“Seeing Suiand Han and Shoma Uno live during 4cc was a religious experience. Far above everyone else despite injury, you could feel their power in the arena and people held their breaths watching. It’s the kind of energy you can only truly appreciate in live theatre instead of film work. Shoma’s grim determination and Sui/Han’s emotion gripped is all and made us cry.“

sui han's bridge over troubled water (more teams skate to this song pls)
throw the whole thing in the trash / dislike it / neutral / like it / love it / i have decided to stan forever/invented pairs
Why, oh why, is most of their best work on shortened seasons?
I’m just going to list all of the things I adore about this free program, because there is not one thing I don’t adore:
At worlds he goes to the wrong end of the rink and it’s the most adorable thing
Despite the fact that they just open with crossovers, how they breathe in them, how they move, it makes them beautiful
QUAD TWIST MOTHERFUCKER
The EMOTION they (she especially) bring to this skate is unparalleled, you generally don’t see that type of commitment in pairs
Beautiful 3T2T, rip the 3S, but you forget about it as soon as they go into the death spiral thought
EVERY lift is on the lyric “like a bridge over troubled water” and I would like to once again shout out Lori Nichol, she’s the only bitch in his house I ever respected
This:

I love skaters that take. their. time. with movement, its so wonderful.
The throws, her landings, the transition in/out are *chefs kisses*
The different in their lifts from 2015-16 to 2016-17 is bonkers, he really took that time to train, get stronger. They are so seamless.
The best pairs lift there ever was, going into that lift from a spread eagle where SHE IS STANDING ON HIS SKATES, how she runs her hand down his arm to take his hand, its the little things
Tumblr media
The entire program build so beautifully, has breathing moments, they rise to meet the music then come back down like a leaf weaving in the wind or some such poetic nonsense
Hands down one of the best pairs programs to me, ever
They would have won the olympics with it and that’s the god’s honest truth
Post skate reaction always makes me emosh

The Bukin-Ponomarenko Connection Continues
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“It’s so funny!” Bukin added. “Now Carreira and Ponomareko are reaching [the senior] level, and it’s so funny to think that his father competed against mine, and now we are able to compete together.”
“It’s nice to foresee that the two sons will soon connect again – Andrei’s son and Sergei’s son fighting on the same ice,” Svinin said. “We like it. We’ll see how it goes in the upcoming seasons.”
“The two fathers have chosen a different life,” Svinin recalled. “One father [Bukin] remained in Russia, one [Ponomarenko] went to the United States. Sergei, Andrei and I were real friends. Except at competitions, where we fought hard. But besides that, we were friends in Moscow. At the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo, we even shared the same apartment, the three of us plus two other Russian skaters. It was a good time. Seeing the next generation is life. It’s good.”

I made a compilation of Stepanova/Bukin’s twizzles! Some things I want to point out:
-In the 2012-2013 season (they were just juniors then btw), even before they started doing the shoot the duck/sit twizzles, they already had very unique twizzles. For the grabbing the blade or boot of the free foot feature, they grabbed their blade with the free foot crossed in front of the skating leg.
-The 2014-2015 season was the year they started doing their trademark shoot the duck/sit twizzles.
-In the 2015-2016 season, they started doing very intricate entries into their shoot the duck/sit twizzles, which made them even more impressive.
You can see videos of each twizzle and some of my commentary on them in this thread: https://twitter.com/yang_bo_dudnik/status/1097660241179664384
Also I’ve decided the 2015-2016 FD twizzles are my absolute favorite of all their amazing twizzles. Sasha does a besti squat and Vanya does a hydroblade into their sit twizzles. What makes these my favorite though is the 3rd set of twizzles.  It’s so cool how on the RFI twizzle with 4 rotations, they change to coupee position in the last 2 rotations. It kind of resembles corkscrew twizzles. Also their arms and heads match the music so well.

Watching this live made me feel feelings that are indescribable by words...
I will never forget moments like this. Truly inspiring and a beautiful story, both on and off the ice

sui wenjing/han cong - pairs SP practice
four continents championships 2019

one of the greatest privileges i’ve ever had was to watch these two perform live in their first competition back from injury. sui/han are just sublime, in a class all their own - perfectly in sync and at ease with each other in whatever they do, and their programs are masterpieces in the making. i adore them with my whole heart, and i’m blessed they know how much i am rooting for them always.
