a major advertising campaign to increase funding for the school, that funding never materialized. He failed to expand the US Maritime Service. He failed to publish a new National Maritime strategy (the one MARAD eventually did get approved was a lightly edited copy of the last failed strategy). He failed to get the US Navy to include commercial shipping and sealift in its strategy. He failed to fund the Short Sea Distribution and Short Sea Shipping networks he championed.

Many of these failures were not his fault. The Trump Administration arrived with three major shipowners in cabinet position (Chao, Ross and Tillerson), Trump arranged weekly meetings between Buzby and his top advisor (Navarro), opened a maritime desk in the Council of Economic Advisers, and brought maritime experts in to advise the US Export-Import Bank. At the time congress was lead by Senator Mitch McConnel who married into one the world’s most successful shipping families. But despite a promising start, Buzby’s most new policies got pushed to Trump’s second term, a term that never happened. Senior Washington sources also claim that his boss, Elaine Chao, lost interest in MARAD after the New York Times published an article highly critical of her family’s shipping fortunes.

Buzby’s final act as administrator was endorsing a licensed ship captain as his replacement but Biden never called his nominee in for an interview. Biden appointed no ship owners to his cabinet, he closed the White House maritime desk, he delayed his MARAD appointment for 278 days. The Biden administration is so sea blind that they even forgot to recall critical republican appointed positions to the International Maritime Organization in London.

“I respect the hell out of Buzby,” one White House insider told gCaptain. “He did a lot of great work but it’s already been lost or forgotten. Some of his work is classified, some were shipped off to the National Archives by Biden aids, but what really killed his legacy is a lack of continuity at MARAD.”

Numerous sources inside the beltway have told gCaptain that MARAD is fundamentally broken. Nearly a decade of neglect by the Obama Administration left MARAD with a broken, tired, and ineffective workforce. Buzby made only one major internal move of significance, replacing the highly unpopular Obama selected Army Colonel running USMMA with a major shipping CEO. “The rest of MARAD he naively thought he could motivate and foster, as he had done many times during his naval career,” says a US Navy Officer who works with MARAD. “But commercial shipping is not something the Navy understands. The dead wood inside MARAD showed some signs of life under his strong leadership but, once he left, the place reverted to infighting and morass. If Buz had fired more people like Hellis, and replaced them with shipping experts, his legacy might have continued.”

The Global Shipping Crisis The appointment of Rear Admiral Ann Phillips comes as the shipping crisis dominates the world media headlines and the USMMA, which MARAD runs, faces the biggest scandal in its history. Biden has taken strong action in response to these problems. This summer he elected a port envoy to fix the shipping crisis. Last month MARAD hired a high level GS15 to handle media relations. Just last week took MARAD took strong and positive action against allegations of rape at USMMA.

Each action however has been a misstep. To the untrained eye the 139 ships waiting to leave Los Angeles may look like a port crisis that can be solved by a US Port Envoy, it is not. It is a SHIPPING crisis. Numerous ports around the United States including Oakland and San Diego, have extra capacity, what we don’t have is anyone with recent SHIPPING experience at MARAD directing the SHIPS to empty ports. This week Biden addressed the nation with a plan to prevent containergeddon from ruining Christmas but experts say his plan is doomed to fail because, again, not a single ship captain was called to give advice on how to fix this SHIPPING crisis.

While MARAD’s strong and decisive action to address reported rapes initially looked highly productive, it is not enough. It has now been weeks after the allegations were made public and no arrests have been made. MARAD has also failed to engage commercial shipping organizations with experience handling this problem, organizations like WISTA or Human Rights at Sea, or Safer Waves to address the wider industry problem of rapes.

(They have, thankfully, engaged with Woman Offshore or, at least, WO engaged them.)

Worse still is the fact, while addressing the topic of rape at USMMA, they have not issued a single statement about allegations of sexual assaults, hospitalizations, and coverups aboard MARAD owned training ships mastered by US Merchant Service captains who, while employed by state maritime academies, are uniformed officers sworn in and commissioned by MARAD.

And now with what Forbes has called Biden’s single most critical appointment, he appoints a highly capable and impressive leader to run MARAD but one with zero industry experience.

It is clear that President Biden and Secretary Buttigieg have good intentions but continually fail to consult the right experts.

“If the international space station was disintegrating as fast as our shipping and logistics network currently is,” said one ship owner at this week’s Connecticut Maritime Conference. “They would have experts of all types inside mission control, but astronauts would be reviewing each plan. Now we have a shipping crisis and not a single ship captain is called? Nuts.”

But you can’t blame Biden and Buttigieg and MARAD alone. MARAD has been pushed aside by politicians for many decades… and it’s not just a government problem, thousands of small businesses, large businesses, militaries, NGOs, and world councils are struggling to fight the problem yet none of them showed up for the United State’s single most important shipping conference of the year, the CMA conference. Neither did the world’s largest ship owners Maersk CMA CGM, and the US Navy. According to the President of CMA, Chris Aversano, attendance was fifty percent lower than pre-covid levels.

Driving into the nation’s most important conference held just outside the world’s media capital, during the worst crisis in decades, gCaptain was worried we would even be able to get a media pass. We should not have worried, we were the only journalists who even bothered to attend.

It’s not just Biden who doesn’t understand shipping and is failing to consult with ship captains and ship owners, it’s media and logistics professionals around the world.

No wonder that Christmas will be canceled. Santa and the reindeer are getting lots of attention but nobody has asked the elves who maintain the sleigh what help they need.

