Rachel Corrie, an American citizen, was murdered, repeatedly run over by a bulldozer as she stood in defense of Palestinians.

Her family was threatened and anyone who spoke about her was smeared as an antisemite including Alan Rickman who wrote and directed a play about her.

To this day she is remembered and honoured as a martyr in Palestine.

While, at the time, her death was mocked in Israel by putting her face on pancakes.

Science paper documents that gender-affirming care helps transgender kids

Emily Georges, Emily C.B. Brown and Rachel Silliman Cohen of the Seattle Children’s Hospital have published a paper in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, on prejudice against transgender and gender diverse children (TGD).

They argue that the current bans of transgender health care for youth in the US fuel discriminatory rhetoric, which negatively impacts the mental health of TGD children and imperils their safety.

They write:

GAC [gender affirming care ] is not child physical abuse. Unlike child physical abuse, GAC does not cause harm to children. Instead, it decreases many negative health outcomes, including rates of depression, and improves well-being for children and adolescents. GAC has not been shown to lead to short- or long-term negative health effects, and in fact, the benefits of GAC have been shown to far outweigh the risks....

Research highlights how transgender youth disproportionately experience negative mental health outcomes, including anxiety, depression, and suicidality. However, when children are supported in their gender identities and have access to GAC, they have better mental health outcomes. Some studies demonstrate that appropriate GAC, in the context of caregiver support, entirely mitigates the increased risk of depression and suicidal ideation for TGD youth.
