#witness for the prosecution #i went to see this at shaw this weekend #i got tickets for my birthday #it was really enjoyable #and so weird #i had only read the short story #and the play famously ends differently #i'm going to go check out the film at some point #BUT they had such delightful set design #lighting #and costuming at the play #i mean #they lit the stage like a noir film #the set was grey #all the costumes were greyscale #EXCEPT for Romaine who showed up in bright living colour with a saxiphone behind her every time #it was so over the top #i loved it #my partner wants everyone to know #that the best part of the play #came 3 minutes in #when the first scene in the lawyer's office was lit as if through the slats of blinds #and one thicker beam of light #cut dramatically across the eyes of the queen #in a portrait on the wall #i literally heard him say #oh #it was great

#i have mixed feelings about this adaptation #but this is very cute #and all i have thought about for the past (very stressful month) #is emma #the novel #and the difficulties in adapting it #i read the book and watched (i think) every adaptation #very interesting to see them all lined up together #i may round it off by reading the book again #it's just so much her book #in a way i think it's hard for film adaptations to get across #yes i know there are more literary ways to describe this #but that is for another post
