365 DC Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
February 24th - The Elongated Man
Ralph Dibny was an amateur yet gifted chemist who was fascinated by contortionists. He discovered that many of the more successful contortionists all drank a special concoction containing the ‘jingold’ fruit that supposedly augmented the elasticity of their joints and limbs. Dibny obtained a sample of this jingold and used his chemistry skills to distill a super-refined version of the serum. After consuming this elixir Ralph found that he could stretch his limbs to super-human lengths and sizes. These stretching powers additionally offer heightened agility and durability; as well as a degree of shapeshifting. Although Ralph attributed these powers to the jingold potion, it was later intimated that the potion merely activated a preexisting metahuman ability. Whatever the case, Ralph chose to use his powers to become a costumed superhero and named himself ‘The Elongated Man.’ Along with stretching abilities, The Elongated Man also proved a very savvy investigator and detective. He assisted The Flash (Allen) on many cases and was ultimately asked to join The Justice League. The Elongated Man served on numerous iterations of the League, yet retired after the tragic murder of his beloved wife Sue. The hero featured in the Flash television series portrayed by actor Hartley Sawyer (although the character was written out of the show when the actor was revealed to be a total creep in real life). The Elongated Man first appeared in the pages of The Flash #112 (1960).
