I may have been and still is a gen 4 girl but the designs has really degraded in some odd, “moe wannabe” way. The old designs are truly full on ponies, gen 4 is a bit, like odd but unique and fitting for what the show was being so colorful, magical & weird, gen 5 looks so consumerist that they don’t even look like they have a soul anymore yk ?? Its like comparing the newest Vsynth Miku to the original Vocaloid Crypton Miku, Vsynth Miku just doesnt give off the same personality she looks so fake and bland compared to Vocaloid Miku, and i became a Vocaloid fan in the end of 2021 so her new design is more familiar to me. Gen 5’s comic art is more expressive and all but like gen 4’s comics are so much more lively in a way (as someone in the middle of reading volume 1 of the comics). The designs also stick better, maybe my nostalgia from MLP (along with Pokémon) being my entire being as a child drives me to feel far more inclined to gen 4 but the designs just feel somewhat alien like in gen 5??? It’s like a mixture of overly flashy and overly dull designs/palettes in one of the worst ways possible, the designs of the new mane 6 look like they tried to make something colorful and bright but they decided it would be too extreme and died it down ergo making the designs worse, like Izzy would look a bit better if they added some brighter blue to her hair and make her horn more sparkly, Zipp is nice she’s just missing, something, Sprout looks like a twink version of Macintosh tbh, but overall the 3D models looks nice just kinda bland, the movie seems to have expressed the designs better than the show. But the show still seems good, even with this goofy ahh long rant i still adored the gen 5 movie it definitely is a 9.5/10 movie to me it just felt like it was lacking so much,i’m pretty sure the show answers most the questions i had from the movie so it’ll probably still be good, gen 4 will still just be special to me though due to this nuancing ass nostalgia i get from it