Trump Gives Back Hope With New Social Media Platform

Conservatives and populists have been cheering over news that President Donald Trump is launching an upstart social media venture to compete with the Big Tech giants.

“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. “I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech,” he added.

However, the platform explicitly allows for censorship in its terms of service. They ban any user that will “disparage, tarnish, or otherwise harm, in our opinion, us and/or the Site.” This terminology is incredibly vague and could end up being more restrictive against speech than Facebook or Twitter.

“Even censorship-heavy Facebook/Twitter don’t go as far as making their companies protected from criticism. I know this is gonna make some people mad, but Trump isn’t really about free speech if his TOS says you’re not allowed to hurt his feelings, as defined by him,” wrote journalist Ford Fischer, who has been frequently targeted with censorship by tech monopolies.

Big League Politics reported about Trump’s first social media venture, which was a grift that fizzled pathetically shortly after its unveiling:

“Former president Donald Trump has announced an independent social media platform that will allow direct interaction with his supporters, but the venture may already be doomed because of the influence from the usual suspects.

Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and disgraced former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale are running the project. Gab founder Andrew Torba spoke to commentator Pedro Gonzalez to explain his interactions with the Kushner sphere during negotiations earlier this year.

“As we told Mr. Kushner’s aides, Gab has no plans to sell our business or to compromise in any way our mission to defend free speech online for all people,” Torba said. “We fully expect the president’s entry into the arena to accelerate alternative technology growth trends and wish the president and his tech team well.”

“They said that they were in ‘make money mode’ and were focused on how they could financially benefit from Gab and change our free speech stance,” he added. “All I wanted to do was give the president his voice back, but Kushner and others in the president’s orbit expected me to hand the keys to the kingdom over to them and change the core mission of Gab. I wasn’t going to let that happen.”

Some of Trump’s hype men are already making the rounds talking about how Trump’s new social media platform is going to be groundbreaking, trendsetting, and spectacular.

“I do think that we’re going to see President Trump returning to social media in probably about two or three months here, with his own platform,” said Trump senior advisor Jason Miller during an appearance on Fox News’ “#MediaBuzz.” “And this is something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media, it’s going to completely redefine the game, and everybody is going to be waiting and watching to see what exactly President Trump does.”

“This is going to be launched in the next 3 to 4 months, and it’s going to be an interactive communication tool, whereby the president will be able to post things to it, and people will be able to repost and communicate directly with him,” said former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski during a recent appearance on Newsmax TV.

Lewandowski mentioned that Trump’s platform “is not going to rely on Amazon, or Amazon servers” and will “be completely built from scratch, from the ground up.” He also said that the social media platform is “going to give [Trump] the opportunity to control not only the distribution of it, but also who participates in it,” suggesting that this is an elaborate marketing ploy rather than an authentic attempt to protect digital free speech.“

While President Trump’s social media venture may be well-intentioned, true free speech supporters would be wise to stick to Telegram and Gab if they want their rights respected.

Afghan Accused of Raping Teenage Girl, Brought To US By Biden

An Afghan male, reportedly brought to the United States by President Joe Biden’s massive resettlement operation out of Afghanistan, is accused of raping a teenage girl in Missoula, Montana.

Zabihullah Mohmand, a 19-year-old Afghan male, was arrested and charged with raping an 18-year-old woman in a Residence Inn Marriot hotel in Missoula on October 17. According to the woman, she met Mohmand at the hotel bar.

The Missoulian reports:

When Missoula police met with the woman, she reported meeting Mohmand and two other men she did not know, the documents said. They left the Badlander looking for a house party. When the group learned there wasn’t a party, Mohmand asked the woman to go back to his hotel room. She agreed, but made it clear she did not want anything to happen between them. When they arrived at Mohmand’s hotel room, she went to sleep. [Emphasis added]

While telling police her story, she then began crying. She and Mohmand did have sex, she said, adding “(she) just couldn’t get him off me.” Mohmand wouldn’t let her leave, she told law enforcement. She also mentioned that another man was in the room during the assault. When she eventually left the room to get an Uber, Mohmand allegedly followed her out and tried to stop her from leaving. In cellphone correspondence with her friend, the woman reported being raped. Her neck had significant bruising and red marks, charging documents said. She told officers Mohmand had held her down on the bed by placing his hand around her neck with force. [Emphasis added]

Montana Talks reports that Mohmand arrived in the U.S. on “humanitarian parole,” the process by which the Biden administration has brought tens of thousands of Afghans to the U.S. over the last two months.

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) told Montana Talks that “this situation and others across the country raise serious concerns about whether the Biden administration is meeting its obligations to fully vet Afghans prior to resettlement.”

“I’m calling on President Biden to immediately halt resettlements to Montana until federal agencies provide me with adequate assurance that Afghans coming to Montana are fully-vetted in accordance with federal law,” Gianforte said.

Likewise, Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) released a similar statement:

The charges against the Afghan male come after two Afghan men at Fort McCoy in Monroe County, Wisconsin, are being prosecuted for separate charges of domestic abuse and child sex crimes.

In those two cases, one of the Afghans is accused of strangling and suffocating his wife, whom he has allegedly abused for years. The other Afghan is accused of molesting 12-year-old and 14-year-old boys and threatening them with violence if they reported the abuse.

Mohmand is being held on a $50,000 bail, and his arraignment is set for November 1.

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is touting his state’s seaports as a solution to help ease America’s ongoing supply chain crisis, offering them as an alternative to the overwhelmed ports in other parts of the country.

