Neal took a breath. was he really ready to get into the details? Did he have a choice? “There’s a hell of a lot more to the story than you realize. But yeah, I’d be mad at me too.” His fingers brushed the back of his neck. “It was never my intention to set you up. I wanted Tallahassee, I wanted us. But things got complicated.”
Emma stopped walking and laughed, shaking her head as she turned to face him. “Complicated? Complicated?! How could this have gotten complicated? It’s either you loved me or you didn’t. There’s nothing complicated about that.” She shook her head in disgust but mainly at herself before walking again. “Why am I even having this conversation with you?”

Neal paused for a moment, both in speech and his footing. “Wait a second. You were in jail for eleven months. Something about this isn’t adding up.” He didn’t think it was possible, maybe he was overanalyzing the whole thing, yet he knew Emma. At least, he did. And her wording, something felt off. “I could be wrong about this, but I need to know something. Because I get why you’d lie. Is he our son?”
“It’s nice of you to realize I was in jail for eleven months and I never heard from you...” How did he know she was locked up for that long? He never bothered to reach out to her. “I don’t think I have to explain myself to someone who set me up 11 years ago.”

Neal nodded at her response, still taking in the information. He didn’t blame Emma for moving on, as he was currently engaged to Tamara. Just looking at her, however, reminded him of their time together. But its been ten years. Things change. Were their feelings included? Maybe. “Curious, I guess. Plus, it would help to know how old the kid is while looking for him. It sounds like the father is out of the picture. But that’s none of my business.”
Emma suddenly felt nervous but she did a great job hiding it. Anxiety crept in and as he spoke, she ended up zoning out and forgot to not reveal the true age of her son. “Yeah, well, his father is out of the picture. Henry’s almost eleven.” The savior’s eyes widened a little for she realized she slipped the age and needed to cover it up. “I-- I think he’s almost eleven. I’m not really sure.”

asksonofthedarkone:
Neal paused for a moment, taking in her clarification, though he figured as much. He wasn’t sure if Emma felt anything from their moment of contact, but just taking hold of her hand seemed to bring to light some remaining feelings, the impact hitting harder than he wanted to admit. “Yeah, well, if magic brought us here, that’s about the only explanation I need. But you have a son? The very least I can do is help you look for him before we figure out how to get back home.” It shouldn’t surprise him if she moved on, yet something didn’t settle right and honestly, he couldn’t help himself from asking the next questions. The words sort of just tumbled out. “So, how old is he?”
“Yeah, I do.” Emma didn’t feel comfortable making eye contact with the man she once loved, but she didn’t want to be obvious either in how much she loathed him. She looked behind her to make sure they weren’t in any danger before making eye contact back with him. “I... I don’t know. After I got out of jail I met someone but it didn’t last long. I left and put him him up for adoption... only just reunited with him. Why do you ask?”

asksonofthedarkone:
Neal wasn’t sure what happened. He was on his way back to his apartment when all the sudden purple smoke surrounded him. He opened his eyes to find trees instead of the familiar backdrop of New York. Magic. It had to be. Although the Enchanted Forest looked very different from the last time he was around, Neal very much knew that’s where he was. With probably no hope in getting back to Tamara anytime soon, he decided to venture further into the woods.
A familiar voice sounded like an echo. Ten years and yet, he’d know it anywhere. Neal started to run in direction he believed her to be, banging into someone after a quick turn was made. “Emma?” The question came, but there wasn’t a doubt in his mind. He stood up, also sent to the ground from their collision, offering his hand to help her up – unsure if she’d take it. “Yeah,” he breathed, getting a better look at the blonde “I don’t suppose you know how we got here? Oh, and who’s Henry?”
Emma was in so much shock to be standing in front of the man who broke her heart that she didn’t realize she had took his hand for support to stand up. The purple smoke only brought those who were from or had connections to this place from what she saw, but Emma couldn’t figure out why someone like Neal was in this place. “Some purple smoke brought everyone in Storybrooke here, but that doesn’t explain why it brought you here. Henry is-- he’s my son.” She didn’t have to tell him Henry was also his for all Neal knew was that she got out of prison and moved on with someone else.

“Calm down, Emma. It’s fine. I mean, you just saved your son with magic, learned that everything in his book is real only to find yourself in the world you were born in. It’s fine.” Emma kept talking to herself as she walked mindlessly through the forest. The smoke somehow separated Emma from her son and she didn’t know where to look. With her hand on her gun attached on her hip due to hearing strange sounds, she wasn’t paying attention and didn’t realize she wasn’t alone.

