Ronnie couldn’t help smiling when Harley chuckled at her now messy make up. God, she’d missed her little firecracker of a daughter. It was true, they’d both been through a lot, with and without one another, but the cosmos kept bringing them back together so that counted for somethin right? She’d always love her little girl, always welcome her. No matter what crazy thing she’d run off and do. She was her little Harleen after all.

“If your safety is in question just.. go. So long as you let me know your fine later, that’s all I need.” She trusted Harley to have her reasons for anything she did from now on. “Like I wouldn’t take care of him? He’s all o had left of you, and let me says he’s been a big pouty baby since you left!” Poor little Brucie. She hugged her girl back, taking a second to pet her hair. “One more shot and them we blow this joint. Deal? You need a bath you smell like ass. We’re you sleepin in a trash can??” She laughed. “I’m so glad your home. So, tell me what you’ve been up too? Did you slaughter the copy cat?”

“Maybe we should have a codeword....or something.” Harley shrugged. “Like uhhh....” She looked around, hunting for inspiration. When her gaze traveled upwards, she found just the thing, an ugly painting on the wall of a grey sky. “Stormcloud!” she was pleased with her decision. “The next time I’m in trouble, I’ll send ya a postcard with that word on it, or maybe a picture.”

“MaAa.” Harley whined, but playfully. “I will have ya know, that trash can was a 5 star establishment.”Feigning a tone of snobbery. “I can’t wait ta see my baby!” She hoped Bruce wouldn’t hate her for leaving. She’d gotten lucky with Ronnie, would she be that lucky a second time?

“I beat em’ into oblivion.” The blonde punched a fist into her other hand. “We won’t be hearin’ from any clowns anytime soon.” God she hoped that were true.

“Shh, don’t cry, baby. It’s alright. Your home now, I’m not gonna let anyone get you.” She wiped away Harley’s tears, not the least bit upset. They’d lost so much time already, she was just so glad to have her little girl back with her in one piece. “Oh No..” Ronnie’s whole body tensed at the mention of the Joker. She knew that man was nothing but trouble. Her disapearance was all making sense now. Ronnie took a big gulp of her wiskey, ordering another and a second shot for Harley. Both woman could use the booze to calm thier nerves. “Thank god it was hoax.” She took harley’s hands when she got all worked up. “Hey, look at me. I’m okay. You kept me safe, I’m not angry at you honey. I’d do the same thing for you in a heartbeat. Next time, send a note tied to a piegon or something though so I know your alive.” She teased, reaching up to dry her eyes. “You look like shit, as soon as we get home, im running you a bubble bath. Brucie has been so depressed without you. He’ll be so happy to see his mama’s home”

Harley was relieved, and stunned- but mostly relieved that her mother was so accepting of her. They had been through so much together, and apart. Maybe they’d always find their way back to each other. Harley wiped her tears to the best of her ability, though when she took her hand away to see the black mascara streaks on it she began laughing giddily. 

She welcomed the shot, throwing it back immediately. Harley began to feel the warmth spreading through her body, her muscles releasing their tension. “Thanks mom.” she grinned, her voice a little soft. “I promise, next time I’ll come to you first.” 

“Oh thank you for taking care of him!” Harley hugged her mom as tight as she could. “I can’t wait to see him. Let’s get outta this dump!” She joked, it being their favorite dive bar.

“Come on you.....” Harley rattled the vending machine as hard as she could. “YOU JUJUBE THIEF!” She screamed at the inanimate object at the top of her lungs, exasperated. Not willing to give up on her stuck candy, Harley glanced down at her brightly adorned bowling bag, complete with bowling ball inside. Had she just come from the bowling alley? Not exactly, but that’s a story for another time.

With little hesitation, the harlequin swung the bag with great force, smashing the glass straight through, the shards mostly falling to the inside of the machine. 

A smile spread wide across Harley’s mouth before she excitedly began snatching up as much candy as she could grab and shoving it inside the bowling bag. Noticing someone watching her she asked, “Oh, you want some?” Offering up a handful of candy. “Not the Jujubes though, thos’er mine!”