In a Tuesday press conference at the Port of Jacksonville, known as JAXPORT, DeSantis pointed to backlogs such as those currently happening in California, where the ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach both had a record number of ships waiting to unload the day before.

Last week, the White House said LA’s port had vowed to start opening 24 hours a day, but the port has yet to lay out a timeline for when that might happen.

DeSantis says Florida ports, in contrast, are already open at all hours and can handle a lot more business than they already do.

“Our ports operate 24/7, I mean, that should be happening anyway,” the governor said. “We in Florida have the ability to help alleviate these logjams and help to ameliorate the problems with the supply chain.”

“We’re here, we have capacity,” he emphasized.

The governor said JAXPORT and other Florida seaports are further offering incentive packages to businesses that want to send cargo through the facilities, noting that companies in other parts of the globe have already begun rerouting shipments from logjammed ports to Florida.

DeSantis said that since he became governor in 2019, Florida has allocated nearly a billion dollars to port projects, and the state has also invested in freight and rail infrastructure – two other areas where hold-ups such as labor shortages have been cited as part of the delays in moving cargo out of other ports.

“We’re able to accommodate these ships without back-ups, our seaports are used to operating around the clock, they’re used to moving cargo for American families, farmers and businesses, and we think that this is a great solution given our capacity for some of the problems you see across the country,” the governor said.

The deputy secretary at the US Treasury has put Americans on notice that the only way to end the plague of empty shelves around the country is for every resident to be vaccinated. The frank warning came off as a threat to many.

Wally Adeyemo, the Biden administration’s second-highest official in the Treasury Department, appeared to publicly blackmail the still-sizable portion of Americans who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 during a Thursday ABC interview, seemingly blaming them for the ongoing shortages of consumer goods that have led many to mock the president as ‘Empty Shelves Joe’.

Despite viral photos depicting thousands of cargo ships lined up at the Port of Los Angeles ready to unload their goods, Adeyemo claimed that the supply chain issues plaguing so many US retailers are an international issue and will only let up when a sufficient percentage of the country has been vaccinated.

Describing the disastrous economic conditions as “an economy that’s in transition,” Adeyemo acknowledged that “we are seeing high prices for some of the things that people have to buy.” While he praised the administration’s stimulus payments, he also pinned the blame squarely on the unvaccinated.

The reality is that the only way we’re going to get to a place where we work through this transition is if everyone in America and everyone around the world gets vaccinated.

While the ABC reporter repeatedly suggested that the country’s shortages of toilet paper and other panic-buy items could be traced to international supply chain disruptions, a growing number of Americans are demanding answers regarding the weirdly specific nature of certain products missing from store shelves. Some have even voiced doubt concerning whether the shortages are being introduced deliberately, either to gin up hatred against the unvaccinated or keep Americans economically off-balance as they grow accustomed to the wild disruptions of the pandemic.

Adeyemo did the Biden cabinet no favors by adding fuel to the conspiratorial fire, explaining the primary reason Biden continued to push for everyone to be vaccinated was that only then could the White House “provide the resources the American people need to make it to the other side” of the supply chain problem.

Despite blaming the international shipping industry for empty shelves in the US, the media establishment has acknowledged that the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach – which together process 40% of the nation’s imports – had their busiest years on record last year, giving the lie to the notion that the products missing from American shelves simply don’t exist. However, many truckers working for shipping companies have balked at the idea of mandatory vaccination, leaving their firms’ fleets woefully understaffed, and others have gone on strike to demand better working conditions.

The Biden administration has attempted to address the supply chain problem by calling for the Port of Los Angeles to run 24 hours, but while he praised his own promised move as a “game changer,” the executive director of the port has made it clear that there is no timetable in place for the promised schedule shift. Meanwhile, Biden’s cabinet has come across as woefully out of touch – White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, for example, pooh-poohed the issue of empty shelves as a “high class” problem earlier this week, eliciting criticism from both Left and Right. And Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been quietly vacationing on paternity leave since mid-August, leaving the country without even a semblance of logistical oversight as the cargo clog shows no signs of dissipating.

Labor shortages are being felt far beyond the US, though often for similar reasons. In Italy, thousands of protesters turned out to block cargo ships from unloading their bounty earlier this week. The demonstrators were outraged over the country’s adoption of a mandatory vax-to-work policy similar to that threatened by the Biden administration. And the UK government has begged lorry drivers to return to work, even luring foreign drivers in with temporary visas as the country frets over its own empty shelves issues.

Australian ‘truckies’ have united with other unions to exert pressure on the government, which has kept cities like Melbourne under lockdown for months despite vanishingly few reported cases of Covid-19. The government was already floating policies like ‘no jab, no job’ over a year ago and has led the way in leveraging the pandemic to turn Five Eyes ‘democracies’ into police states.

Biden Nominates Foul Creature As Papal Ambassador

Thanks to our token “devout” President Joe Biden, former Indiana Sen. and Planned Parenthood advocate Joe Donnelly could represent America’s Catholic faithful as the U.S. ambassador to the Roman Catholic pope. Self-proclaimed Roman Catholic Donnelly is about as faithful as Biden himself. That is to say, not at all.

Throughout his presidency, Biden has presented a mirage of faith to Catholic voters who expect America’s second Catholic president to have their interests in mind. He doesn’t — and Donnelly’s appointment confirms that.

Following Biden and the rest of his so-called Catholic cronies, Donnelly has switched sides in the fight against abortion. Although he was elected on a staunchly pro-life platform when a U.S. senator, Donnelly’s faith apparently doesn’t cover human life — at least, not politically.