Emma stopped at nothing to save her son and on her quest to find out why he suddenly passed out, the truth Henry had been telling her all along got through. She believed and by saving Henry from his fate, Emma broke the very curse she refused to believe for months. Getting used to fairytale characters like her parents being real was one thing, but finding herself in the very land she was born in was another.
As the purple smoke faded and her eyes settled to the new land surrounding, She found herself alone in a land she had never been in before. “Oh, great..” She sighed and began screaming the name of her son in hopes to be reunited with him. She ran through the forest and it felt the forest went on for miles. "Henry! Henry! Where are--” As she ran through the forest shouting Henry’s name, she collided into a stranger and fell to the ground. “I’m sorry. Are you o-- N--Neal?”

do you think Hook is good looking? Is he your type? :)
Good looking? I mean, I guess... but he’s not my type. I’m not really into the type of men who like to hurt people to get what they want. He’s all yours if you don’t mind a pirate chained to a bed.

what do you think of Cora? Think she's worse than Regina?
Cora is... a piece of work. Regina has her own set of issues but I think a lot of that stems from how her mother treated her. When a parent treats their children in a way that’s not centered around love, often times the child grows up to be very similar. I’ve seen it in all the cases I’ve worked in Boston, so it makes sense that Cora and Regina have that going for them as well.
And that’s why I think Regina is more dangerous than Cora. She has a lot of anger towards everyone and I think a good junk of that comes from Cora. She can’t seem to control her anger and magic. That’s dangerous.

What was it like having the classic 'child caught parents in bed together' moment? Did you have to explain to Henry what was going on?
Probably the most terrifying thing of my life, honestly. I'm still wrapping my mind around the fact that Mary Margaret and David are my parents and we're the same age... so I doubt I'll ever explain all of that to Henry. That's not how I want to have such a conversation with my kid, thanks.

More serious? Now Emma was scared… he was going to leave her, right? That had to be it. All she knew was heartbreak and hoped he was different, so she prepared herself for the worst. However, his words were that of love and not abandonment, and Emma was speechless for a moment. She couldn’t imagine he actually felt the same way. “You— you love me?” She couldn’t help but smile as her cheeks turned a light shade of pink. “Neal, I— I love you, too.”

Emma couldn’t help but return the small smile. His smile always made her blush, but she was careful in not showing it. The question was a surprise to her and she remained quiet for a moment as she considered it. “I— I don’t know. I mean, I have thought about… it would be nice to settle down someday, put the whole Bonnie and Clyde act behind me. But our future?” What did he mean by asking her about their future? “That depends I guess on what you meant about saying our future.”
“As much fun as being Bonnie and Clyde is, I do think it’s time we talk about something more serious.” He could have been more direct about it, yet her smile caused him to hesitate. Not in a bad way, more like due to the way it made his heartbeat quicken. Neal cleared his throat some before continuing, aiming to stay on track. “By more serious I mean, you and me. I don’t know if this is the wrong thing to say but I have to tell you something.” He paused briefly, eyes darting down prior to finding hers again. “I’m very much in love with you, Emma Swan.”

It’s only a bit of harmless flirting, love. And what’s wrong with me informing you of your radiance? It’s the truth. You’re a good-looking lass.
I came up here to find the compass to get home and back to my son. I’m not here to listen to you flirt with me, alright? I have more important things to worry about. Maybe you’re trying to distract me with all your flirting comments, so... save it, alright? I’m not interested.

They had been alongside each other for months on end. Emma never imagined she would have a friend again after what happened with Lily, but Neal seemed to understand her more than Lily ever did. He encouraged her, supported her, made her feel like her feelings mattered. It wasn’t long before Emma found herself having feelings for him, but Emma would never dare tell him that. For Emma, with how she has been hurt over the years, Neal was the one who would have to make the move. Unless… Could she really say those words?
They had just made it back to their home after a heist. That is, if an abandoned house in a failed community was a home… and Emma looked over at her friend— at the boy she loved. “What’s wrong?” Was he looking at her? She didn’t know but they made eye contact regardless.

@dashing-pirate (a response from this post)
Are you sure about that, love? I, for one, certainly find you very radiant, even when you're scowling at me.
Flattery will not get you far with me, you know. Are you always this way with women? Making passes at them when they’re clearly not interested and have told you as much?

How did you manage to climb the beanstalk and not be completely terrified of falling off?
I mean, I was afraid that I’d slip and fall, but focusing on getting home and back to my son got me through it.

Hook is easy on the eyes, don't you think?
Are you serious? Maybe to some people he is but I’m not even thinking about that right now.

Well, maybe he is a little bit, but am I interested? Not a chance.
