I have a question for yall. How spicy do you ACTUALLY think the Better in Black stories will be?

I don't really think Cassie has ever written chili-pepper scenes in TSC proper besides with Blackstairs and Herondaisy. And in neither of those cases was the scene full-on explicit.

But also, BiB is a self-published project, and she has teased it as "spicy". But "spicy" is subjective, and I'm wondering what you think it means for BiB. Steamy YA stuff like in the Blackstairs and Herondaisy scenes? M-rated om page but not anatomical sex scenes? E-rated, anatomical sex scenes?

I personally think that it's going to be heavily dependent on the story. We know the Herondaisy story will have a second wedding runes scene and therefore it will have smut. This smut will imo be on par with A Single Chant and it'll be cute and emotional. I think the Sebastian/SQ story will have heavy smut because she's clearly trying her hand at Dark Fae Romance (which will be Interesting), and I think the Blackstairs story will have heavily explicit weird kinky shit because... well.

In all these cases, I think the smut will be part of a larger story. One cannot have 50 pages of smut. It's not possible. I'm glad of it. I want adorable Herondaisy fluff and adventure, and if I had to read 50 pages of Sebastian or Julian fucking I'd bleach my eyes.

But some stories imo will probably have no spice at all - I don't think Thomastair will get a sex scene (I'm not complaining - I actually don't care about sex scenes one way or the other). Theirs seems like it'll be a fluffy romcom that also involves a literal infant. I can't see her writing on-page steam for Wessa or Arianna beyond implied sex, and Luke/Jocelyn weren't even together when their story took place.

What do you guys think?

When you just realised that in the entirety of TSC, there are only two lesbian couples (Arianna, Heline) and one of them is just a side couple, and you see Arianna in Better in Black.

And then you're sorta optimistic, 'cause now you're hoping for Heline too.

You go through the rest, and you're pleasantly surprised to find Kierarktina, Thomastair, and Sizzy too.

But then you are mentally disturbed, because you also found SEBASTIAN AND THE SEELIE QUEEN instead.

I HAVE QUESTIONS.

Why, CC, why? Is it to give context on the birth of Ash Morgenstern? Is it the Seelie Queen telling Sebastian she's pregnant? Because they definitely don't have that kind of relationship, the kind we actually ship. Better in Black's theme is love and romance, but what love and romance is there between them? They were just using each other, and Sebastian died! Is this an easter-egg story where we find out some things about TWP? Is their Better in Black story not exactly about Sebastian and the Seelie Queen at all? CC, you better not be playing with us.

Onto a slightly less bewildering topic, am I the only Malec fan who wasn't surprised to not find a story about them in Better in Black? Like HELLO, they are the TSC couple with the highest amount of content, even more than Clace. Apart from TMI, they have their own separate series, four short stories, and are included in other series as well (TDA, TWP). And the amount of ART on them is wild. So no, I am not unhappy that CC didn't include them. While I wouldn't have minded if she had either, you have to admit she was only being reasonable.

I feel like no one's talking up the Sebastian/Seelie Queen story and we really all should be pumped about this one because it's going to eat. It's going to be so unique and individualistic and fascinating. A toxic and doomed-by-the-narrative ship will be... such a thing to see.

thought about it some more and if nobody else will hype up the Luke & Jocelyn story i will. especially if the "in the past" is referring to the circle era like. I'm always excited for circle content they never fail to make me insane

think about it!! Valentine from their perspective, the two people who loved him the most, while they're in the thick of it is going to be crazy. his wife and his parabatai. also I'm fairly certain there's a quote where Jocelyn says if she knew that Luke loved her back then she wouldve made a difference choice like this story is going to be great i can feel it. just the fact CC is going out of her way to include it over something more popular means that it's something she really wants to share & that makes me really excited. I hope it rewires my brain <3