In March 2010, Donnelly voted for taxpayer-funded abortion through Obamacare. In August 2015, the senator cast a pro-life vote by voting for Cloture On S. 1881, A Bill To Prohibit Federal Funding For Planned Parenthood. Just months later, “the last pro-life Democrat” decided millions of innocent lives weren’t worth political pressure, so he voted to allow the abortion provider to receive taxpayer funding.

“Planned Parenthood has not been found to be in violation of any federal laws,” the senator said at the time. “I am committed to ensuring women have access to quality health care, like cancer screenings and wellness visits, and that our health care providers are in compliance with federal law.”

In 2017, Donnelly voted against President Trump’s plan to deny states the ability to use federal Title X funds for abortion providers. In 2018, he voted against another amendment that would have stopped taxpayer funding from going to abortion corporations like Planned Parenthood, earning him the title “Deceptive Donnelly” from Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony List.

“Pro-life Hoosiers cannot trust deceptive Joe Donnelly to stand up for unborn children. Senator Donnelly claims to be pro-life, but he has a history of betrayal on important pro-life votes, including today when he once again voted in support of sending taxpayer dollars to America’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood. His record is dramatically out of step with his constituents,” she said.

Despite Biden’s best attempts to undermine and disrespect the Vatican’s importance — and there have been many — no temporal power can diminish the church. Historically, the ambassadorship has been taken seriously and, for the most part, has been occupied by faithful Catholics.

Giovanni Sartori was the first American counsel to the Papal States. His appointment, made by Pope Pius VII, marked the first secular envoy in the early history of our nation. Unlike self-proclaimed Catholic politicians today, Sartori took his influence seriously.

In 1804, New Jersey, the ambassador’s home state, didn’t have a single Catholic church. So, Sartori and his wife offered their New Jersey “Rosy Hill” mansion for missionary priests to conduct the Holy Mass once a month.

In 1814, when the local Catholic worshippers numbered too many for his home, Sartori and his neighbor, Capt. John Hargous, bought a plot of land and constructed a small wooden church. St. John’s church became New Jersey’s first Catholic parish, and the parish remains to this day.

While the relationship has not endured without conflict, the Holy See — the official governing body of Vatican City — has maintained communication with the United States for centuries. During the Civil War, Pius IX encouraged bishops in the Union and Confederacy to make peace. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s personal representative to the Holy See Myron Charles Taylor successfully persuaded Pope Pius XII to speak out against Nazi Germany in the 1940s.

It shouldn’t be a novel idea for America to present an ambassador to the Vatican who firmly believes and upholds the dignity of the Catholic Church. Our “Catholic” president should know this.

The Holy See is the world’s oldest diplomatic entity. It doesn’t deserve a heretic as a representative. It’s hard enough for the Catholic Church to look upon Biden with charity after he’s made it easier for millions of Americans to defy important church teachings.

Why Biden thinks Donnelly, who can’t even decide if babies’ limbs should be ripped from them in the womb or not, is a fitting representative for the Catholic Church is beyond logic. But it’s not beyond surprise.

What else can we expect from a president who so blatantly blasphemes his own faith? During his time in office, Biden has used Catholicism as a political tool, signaling to lukewarm left-wingers that it’s OK for them to defy God for politics. Donnelly’s appointment is just another sacrilege.

Evil is real, and evil is present in Biden and the rest of the Catholic Democrats who promulgate anti-Christian sentiment and policies. The devil uses such “faithful” to make others faithless — and somewhere along the way, in the malaise of political ambition and woke culture, the devil infiltrated Catholic politicians to the point that they can’t even admit all human life is made in God’s image.

Pray for our leaders, and pray they can properly represent the millions of young souls who are now enjoying the peace of Heaven. Pray also that no more lives are sacrificed on the political altar by Catholic apostates who have abandoned the protection of human dignity.

Raiders Coach Jon Gruden Steps Down After Old Emails Surface

Jon Gruden has resigned as coach of the Las Vegas Raiders after emails he sent before being hired in 2018 contained racist, homophobic and misogynistic comments.

Gruden released a statement Monday night, saying: “I have resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction. Thank you to all the players, coaches, staff, and fans of Raider Nation. I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone.”

He stepped down after The New York Times reported that Gruden frequently used misogynistic and homophobic language directed at Commissioner Roger Goodell and others in the NFL.

Special teams and assistant head coach Rich Bisaccia will take over on an interim basis.

It was a rapid downfall for Gruden, who is in the fourth year of a 10-year, $100 million contract he signed with the Raiders in 2018. It started on Friday when the Wall Street Journal reported that Gruden used a racist term to describe NFL union chief DeMaurice Smith in a 2011 email to former Washington executive Bruce Allen.

The emails were discovered in a workplace misconduct investigation into the Washington Football Team but ended up costing Gruden his job when they also showed Gruden denounced the drafting of a gay player and the tolerance of players protesting during the playing of the national anthem among other issues.

Gruden apologized for his “insensitive remarks” about Smith, saying they were made out of frustration over the 2011 lockout. But the latest emails sent from between 2011-18 when Gruden was an analyst for ESPN show his use of derogatory language went well beyond that.

A league source confirms the accuracy of the emails and said they were sent to the Raiders last week. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the league hasn’t made the emails public.

Raiders owner Mark Davis said last week that the email about Smith was “disturbing and not what the Raiders stand for” and said the team was reviewing the additional emails. Davis issued a statement Monday saying only that he accepted Gruden’s resignation.

