I know unicorns in modern media are kind of relegated to cutsie, MLP, rainbow plastic toys, or shitting rainbows, 'lets go to candy mountain' but man. I WISH more fantasy media would put them in unironically. There is so much symbolic and narrative potential in a creature that is, depending on your mythology:

A guardian of wild spaces, the embodiment of nature untouched by mankind's industry and greed. Fewer and farther between.

The ideal of "Purity" made manifest, elusive and powerful and hunted for fruitlessly by many a person. To kill. To actually kill. Living symbol of the oh-so-coveted Purity, not treated as a sacred thing to protect, or even predated for food to survive off, but a trophy for knights and lords to boast about.

So absolutely fierce and deadly that no one smart dared to fight it fairly. A gentle maiden had to betray it into resting in her lap so that a man could spear it while its guard was down.

Able to heal any wound no matter how severe - it promised miracles, if you could find one.

A creature who's magic vanished if it was captured or killed. In trying to take control of it, you destroyed it. Some things can only be given by free will, and no amount of personal desire or brute force can change that.

I made a few bases. I was going to make actual Bestiary entries to go with them but I WILL go insane if I try and draw anymore detailed drawings like these. Maybe another day when I'm slightly more mentally stable. I'll add more whenever I have the time to make more. All in all, have fun, I don't care what you do with these.

Imagine being an elder god's favorite. Like, some cosmic unknowable entity just takes a liking to you. Like your it's favorite bug in its back yard because you have a trait that it decided it finds neat.

It's not like it's going to put you in a jar on it's desk, it's a mostly caring elder god and knows that that hurts its favorite humans and that they don't like that (it's tried that before). It just gives you think it knows you'll like. Wings, real ones that can fly and fold behind you back when you don't want people to see them. Immortality, at least by the standards of your tiny human timescale. Beauty, or at least what it thinks humans probably find beautiful (it's mostly seen buildings for reference). The ability to talk to entities most humans can't. Knowledge of the stars.

You can refuse these gifts if you don't like them. They're all things that mean nothing to the elder god, but mean everything to you.

sorry for turning this blog into a wof blog for a week but like wouldn’t it be neat if every tribe had their own mythos to how their tribe got their abilities

ice wings have the great ice dragon, which was said to have created the ice wings from its own breath to protect the arctic kingdom

sky wings believe there was a brave skywing that flew into the sun and brought back fire so that their tribe could defend itself, which also made them the first firescales

nightwings believe they fell from the stars

et cetera ya catch my drift?
