Today you were supposed to spend your day with your boyfriend but unfortunately, things happened and that was no longer an option. Sam was Captain America, he got busy and had to travel a lot. You were never the kind to be selfish to expect him not to save the world. Nevertheless, you still wished circumstances were somewhat were a bit different. It was your birthday after all.

He had to suddenly leave three days amid your birthday planning. Lunch with parents, a movie at the local cinema with friends, and then dinner back home for you two. He was talking about what roast you would prefer when his cell rang. He apologized and promised a future date. His job is filled with responsibilities, you could never complain.

Waking up you walk to your kitchen to start making breakfast when a knock was heard on the door. Who could it be? Putting on your robe, quickly you headed to the living room to answer the door.

To your surprise, it was the postman with a box for you. They ask you to sign the delivery papers and you gladly do so, thanking them and making sure to hand them a hefty tip. You close the door behind them after bidding them a good day and you head to the coffee table. Sitting crossed-legged on the couch you begin to unbox the package, inspecting it first.

To your astonishment, the sender was no one other than your wonderful boyfriend; Sam Wilson. He had written his name in calligraphy outside the box. How sickeningly sweet was he?

Inside you found several small boxes of candy hearts, your favorite little treats. Sam remembered when you had told him how you liked playing with them and forming cute messages.

Then you found a big box of heart-shaped chocolates. Filled with bourbon, his favorite. Chuckling you place the box along with the others on the table to search the rest of the containments. Momentarily you wonder how on earth he had time to put this together and solve whatever case he was working on.

What you found next was a big pink envelope covered with glitter and cute little heart stickers adorning it all over. Opening it you find a rose-scented letter inside. The aroma makes you laugh and shake your head. Exchanging letters were your favorite pastime as a child. Of course, he remembered.

The letter was short, but it unmistakably contained all of his love.

My most beautiful angel,

I never knew how amazing life could be until I saw your face. You light up my world, my heart leaps like a hummingbird in flight every time I see you. I've never felt like before, you're my greatest inspiration.

When I think about you, I feel a warmness filling me inside. Dare I say this feels like destiny. I am sorry I couldn't be there today, soon enough we will get to celebrate together, you and I.

I will take you dancing, hold you in my arms and stare at your beautiful eyes all night long. I promise you will have the greatest night in your life.

I wish you the happiest of birthdays. I hope we will get to spend each and every future one together from now on, I love you.