The Times reported that Gruden used a gay slur to insult Goodell and said he was “clueless” and “anti-football.” He also said Goodell shouldn’t have pressured the Rams to draft “queers,” a reference to Michael Sam, who was the first openly gay player drafted by an NFL team.

Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib came out as gay in June and is the first openly gay player to appear in an NFL game.

In a 2017 email, the Times said Gruden responded to a sexist meme of a female official by saying: “Nice job roger.”

The paper also said Gruden criticized Goodell and the NFL league for trying to reduce concussions, and said that Eric Reid, a player who had demonstrated during the playing of the national anthem, should be fired.

The newspaper said Gruden also mocked an article in 2017 about players calling on Goodell to support their efforts promoting racial equality and criminal justice reform.

“He needs to hide in his concussion protocol tent,” Gruden wrote.

Gruden and Allen have a long relationship, having worked together in Oakland and Tampa Bay. The emails between the two and other men included photos of women wearing only bikini bottoms, including one photo of two Washington team cheerleaders.

Gruden also criticized President Barack Obama during his re-election campaign in 2012, and then-vice president Joe Biden.

Smith said earlier Monday that he appreciates that Gruden reached out to him following the initial report, but that the email is evidence that the fight against racism is ongoing.

“But make no mistake, the news is not about what is said in our private conversation, but what else is said by people who never thought they would be exposed and how they are going to be held to account,” Smith wrote in a Twitter thread.

Gruden’s comments to Allen about Smith came during the 2011 lockout of the players by the NFL. Gruden told the Wall Street Journal he was angry about the lockout during labor negotiations and he didn’t trust the direction the union was taking.

“Dumboriss Smith has lips the size of michellin tires,” Gruden wrote in the email reviewed by the newspaper.

Davis had been trying to hire Gruden almost since he took charge following the death of his father, Al, in 2011. He finally got his prize in 2018 when Gruden agreed to leave ESPN and return to the sideline with a 10-year contract. Gruden had revived the Raiders in is first stint in 1998-2001 and then beat them in the Super Bowl the following season after he was traded to Tampa Bay for a boatload of draft picks.

Gruden has a 117-112 career record but hasn’t won a playoff game since the Super Bowl victory over the Raiders in the 2002 season.

His second tenure with the team started with a pep rally introductory news conference but provided few reasons for celebration as Gruden had a 22-31 record, failing to reach a winning record or make the playoffs.

He traded away stars Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper in his first season to start a rebuild, which has showed only minor progress. After the Raiders went 4-12 in his first season, Gruden tried to make a push in 2019 in the team’s final season in Oakland by spending heavily in free agency and trading for star receiver Antonio Brown. But Brown was cut before the season after a series of run-ins with management, and the Raiders went 7-9.

They improved to 8-8 last season and got off to a promising 3-0 start this year before losing the past two games.

Bisaccia has been a special teams coordinator in the NFL for 19 seasons with the Raiders, Chargers, Dallas and Tampa Bay. He has no head coaching experience but his elevation will allow other assistants such as defensive coordinator Gus Bradley to stay in their current roles.

Top 1% Now Has More Wealth Than Entire Middle Class

In some ways, we sympathize with Neel Kashkari’s fake “concern” about the unprecedented wealth inequality that has emerged in the US in recent years and which has resulted in a slow, methodical and relentless destruction of the US middle class … or rather make that precedented because there was another time when the top 0.1% had amassed as much wealth and it was just before the Great Depression.

After all, who hasn’t seen charts such as these showing the tremendous divergence in income earned by America’s Top 1% at the expense of the middle and lower classes:

Or that the top 10% now own 70% of all the US wealth, the same as the middle and lower classes combined…

… up 10% from the 60% of wealth they controlled at the start of the century.

Yet we find Kashkari’s “jaw-dropping” virtue signalling proposal to grant the Fed wealth redistribution power not only laughable but absolutely terrifying: after all it was the Fed’s ZIRP and QE that was behind the greatest wealth redistribution in the past decade…

… a redistribution that started almost 50 years ago, when Nixon decided to end the Fed’s biggest nemesis – the US gold standard – launching an unprecedented increase in income growth for the “Top 1%”, even as the income of the “Bottom 90%” has remained unchanged ever since 1971.

For those confused, Rabobank’s Michael Every put it best: of course the Fed can redistribute wealth but “that redistribution has been from the poor and middle-class to the rich, not the other way round.“

Unfortunately, as we showed back in November 2019, it may already be too late to fix the US: as the following stunning chart shows, the US is already effectively a banana republic if one defines such a nation as one which has a small but ultrapowerful and unaccountable kleptocracy which gets richer year after year by stealing from the rapidly shrinking middle class.

Here is the problem: while the US has one one of the highest median incomes in the entire world, with only three countries boasting a higher income, it is who gets to collect this money that is the major problem, because as the chart also shows, with just a 50% share of the population in middle-income households, the US is now in the same category as such “banana republics” as Turkey, China and, drumroll, Russia.

What is just as stunning: according to the OECD, more than half of the countries in question have a more vibrant middle class than the US.

Alas, since November 2019 it has only gotten worse… much worse because as a result of the unprecedented wealth redistribution unleashed by the covid pandemic, America’s has truly cemented its banana republic status as the wealth of the top 1% exploded as a direct result of the Fed pumping trillions into the stock market and levitating asset values, while the lower and middle classes stagnated.

Two weeks ago, when discussing the latest US record household net worth number, which hit an all time high of $142 trillion or up $31 trillion since Covid, we showed that it would be great if this wealth increase was spread evenly across most Americans, but unfortunately, most Americans have not benefited from recent gains in wealth.

