I pitch this to friends as Cowboy Bebop the game, can you even get cooler than that? You play as outlaw bounty hunters in space, going from planet to planet trying to scrape together a living and getting into even more trouble as you go. Warning for themes and mechanics of trauma and addiction (in addition to the violence inherent to the bounty hunter thing); it can get heavy depending on how you play it, but given the kind of media it’s inspired by, that’s pretty much expected.
The game is mechanically unique, but not too difficult to get the hang of; everything is very well explained and there are examples and tips alongside the rules. Stats are assigned dice (d6 through d12), there are some group mechanics like money and the Starship itself to keep track of, and more roleplay-focused things like Talents and Debt. The creator describes it as a game where rule-of-cool is part of the rules, and I find it flexible and fun, geared towards letting players do cool, flashy, narratively interesting things.
Mod Note: No mod note, this game’s just good

Have you played THOUSAND YEAR OLD VAMPIRE ?
by Tim Hutchings
Tumblr media
Thousand Year Old Vampire is a solo RPG where you play as a vampire gaining and then losing memories over the centuries. As you play through the game, you choose which memories to record in a diary, and eventually, what diaries you lose.
The game also includes alternate rules for two players where you write letters to each other.

World Ending Game - Saying Goodbye With Style
“Think about screenplays and films, or the final episode of a television show that you know will not be renewed. Think about saying goodbye to friends who are moving away. Think about the last day of summer vacation. Think about funerals. Think about the restaurant that closed all those years ago, and the noodles they used to serve. Think about the best birthday party you ever had. Think about…

about halfway through character classes in ravenous, but I wanted to share this "your character starts with an item" table because I think it's a good example of lore tidbits (special shoutout to tumblr for giving me the idea for #8)

There should be a fanfic writing game called the showrunners challenge where someone writes a story and partway through someone else can play things like "actor leaves after 4000 more words" or "topic now too politically sensitive due to unforeseen world events" or "lost rights to that reference"

I think about how hayao miyazaki said that love is two people inspiring each other to live. and to live doesn’t just mean to be alive. living involves finding beauty in the simple moments of being. so to inspire someone to be in awe of the simplicity of living? that’s special

In ancient times, a “bus” was a sort of terrestrial beast. the people of the time harnessed their regular territorial patrol routes by climbing down their maw. buses had complex a nerve system threading throughout their bodies. passengers found that pressing down on certain nodes of this system sent an electrical signal to the creatures brain, causing it to stop moving and open its jaws, allowing passengers to dismount.
