Get to Know Pat Hennessy of Easy Killer
If you don’t know who Easy Killer are and you live in Connecticut you must be living under a rock. They’re easily one of the most talked about and fun to watch bands in the state. They are consistently playing top notch shows with some great bands, including a recent show with California Legends Agent Orange.
What got you into punk rock?
PH- So I’ve alway been into alternative/heavier music, but believe it or not Good Charlotte’s “Young And The Hopeless” really ignited my interest in punk. Id always have it in my CD player for long car rides, or even just tooling around on my bike. Which then lead me to listen to bands like AFI, The Descendants, My Chemical Romance (their first CD), The Casualties, The Unseen, Copyright Chaos, The Havnotz, Sadplant, etc etc.. Once you open the punk pandora’s box, there is no rest.
2. What’s the best way to describe Easy Killer?
PH- Loud, fast, quirky. I think the best thing about our band is that because we cover three styles of music (Punk, Hardcore, Ska) It allows people to take our music however they want. Theres a little of something for everyone in our sound.
3. For anyone looking in from the outside, what is the best thing about the Connecticut punk scene?
PH- The community of people. The love that everyone seems to have for each other, non bias. The support everyone receives from each other is overwhelming, and cannot be said for a lot of similar scenes in neighboring states. People always are shocked when I say that the punk scene in CT is alive and well. Ive been around the scene since around 2006, and I can’t even say I’d have anything bad to say about it through all the years.
4. Operation Ivy or Rancid?
PH- You can’t do that to me….. But if I had to choose, Rancid. And they now have one of the best punk drummers (Branden Steineckert) rocking for them, so it makes it even better.
5. What’s your favorite stage in the State?
PH- Favorite stage to play would have to be Cafe 9, or Three Sheets. There is something about a tiny ass stage, and people right up front; practically with their face in your crotch that makes the shows that much better. I wouldn’t know what thats like cause I’m in the back always, but I still get really hyped on shows like that.
6. If you can join another CT punk band for a day/show who would it be?
PH- I always love watching the boys in Cry Havoc run their set. Jonny’s energy gets me fired up. And there fast, almost thrash like drum beats make me wanna drop kick Snyder off the kick so I can play. haha. But yeah, Cry Havoc cause they fucking rule.
7. What’s your favorite pizza topping?
PH- This is going to sound lame as shit, but the best kind of pizza is a plain cheese. If a pizza joint doesn’t have a good plain cheese pizza, then everything else they have will be junk. All that aside, artichokes are a solid topping.
8. What are your top 5 favorite records?
PH- At this juncture in my music life, they are in no particular order:
1- ”Guilty Of Everything” - Nothing
2- “Renacer” - Senses Fail - Side note, they came back after there mid 2000’s emo phase with anger, and it rips.
3- “Ours is Chrome” - Superheaven
4- “ Sway” - Whirr
5- “No Peace” - Trash Talk
I could go on and on with this.
9. What are you currently listening to?
“Gauze” by Gleemer. Sad boy tunes from Colorado.
10. What does the future hold for Easy Killer?
PH -Hopefully a lot more. We’ve been a band for 4 years give or take. And I feel like we have covered a lot of ground in that short period of time; Hopefully some touring, a new record (coming soon), and sharing the stage with some more
awesome bands. And always to make some more ears bleed, haha. Oh yeah, and some guest vocals on the record. I think that would be cool.