Indeed, the latest data as of Q1 shows that the top 1% accounts for over $41.5 trillion of total household net worth, with the number rising to over $90 trillion for just the top 10%. Meanwhile, the bottom half of the US population has virtually no assets at all. On a percentage basis, just the Top 1% now own a record 32.1% share of total US net worth, or $45.6 trillion. In other words, the richest Americans have never owned a greater share of US household income than they do, largely thanks to the Fed. Meanwhile, the bottom 50% own just 2% of all net worth, or a paltry $2.8 trillion. They do own most of the debt though…

And the saddest chart of all: the wealth of the bottom 50% is virtually unchanged since 2006, while the net worth of the Top 1% has risen by 132% from $17.9 trillion to $41.5 trillion.

All of which brings us to the latest update from the Fed on Household Wealth distribution published on Friday and covering the second quarter of 2021, and which revealed yet another jawdropping fact about America’s full transformation into a banana republic.

According to the Fed data, which breaks down the distribution of wealth according to income quintile (or 20% bucket) with a special carve out for the top 1%, the middle 60% of US households by income (those in the 20% to 80% income range) – a measure economists use as a definition of the middle class – saw their combined assets drop from 26.7% to 26.6% of national wealth as of June, the lowest in Federal Reserve data, while for the first time the super rich had a bigger share, at 27%.

While especially true for the top 1%, it is all the rich that have benefited at the expense of the extinction of the US middle class – as the next chart shows, over the past 30 years, 10 percentage points of American wealth has shifted to the top 20% of earners, who now hold 70% of the total. The bottom 80% are left with less than 30%.

Some context: while “middle class” is a fluid concept, many economists use income to define the group. The 77.5 million families in the middle 60% make about $27,000 to $141,000 annually, based on Census Bureau data. As Bloomberg notes, their share in three main categories of assets – real estate, equities and private businesses – slumped in one generation. That made their lives more precarious, with fewer financial reserves to fall back on when they lose their jobs.

On the other end, the top 1% represents those 1.3 million households out of a total of almost 130 million, who roughly make more than $500,000 a year. The concentration of wealth in the hands of a fraction of the population is at the core of some of the country’s major political battles. It was also made possible entirely by the Fed, which as Stanley Druckenmiller said back in May echoing what we have said since our inception back in 2009, has been the single “greatest engine of wealth inequality” in history (to which we would also add the end of the gold standard under Nixon).

“If the economic system isn’t working for the clear majority of the population, it will eventually lose political support,” Nathan Sheets, newly appointed chief economist at Citigroup Inc., said by email. “This observation is motivating many of the economic reforms that the Biden Administration is putting forward.”

And while Joe Biden is seeking to “bolster” working- and middle-class families with a $3.5 trillion package before Congress that includes assistance with child care, education and health care paid for with tax increases on high-income individuals, what he will do is make the rich even richer as the Fed will have to monetize all those trillions in new debt, boosting risk asset prices even higher, and while the middle class spends any one-time fiscal stimulus merely to cover soaring costs of everyday items like rent and gas, it is the top 1% who will benefit the most again as they stock portfolios hit new all time highs.

It’s not just stocks that have benefited the super rich: housing has too. While a generation ago, the middle class held more than 44% of real estate assets in the country, it is now down to 38%. The pandemic generated a boom in housing values that has benefited most those who owned real estate in the first place. It also led to soaring rents this year, which hurt those who can’t afford a house. The self-feeding loop was yet another source of wealth transfer for the wealthier.

So the next time someone abuses the popular phrase “they hate us for our [fill in the blank]”, perhaps it’s time to counter that “they” may not “hate” us at all, but rather are making fun of what has quietly and slowly but surely become the world’s biggest banana republic?

And it has not Russia, nor China, nor any other foreign enemy to blame except one: the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States.

Is the Global Tax Rate A Good or Bad Idea?

As economic woes deepen across the globe from breaks in the supply chain, rising inflation rates and debt defaults, the one thing leaders from around the world seem to agree on is that there should be a global minimum tax rate for all wealthy companies to pay their fair share back to the people and governments that they serve.

Looking at the state of the world today, many would agree with the idea and share the belief that something like this could actually be a great thing. The gap between the rich and the poor has never been greater than it is now, so if we can collectively decide to do what we can to help bring that divide together, I say that it is a good thing. Even still, I have questions on how the matter will come together.

My first question would be how will the money that is collected from this tax be used? Looking at governments today and how they handle themselves with the tax dollars they collect from our pockets as we work, this seems to be the most important question to ask of the idea. Many would agree with the thought that our tax dollars here in the United States are often misused and misplaced, being used to pay for things that regular working folks do not want. The potential for the same to happen with these global tax dollars certainly exists, but it doesn’t have to be the case. Are these tax dollars going to be used to further empower governments over their people? Or can these tax dollars actually be used to lift up the people who work at the bottom of the wealth spectrum? If the tax money is used to lift up the poor into a greater sense of well being and to close the wealth gap, then I believe this has the power to be a great thing. If this tax money is used to further empower governments rather than the people that they serve, I’m not so sure that this will be a good thing. I suppose it really just depends on who has the control over what happens to the tax money collected. On that note, the people should be able to vote or choose for themselves where this tax money will be directed, and I believe that same system of thought could be used in our local governments world wide. Let the people choose what happens with the taxes that they pay for, but that is just my opinion.

The second question I would have is how is this extra tax burden going to affect innovation from some of our most productive and powerful companies? With all of this talk about the future of technology between the powers of the United States and China, how will this extra tax burden change the flexibility of companies to spend money on creating new and better things for ourselves and our allies? Will Chinese companies also be dedicated to paying for this tax?

Regardless of these questions, it seems like countries are coming to agreement that this tax is a necessity and are moving forward with plans of doing so. As of this week, 136 countries have signed on to the agreement, with the most recent countries to jump on board including Ireland, Hungary and Estonia. They joined as the agreement adjusted to say that they would not be raising the tax rate from 15%, and that the companies being taxed would be at a high enough bracket to where it wouldn’t affect any smaller or more local companies. Also, any large company that makes profits within a specific country are set to have to pay the tax, no matter where their physical headquarters exist.

The deal still needs for each country to pass its own domestic legislation to be included in the future tax, so the potential this has for being enacted across the world still has a long way to go. The expectation is that this global minimum tax will begin to take effect in 2023. It is expected that the United States will not move forward in implementing such a tax until around 2025. So even with all the talk of agreement for the moment, you can see that even with the rough estimates this idea has a long way to go before it becomes any sort of reality.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife gave nearly $420million to nonprofits that aided in the administration and infrastructure of the 2020 election, and heavily favored Democrat counties, according to a new report.

Zuckerberg, 37, and his wife Priscilla Chan, 36, donated $419.5million to The Center for Technology and Civic Life (CTCL) and The Center for Election Innovation and Research (CEIR), which the report says was given with specific conditions.

Using the donations, both CTCL and CEIR sent funds to local governments to implement administrative practices, voting methods, data-sharing agreements, and outreach programs for the 2020 elections.

Analysis shows Biden-winning counties were three times more likely to get funding from the organizations than Trump ones, and the Democrats were reportedly given a significant boost in key swing states through promotion of practices that have typically favoured their vote tally, such as mail-in voting.

The bombshell report – published in the Federalist on Tuesday – sparked outrage from senior Republicans, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis blasting the Facebook founder during a news conference and saying recent election reform had ‘banned Zuckerbucks’ in the state.+6Mark Zuckerberg, 37, and his wife Priscilla Chan, 36, funneled $419.5million into two nonprofits that largely funded Democratic areas in the 2020 election.

CTCL grants, which largely went to Democrat-heavy counties, boosted the dollar per vote value of a Biden voter. A Biden-wining county was 3.5 times more likely to be funded by CTCL and Trump, and on average the dollar per vote for Biden was $2.85 compared to only $0.59 for Trump. In Philadelphia, the highest funded Biden county, the average dollar per vote was $6.32 compared to Berks, the highest funded Trump county, which was only $1.12.

Zuckerberg’s contributions to the groups nearly matched the federal and state funding for COVID-19 related election expenses, which totaled $479.5million during the 2020 election.

How Zuckerberg’s CTCL funding helped flip Wisconsin back to Joe Biden

When Wisconsin voted for Donald Trump in 2016 after voting for Barack Obama in both 2008 and 2012, Hillary Clinton and the Democrats were shaken.

Four years later, Joe Biden would go on to take the state by just 20,000 votes.

Now, in her new book ‘Rigged: How the Media, Big Tech, and the Democrats Seized Our Elections’, Mollie Hemingway claims the state is a prime example of how a nonpartisan group helped flip the state back to blue.

The Center for Technology and Civic Life, handed $350 million by Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg, gave $6.7 million to Wisconsin towards ‘get out to vote’ initiatives.

Half of those funds went to Madison and Milwaukee – both blue counties.

In addition, the Wisconsin legislature gave the city of Green Bay roughly $7 per voter to manage the election, while rural areas received $4 per voter.

But CTCL boosted resources in Green Bay, a Democrat-heavy area, to $47 per voter, while rural counties typically stayed at the $4 mark.

In the case of Brown County in Wisconsin, which Trump won, a $1.1million grant was given from the nonprofit, which totaled only a mere 1.2 per cent of the grants offered within the 25 counties.

According to analysis done by Caesar Rodney Election Research Institute, similar funding disparities occurred in counties near Detroit, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Flint, Mich., Dallas, Houston to name a few.

‘So, Zuckerberg, he spent over $400 million through these, quote, nonprofits to, quote, help with election administration,’ DeSantis said.

‘But what they would do is they would require certain things to be done like mass mail balloting, ballot harvesting, and they would focus on partisan voter turnout, basically. That was totally unacceptable.’

Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin – one state that was reportedly targeted by the non-profit’s practices – said: ‘I continue to question whether Mark Zuckerberg’s highly partisan 2020 election spending was even legal.’

And Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky tweeted: ‘Are our elections for sale? Did Mark Zuckerberg purchase the Wisconsin Presidential election?’

While CTCL and CEIR are both non-partisan organisations, the report calls the non-profits ‘demonstrably ideological’, and claims both likely contributed to the record-breaking turnout that led to Joe Biden’s win in 2020.

Zuckerberg’s funds may have helped get more voters to the polls in Arizona, which Biden won by 10,000 and Georgia, which he won by 12,000, according to analysis by the Caesar Rodney Election Research Institute – a Delaware-based think tank.

‘We have good reason to anticipate that the results of our work will show that CTCL and CEIR involvement in the 2020 election gave rise to an election that, while free, was not fair,’ wrote Dr. William Doyle, the principle researcher behind the analysis.

‘The 2020 election wasn’t stolen — it was likely bought with money poured through legal loopholes,’ he concludes in the report.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative gave an eye-watering $350 million to CTCL in 2020 – while the nonprofit’s budget in 2018 was just $1.4 million.

A total of $64.2million of Zuckerberg’s money was distributed by CEIR to 22 states and the District of Columbia.

CTCL reportedly demanded the promotion of mail-in voting practices – which was heavily supported by the Democrats – and also helped fund poll workers and temporary staff, and the quick increase of unmonitored private drop boxes for mail-in votes.

And in Wisconsin the money funded ‘vote navigators’ who ‘assist voters, potentially at their front doors, to answer questions … and witness absentee ballot signatures.’

Zuckerberg’s contributions to the groups nearly matched the federal and state funding for COVID-19 related election expenses, which totaled $479.5million during the 2020 election.

Despite CTCL and CEIR being registered as non-partisan organizations, the Institute’s analysis found that groups allocated their money in mainly Democratic areas.

CTCL provided 25 counties with $1million or higher grants in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia, totaling $87.5million in grants. Biden won 23 of those counties in the election.

Brown County in Wisconsin, which Trump won, received a $1.1million grant from the nonprofit, which totaled only a mere 1.2 per cent of the grants offered within the 25 counties.

But within the county, funding disparities were stark.

Preliminary studies of CTCL spending showed states like Texas received large amounts of money per vote in Democratic counties, such as Dallas, Webb, Cameron, and Harris – all of which Hillary Clinton won in the 2016 election.

The most money per vote a Republican county was allocated by the CTCL group was under $2 in Hays county compared to the highest Democratic county, which received $10 in Webb county.

Republican strongholds, like Denton and Collin counties, were not included in the Institute’s study as they did not receive CTCL funding.

The Institute also found that Biden counties were 3.5 more likely to receive funding from CTCL. In addition, Trump counties received on average $0.69, whereas Biden counties received an average of $2.85 per capita.

What are nonprofits CTCL and CEIR and how are they involved in elections

The Center for Technology and Civic Life (CTCL) and The Center for Election Innovation and Research (CEIR) both provided funds to local governments during the 2020 elections.

While the two non-profits are officially non-partisan, they have been described in the report as ‘demonstrably ideological’.

Research by the Caesar Rodney Election Research Institute shows that the think tanks provided funding to local governments to implement practices that largely favoured the Democrat party.

These included administrative practices, voting methods, data-sharing agreements, and outreach programs, according to the report.

CTCL was founded in 2015 by Tiana Epps-Johnson, Whitney May and Donny Bridges, all of whom worked as election officials or administrators in the past.

All three of its founders previously worked for a now-defunct organization called the New Organizing Institute, that was run by a former Obama staffer to train left-leaning activists in digital campaign strategy.

On its website, CTCL says: ‘We connect Americans with the information they need to become and remain civically engaged, and ensure that our elections are more professional, inclusive, and secure.’

CEIR, meanwhile, was founded by David Becke in August 2016.

Before founding the non-profit, he worked as director Pew Charitable Trust’s elections program and as a trial attorney for the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.

Becker said in a video hosted on the organization’s website that he founded CEIR ‘in response to the historic decline in voter turnout and the impending threat of foreign interference that seeks to further divide our nation and depress citizen engagement.’

According to CEIR’s website, the non-profit ‘is an innovative non-profit with a proven track record of working with election experts from around the country and from both sides of the aisle. We seek to build voter trust and confidence, increase voter participation, and improve the efficiency of election administration.’

Similar analyses of Georgia and Wisconsin resulted in similar effects, according to the Institute’s report, which found that the CTCL gave $6.7 million to Wisconsin. Half of those funds went to Madison and Milwaukee – both blue.

In the case of CTCL, all three of its founders previously worked for a now-defunct organization called the New Organizing Institute (NIO), that was run by a former Obama staffer to train left-leaning activists in digital campaign strategy.

In 2014, the Washington Post called the ‘NIO’ the ‘the left’s think tank for campaign know-how’ and ‘the Democratic Party’s Hogwarts for digital wizardry.’

The nonprofits defended their roles.

‘These grants helped states inform voters about changes to election procedures, polling locations, and recruit poll workers in response to the pandemic,’ David Becker, the founder and executive director of CEIR said.

CTCL spokesman Ben LaBolt told the Post: ‘While Mark and Priscilla provided an overall grant to CTCL [to] ensure funding was available, they did not participate in the process to determine which jurisdictions received funds, and as a [nonprofit organization] CTCL is prohibited from engaging in partisan activities.’

Funding and managing election is typically a government function, not a private one. Private organizations, such as CTCL and CEIR, do not have to follow the same regulations as public institutions.

They are not required to hold public hearings, cannot be monitored through open-records requests, or are subject to governmental checks and balances.

Biden won the popular election with 81,283,098 votes (51.3 per cent), while Trump had 74,222,958 (46.8 per cent).

Facebook has repeatedly come under scrutiny for the impact it has on democracy.

Last year, U.S. intelligence officials warned House lawmakers that Russia was interfering in the 2020 campaign to get then-president Donald Trump re-elected, while there was also a well-documented campaign to interfere in 2016 as well.

The social media behemoth – and its ability to police misinformation – has been at the centre of discussions around such election meddling, with Mark Zuckerberg himself saying his company has shut down attempts from Russia to interfere.

In another example, a data leak from Trump‘s 2016 presidential campaign revealed that it targeted millions of black Americans with a ‘deterrence’ campaign using Facebook ads – that critics calling voter suppression.

The leak, reported by Britain’s Channel 4 News, described the deterrence element of the campaign voter file, which included information on 200 million Americans that the campaign sliced and diced for potential electoral benefit.
